Jacqueline Quackenbush This pretty much sums up how I felt. The first bit with her killing the vampire made me think this could possibly be a new favorite, but then in pops Lord Maccon and suddenly I begin to realize what I thought was a paranormal/steampunk novel with a unique and strong heroine, was little more than a Harlequin romance with a snazzy cover. Was very disappointed.

Michael I've heard the next few books in the series improve a bit but I'm not sure I am brave enough to try them.

Miriam Carriger says that one of her inspirations for the story was the idea of what if you set an urban fantasy during Victorian times.

"What if"? That's practically it's own genre.

Wercia Same here. I must agree with Michael. It was a waste of time to me.
