This is one of my all-time favorite books. I once went out with a guy I really didn't even like, simply because he said "Yes, Buttercup" when I told him no the first time.

The movie is my all-time favorite. It even surpasses "
Gone With the Wind
". I've probably seen it a gazillion times. However, I've never read the book.

I saw the movie first and loved it but when I read the book last year was strangely disappointed. I think I'm in the minority though.

I do have to say that this book has the best map I have ever seen in a fantasy novel.

The book is good, but in my opinion the author intrudes too much with his "cleverness".

That's a valid point about the intrusions, but remember, back when the book first came out, which is when I read it, it was much more of a novelty than such things are today. It was fresh and invigorating for those of us muddling through Nixon and the Vietnam war. I was still young I read it that first summer (between high school and college) and it was a hit with my crowd.
