Laura I'm so sorry this one didn't work for you! I know you were looking forward to it. But thanks for this review! I may have mentioned I read excerpts from three of these stories on each of the author's websites, and they didn't click for me, so I marked this one off my TBR list. The only story I didn't have a link to was Vicki Pettersson's. That would have been the one I would most like to read, because I am about to start her "Zodiac" series after I finish the "Weather Warden" series by Rachel Caine.

I had also had heard from a friend of mine who manages a chain bookstore that readers of this anthology were not crazy about it. But that never sways me because I have strange taste in urban fantasy, and often like what others don't. However, looks like this is an urban fantasy anthology I should pass on. Thanks again for such a great review! Realy helped me make up my mind.

Schnaucl I think it's worth checking out from the library just to read Pettersson's story. I'd do it after you read the first two Zodiac novels though.

Laura Thanks! Good to know I should read the novels first. You know how I like to read things in order when I can. :)

Schnaucl The short story actually takes place before the novels, but I think you get more out of it if you've read the novels first.

Laura I forgot Lynsay Sands has a story in this one. I have just put her "Argeneau Vampire Series" on my TBR list. Have you read that one yet?

Schnaucl I haven't read that one, but I really wasn't impressed with this story or the one in Dates from Hell.

Laura I read some of it online and thought...nah. So I passed on the anthology. But since then her vamp series has been recommended to me, and when I saw this review again I realized she was in this book. So I thought I would ask, since you have read so much in this genre.

As I read more and more series in the paranormal romance genre I am seeing there are two kinds of writers working within it. One is the trad romance writer, whose paranormal novels are just old fashioned romance novels with a few vamps and supes thrown in.

The other is an entirely new breed. The writing is excellent and not cliched, the plots are strong, and lots of sizzling sex is just icing on the cake. These are the ones I enjoy, since I am not a trad romance novel fan.

I have never read one of Lynsay Sands' vamp series novels, but her story didn't click for me, so maybe she writes in a trad style. Who knows? I'll let you know when I try out her series.
