Did you read Three Men in a Boat first? I have both of them, but am delaying To Say Nothing of the Dog until after I can manage to complete Jerome K. Jerome.

No, I didn't even know of the relationship until I was into the book, and I'm pretty sure both from my reading and from other reviews and checking Wikipedia that
To Stay Mum Regarding the Canine
doesn't really depend on
Which is good, because I'm kinda burnt out on silliness and don't really have any other reason to read JKJ other than having read this one.
But I suspect if you do read JKJ first it might lend a bit more clever subtext to
To Shut Up About the Arfling
. And additional cleverness might hide the overabundance of silliness, so it might help.
