message 1: by Clarence (new)

Clarence Cryptonomicon being one of my favorite novels ever, and definitely my favorite of Stephenson's (so far), I'm not looking for a repeat. I find little similarity from one of his novels to the next anyway; EXCEPT for the reason that I continue to read them: he's a great writer. I get great pleasure from reading his writing, and that is generally true regardless of the subject matter. (One of the things I'll always remember about Cryptonomicon is lapping up the three pages that describe a man eating breakfast cereal. That's great writing!)

So far (page 250), I wouldn't call it science fiction at all, even though at this point it's clear that a spaceship will be in the offing, possibly with aliens. And I don't care. I'm having a great time reading it!
