I like your distinction of compelling but not convincing. I've read a couple defenses of meat-eating (pollan, kingsolver) that I would classify in the same way.

It was strange for me too, a recent convert to vegetarianism. I remembered how I used to like meat, but also not convinced to eat it again. Overall, I think this is a good book to read to find acceptance of different diets without having to partake. People should be more intimate with their food sources. It's about to become part of them, after all. I'm trying not to be too judgemental of other dietary choices.

I've been a vegetarian for 22 years. While I was reading this book, I (briefly) considered eating meat, but thought better of it. I will leave the butchering and eating to Novella, but I thank her for doing it with love, kindness and gratitude. And I thank you for writing a great review.
