Oddly enough, I read this recently as well and enjoyed much of it. I lost interest about three graphic novels in, but I really dug the fact that the hero... wait for it.... likes comic books. How very meta.
Love love LOVE this book. I have a huge bookcrush on this thing. Seriously. I really hope you'll dig it.
I agree with the one star rating. A bit twee, wasn't it? There were parts of it that were good, and I really wanted to like it and all, but it never quite happened for me. I keep it on my bookshelf for street cred, though.
This is one of those books I've already read and just forgotten to add to the Goodreads pile. I often like to reread my books and I picked this one randomly off the shelf the other day and got sucked into it all over again.
If you dig it, seek out "Coming of Age in the Milky Way" by Tim Ferris - it's an extremely readable history of how humans defined the universe from Assyrian star-gazers up to the Theory of Relativity. Unfortunately, my library system does not own a copy. (Grumble.)
