Dorothy Just not Harry Dresden, is it Mike? :)

Mike (the Paladin) I think books that are heavy on romance just get thumbs down from me... Oh well.

I mean I also liked Monster Hunter International! :)

Shanshad Whelan Sorry you didn't like, but I totally can see your issues. For me I picked up the second book in Monster Hunter series and put it down again. Too . . . "something" for me. I like Butcher though. You might want to try the Twenty Palaces series by Harry Connolly . There are three out so far and they seriously are not romance driven.

I know women are supposed to like romance but I don't find them romantic just, I guess as you say, thumbs down.
I've read all the 'Kate Daniels' books and let me say they are better than some others. I also read Patricia Briggs series, Mercy Thompson. To me they are so similar I forget which one is in love with the Lion and which loves the Wolf. I just skip over the icky parts like a little kid.
I have read MHI 1 and liked it. If the others are as good, I'll have to read them too.
I am so eager for 'Cold Days'.

LazerWraith I actually think Kate Daniels is one of the best female urban fantasy series I have read. That is not saying too much, since most UF from a female protagonist is terrible. :P

I get so tired of the lovesick female pretending to be a detective while also pretending to not be in love. And then ignorantly rushing into something and needing to get saved (most likely by the male).

MrsJoseph I loved this book but I can understand your concerns. I did feel that the whole situation with Raphael was...over the top a little. But Andrea is no Kate...

message 7: by Dorothy (new)

Dorothy I haven't read the new book yet, so not much to add. I will most likely get around to it one day. I have several series to keep up with. I do agree "Andrea is no Kate". I like the way Kate loves so completely and cares so much for the little girl. I think her story, now that she is growing up, would be interesting. And the young man (wolf?) that got his face messed up, could be interesting.

Mike (the Paladin) I tried to sidestep any spoilers but (view spoiler) But then it went heavily into the love story. Like I said, I'm just not her target audience.

Shanshad, I've looked at the Twenty Palaces books and plan to get to them, but the library here doesn't have them (for some reason) which means I need probably to buy them. Hopefully I'll get there.

Shanshad, I've looked at the Twenty Palaces boo..."

NO interlibrary loan system?

Mike (the Paladin) Was that on the Twenty Palaces books MrsJ? I think I filed and the answer came back that they couldn't get them. I've bought them since then and finished the first volume. I have the others on my shelf "to get to"...LOL.

Doc 'Tis refreshing, Mike, to see a reviewer admit that it's not their kind of book, rather than merely smite the thing hip and thigh.
There are a number of books and entire genres I do not and should not read or review (including romances) because they just don't speak to me.

Mike (the Paladin) I'm a little more into the audio. When i read the print book the "angst" and "heartbreak" drove me away. With this I just sort of let my mind wander till we get back to the story. I could never follow Ms. Andrews' other series either as the love story seemed to always swallow the plot. BUT, I'm a gun fan so if I can just stay with the story maybe i can survive the "romance". The romance in this one is a little odd, but I just can't take the (view spoiler)
