1 Ever since the mark all read option was introduced, I've exclusively used the unread link to read messages in the feedback group and have always clicked "mark all read" when I've finished reading the messages in the topics that sounded interesting. I usually have no more than 8 threads with unread messages waiting for me each time I check. For a day or two, when I would click on unread messages in the feedback group, there might be one or two that would show up without a red "# new" indicator. If I clicked on the threads anyway, there was typically something new.

This morning, when I clicked on unread messages, I was presented with 5 pages of unread threads, the vast majority of which all indicated the exact same time since last updated. When I started reading these threads, I discovered that many have messages going back several months that I had not yet read and most if not all had not been updated in the past several days. Some haven't been updated in years.

Any ideas what happened to suddenly make all these threads appear as unread and, more importantly, why the ones that had been updated didn't show up on the unread page previously and why some threads are listed on the unread page but don't indicate a number of new messages?

169762 I liked it. It wasn't the best thing ever, but it was good. If you are going to try it again, you've got to commit to the sequel. The two books are really just one long book rather than a book and a sequel.

1 In the title box that appears when I hove over a name or avatar, I see Name(ScreenName)|# Comments

In the information bar at the very bottom of the browser window, when I hover over a name or avatar, I see the link destination. The avatar links to a user's profile and the name links to their comments. In both cases, the url contains the ID#

1 I've got mine back. Thanks.

1 I've been getting the same error all day. There might be a problem with one of the GR servers and it happens to be the one we're on or some such. We might have to have to wait for someone official to notice and fix this. Since it is a Friday, it would be good if it is noticed today and not left all weekend. I'll go ahead and send a message through contact us in hopes of getting speedier results.

1 I'm not fan of the badges idea. I think it would be clutter that would not fit with the Goodreads layout. The current design is rather image light, relying on text for almost everything. Suddenly throwing badges on top of the text would make them seem out of place, drawing attention to them and giving them an importance I don't think they warrant. I also agree with others who have pointed out that the information mentioned as being made into badges is pretty much all currently available without imagery and the problems with introducing a competition model.

I never started following Neil Gaiman's blog so the only link I see is a button that says "follow this author." Unfortunately, his blog posts still show up on my updates feed.

1 I can see that this is a feature that many people will love. I, however, would like the option to turn it off. I use an RSS reader to follow blogs that interest me. Having all Neil Gaiman's blog posts that I've already read pop up in the middle of book updates is just getting in my way and making it difficult for me to find the information I actually want from GoodReads.

1 I am aware Gaiman is a GoodReads author. Thus the reason I said I didn't know if he had set it up that way himself or if someone else had done so. It could go either way in his specific case, but clearly GR is now generically offering the opportunity for the importing of Blog posts of nonGR authors.

I haven't fanned any authors so I've no idea what the rules are regarding updates there.

1 Neil Gaiman's regular blog posts have suddenly started showing up on my GoodReads update feed. Whether he decided to import them or someone else set it up, I don't know.

Additionally, I've noticed that most (all?) authors' pages now have a section that says:

"does this author have a blog?

As a librarian, you can create a blog for this author even if they're not on Goodreads by adding the feed URL (Atom or RSS) of a blog they keep elsewhere. This will make summaries of their blog posts available here.

add an external blog for this author"

with the last line being a link.

1 No, Tianna didn't miss the end quotations. "Close the quotations" covers that.

1 It doesn't work for me. I click the link, a pop up asks if I'm sure, I click OK, and then nothing. I think the page reloads, but everything is still listed as unread. It stays that way when I manually reload the unread page, go back to the main group page, or do anything, really.

1 I'd love for Felicity's #2 idea to become reality in addition to being able to find books I've listed as recommended to me by someone.

"Marley was dead, to begin with."
Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Though after reading the opening line here, I feel compelled to read Scaramouche so perhaps I should have voted for that.

1 Is there a quick and easy way to find books that I've listed as recommended to me (either generically or only those recommended by a specific person)?

1 It looks to me like the style sheet isn't loading. Hopefully someone official will be one to fix it soon!
