HAHA! I loved Elsewhere! I think it definitely is for a younger audience, but I really liked it. I loved the idea of choosing a profession in the afterlife. And the viewers to earth were rather creative. The one thing that I found kind of hokey was the unaging and being dropped into the ocean to come back to earth and be born again. I had a hard time with that concept, but I did enjoy it. I listened to it, which may have influenced me somewhat. Typically if the narrator is good, I end up loving the book no matter what.
Ok, her version of heaven was annoying. I hated it. all the dogs running around. I know it was her version, but it didnt fit the rest of the book. Perhaps it was her voice that I found so annoying. And then at the end when she inhabits the other girls body and has sex but DOES NOT TELL WHERE HER BODY IS?!?!? Come on! I was so annoyed, here was her chance and she totally blew it. It would have taken seconds to say something. I didnt think it was well written and I guess I was expecting something great due to all the hype and it was a major letdown.
This is quite possibly the most bizaare book I've ever read. I LOVE Jack Gantos, but this one is just weird. It's about this girl who lives w/ these two older men who happen to be twins. They are like father figures, but it turns out one of them actually is her father...but only they know which one. The mother had sex with one of them, but she never knew who. The twins are very introverted and are into taxonomy. They stuff their own mother and she spends 1/2 the week with one twin in his room and 1/2 the week with the other twin. The craziest thing about the book is the girl wants to know who her dad is, but they wont tell her so she decides she has to sleep with one of them. BIZAARE!!!!!
I started Nineteen Minutes, but couldnt finish it in time. It was a good start. I have been worried about reading her other books b/c I fear I wont like them as much as My Sister's Keeper.
I LOVED My Sister's Keeper. I recommend it all the time. I listened to this on disc and there was a different actor for each of the characters. I would find myself driving around or sitting in the garage riveted to the story. When it came to the last chapter, I actually had to listen to it three times because I could not believe my ears!!! I LOVE this book. Definitely one of my top ten reads. Perhaps I love this b/c Im a little melodramatic? hmmmm
