yes! they're for my Structure of Fiction course taught by Craig Nova. I'm guessing my increased turnover of books gave it away as classwork? :)
Dillard is inspired. I have underlined and highlighted all over this book. Read if you love nature. Read if you haven't been around nature in a while. Read if you just want to slow down, and give life a serious look again. I only wish I had taken this book on a weekend trip camping or something instead of spreading it out over several months at my desk! For such a thin book, I found myself rereading parts of it over and over, and it was a bad idea to throw it into an environment where interruptions are plenty.
I haven't read it - haven't stepped anywhere near it - but I watched part of the Oprah episode where she was on talking about the book and wasn't really blown away with her story or "revelations." I changed channels.
on a side note - I like Oprah sometimes, but I just can't handle her "spiritual" episodes.
I may do the same...eventually. The movie looks like it will be good. I have a friend, who usually has good (more literary) book suggestions, who read this series and liked it. She said the same thing, mainly that it's not great writing but fun fantasy. However, if I recall correctly, she said the second book is the one that got her hooked.
hehe well helloooo there!
this is my first time, because I am always behind the trends. and because I named my new kitten Hermione, so it's only appropriate. Plus, it means I can borrow the books from my stepmom instead of buying them!
and I am loving it.
