Why did you dislike shelfari? It is on my list of web sites to play with, if you could give me some feedback, I can skip looking at it.
I am working on a panel for a science fiction convention, where I am comparing Gr, Lt and every other book organization software I can find (including ones for palm and access) I would love to hear more about what other book catalog programs or method people have used.
Otis, you might be sorry you said that. I am going crazy trying to organize my book collection. 1000+ mostly hard cover.I also have some authors that I collect each new edition, or multiple editions of. Say like the first printing of LTR (white sleeve) and the second printing (red sleeve).
I was also wondering what the standard is for the word 'the' Would the above book be listed as Lord of the Rings, The or The Lord of the Rings?
I have other questions for you about this program, can I drop you an email with them?
I have been doing some research into the ISBN system. While larger publishers started using the system in the early 70's it was not standard through the publishing industry until 1988. So while a big publisher, would have ISBN, smaller publishers, such as SF imprint Tor did not start using ISBN until 1988.
We also have to talk about what we are going to do to update the books from the old ten digit number to the new 13 digit number.
I did find a nice PDF to explain the changes. It was written for the organization by the 'for dummies' company.

Is there a set of standards for entering authors names. I always write it as it is done in catalogs and in the Dewey system.Last name, then first name. I only use full names. So I would write the above author as Clowes, Daniel.
Not Daniel Clowes.
Can we as librarians create a set of standards?
Here is a link the 07 World Fantasy Award Nominees. So we can add some new recommendations to the list.http://www.worldfantasy.org/awards/
I would recommend anything by Esther Friesner, Ursula K. LeGuin, Neil Gaiman, Diane Duane, Anne McCaffrey, and Jane Yolen, George R.R. MartinI would wait a bit on Lord of the Rings, and the rest of the epic.
