Joje I had a similar reaction to his book on English. This one is still funny, but one does have to slog through with him at times to get to the next one. That some repeats, though, is more that he's travelling from similar places to new, similar ones, most of the time, with a few variations (like in Savannah), but no great depths anywhere, except maybe Des Moines. But the funny bits are a scream.
The lack of depth in general is masked by humor, and yet at times the humor contains the depth. My favorite of all times is his take on a cricket match when driving in big deserted Australia.
