Hey Readers!
http://www.tor.com/
A new free ebook every week. Looks like they are giving away various award winners. I've not received my signup email yet, but I think they've got PDF format and possibly a couple other formats.
Enjoy!
I've copied down the brownie recipe... "mix and bake" looks like it's easy enough for me to try out. I'll sub out the Wonderslim stuff for apple sauce tho.
Noticed on the McVeggie Burgers, if you don't have a nonstick pan you get to "lightly oil" the pan. Isn't this a McDougall desecration???! ;)
Happy Vegan Kitchen Things!
Heya Kyle!
I don't have a Sony, but if you're thinking about buying some kind of handheld reading device, here are some things to consider:
-- Do you want it backlit?
I prefer backlit because I can read in the dark! ha. I've heard the eInk is exactly like the printed pages, possibly easier on the eyes?
-- Screen size?
I don't think this is a big deal, but some people want as much room to read as a regular (dead tree) paperback.
-- Dedicated Reader?
I own a handheld, I can read my books, convert Gutenberg books, play games, keep databases, listen to MP3s, etc! Dedicated readers might come with proprietary ebook files... check this because you definitely want to be able to read the free books out there as well!
That's everything off the top of my head. Just don't buy Amazon's Kindle yet! (too new, too many kinks to work out, too expensive.)
happy reading!

Publishers Weekly: Fictionwise buys eReader from Motricity
To which I say "Yay" because I really like the eReader program (for reading on my handheld) and I'm sure Fictionwise will do good things with it. Fictionwise also says they are going to keep the two online stores separate because eReader has a strong brand loyality.
Happy Reading!
Well, the pact was there, but you're right Ting was not ready for it. On the other hand, he was very ill and life without Ally may have been horrible. "Mercy killing" rather than "murder"?

I've had my worm box since March 2007. Since I'm vegan, all my organic leftovers go into the bin (worms don't like animal products), and I am happy that I'm not filling up the landfill. You can read my worm reports at my website: Static8 tag: Vermicomposting
What are your "must reads" for vegans?
I highly recommend Gary Francione's Introduction to Animal Rights: Your Child or the Dog? I'm currently reading Rain Without Thunder: The Ideology of the Animal Rights Movement.
Vegan Freak: Being Vegan in a Non-Vegan World was pretty good, tho it's been a while since I've read it.
I've actually got a pretty long list tagged "Animals - Nonfiction" but a lot of it has welfare leanings. Any other recommendations?? TIA!
Happily Vegan,

Interview with Catherynne M. Valente:

Hey Hans,
I have read a few PDFs and a couple books using Project Gutenberg's bookmark system... but there are just too many distractions on the computer. ;)
I bought a Palm handheld in 2003 to read books on (and play the occasional game of sudoku!) and it is the best thing ever! I buy some books from FictionWise, but I mostly read Gutenberg books. I have a little defunct program that I use to make the books look decent on the Palm.
For text based books, I totally prefer to read them as ebooks. Unfortunately, not all new books are available in any kind of digital format... Disappointing! Then again, I do have hundreds of books from Gutenberg to read.
Happy Reading,
rift
