Thanks for the spoiler warning, Stefani. I was tempted to read your comments but will wait till I've read the book. Soon, I hope!
I probably wouldn't let him in, at first. But then he'd tempt me with something like scotch on the rocks, and then I'd submit. That sly devil. ;)
Well, I think it's time for another 'to-read sooner short list' from my very long 'to-read some day', list. And I'll certainly include this one! Thanks, Myf.
Hey, I caught that one, too, Kat. It only confirmed that I want to read his book. Plus, I've always liked that fellow Canuck.
No, I haven't, Kath, but I'm looking forward to this novel. And then I'll read more of Maxwell, I'm guessing. What a great place this is for recommendations. Cheerios, pal!
Nah, I don't think this one will do it, Kat. It's quite light and silly and I don't recommend it unless you're a hockey fan à la Don Cherry.
Instead I'd recommend another humourous, Canadian novel that also has an old curmudgeon of a protagonist, that is, Mordecai Richler's Barney's Version. ... But, I just checked and you've read it, already. Maybe we'll just have to wait for another Nick Hornby dramady.
This collection sounds interesting, Kat. Too bad, though, it didn't provide the lift you were looking for. I think my next read will be Paul Quarrington's King Lear. That's the book that was selected on this year's, Canada Reads. And, for the first time, it's a humorous book that won the competition! I'll let you know if this one is fun and uplifting, and worth the read.
Oh yes, definitely a treasure. I just swung by a second-hand book store for a quick peek (which is never quick!) and picked up her Blind Assassin and Alias Grace. The 2 of hers from my 'to read' list. And several other books, of course!
I think I read her novel Surfacing in high school, but was too young to appreciate it. I read her short story compillation, Moral Disorder, and loved it. And I've been dying to read a good Atwood novel for a while, and this is the one for me, I think!
Me, too. I'm right behind you, Kath! Someone should open a room at Zoeotrope just for one act plays. But after I read these books!
The pleasure is mine, Carrie. I'm looking forward to savouring it, too. I'm thinking, this summer at the cottage would be perfect. Cheers, mate!
No, I haven't heard of Delany, Linda. Although the name does ring a bell? I've recently decided to add Sci-Fi into my reading rotation. I have a lot of catching up to do!
