50695 I actually haven't been able to get through one yet. I tried this and a couple others but just never got engaged by it. I don't really get the widespread appeal, but that's okay... I don't get American Idol either.

2666 I remember when I read it in high school, I laughed my ass off and loved it. I tried to re-read it actually a year ago and couldn't get through the first 100 pages. I wonder if it's dated?

You should actually drop that book immediately and read "I Am Charlotte Simmons" instead. It will take you back to college in an intense way.

666215 Are we having a conversation in Goodreads comments? Awesome.

I did miss the party...regretfully. I got caught up in preparations for a 2-month trip to Asia (leaving Wednesday) so you'll have to keep the girls on ice until I get back.

And give me any tips you've got on Thailand!

6870 I actually happened to really like this book, as I have everything of McEwan's that I've read. I did, however, come with no expectations. I think it's fascinating that it was based on real events, too.
