Of course you're right. (I hope I didn't accidentally imply that in my review.) But it's not clear to me that Gary Shteyngart agrees with you.

Leslie Hi, "...his obese Russian oligarch father once killed an Oklahoma businessman. " Obese, oligarch, and killer have a certain equivalence in this sentence. I think I'm supersensitive, because fat people are in a special class--it's okay to make fun of them, and that seems really cruel. To quote Cyril Connolley: "Inside every fat man, there is a thin man struggling to get out." I agree with you that Shteyngart certainly poked fun at Misha's obsession, but there is also a certain minimal empathy.
