I have read all of Mercedes Lackey's books. The Last Herald-Mage trilogy is my favorite mini-series in the Valdemar series. The first book is awesome, the second book is okay, and the third book is awesome. I still cry every time I read the Last Herald-Mage books, which is saying a lot, because I'm a pretty cynical person and I've read these books 30 or 40 times by now.
The Diana Tregarde Series is good, and so is her modern Urban fantasy series which starts with Bedlam's Bard. It's based in the same 'Verse as the Tregarde books and the Chrome Circle books, but with new characters. Beldlam's Bard is actually my favorite book in that series, because of the interesting relationships between the characters and the depths of emotions that are portrayed.
Another series to consider is her Elemental Mages series, which is a Historical Modern fantasy series. Yes, I know that those two terms seem contradictory, but once you've read the books, you'll understand what I mean.
