message 1: by Eva Rose (new)

Eva Rose I always get scared when classics gets re-made and zombies get thrown into the mix. D:

message 2: by Sarah ❤ (new)

Sarah ❤ ill take your word for it kat, and won't buy it! thanks for the heads up!

message 3: by Steph (new)

Steph Oh, this looked like it could have been cool. I guess I won't be buying it.

message 4: by Rose (new)

Rose I was really hoping this would be a version of American McGee's Alice as well. :( That's disappointing to hear.

message 5: by Jolene (new)

Jolene Thanks for the great review, Kat! I'm so depressed now. I *really* wanted story A :(

message 6: by Travelling Sunny (last edited Sep 04, 2012 12:19PM) (new)

Travelling Sunny Since you were expecting A, I thought I'd share this book - which I stumbled across when SEARCHING AMAZON for Gena Showalter's book...

http://www.amazon.com/Alice-Zombielan...

God knows I was expecting A...

♆ BookAddict ✒ La Crimson Femme Well crap. I was looking forward to it. I wanted option A. I'm backing the hell off now.

message 8: by Despair (new)

Despair Speaking Seriously?! I was looking forward to that... I love Alice-related books so... *cries in a corner*

message 9: by kari (new)

kari Thanks for the review and saving me from starting another disappointing series.

Kagama-the Literaturevixen I thought A.Well this is disappointing :(

message 11: by Despair (new)

Despair Speaking Um... I haven't read this yet, but I think a book that would be similar to A would be Alice in Deadland. There's a lot of mixed reviews about it but I managed to glean so far that it is very similar to A. Care to check it out?

message 12: by Leigh (new)

Leigh It broke my heart when I found out the book wasn't like option 'A' 3 :((( I totally thought that it was like Alice in Wonderland but with zombies. Thanks for the review!

message 13: by Penny (new)

Penny I wish I would have checked out the reviews on this book before purchasing it. Turns out I thought the exact same thing you did (American McGee's Alice in Wonderland). I think I just read the title 'Alice in Zombieland' and my eyes glazed over in excitement. I mean, HOW COULD SOMEONE SCREW UP A STORYLINE AS PROMISING AS ALICE BELL GOING TOE TO TOE WITH ZOMBIES?!?!

And as for the supposed zombies, WHERE ARE THEY? I'm almost halfway through reading this book and no friggin' zombies. At least, not really. The zombies in this book are so unzombie-like they don't deserve to be called zombies.

I hate this book.

message 14: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Had I purchased this book, Penny, I would have been extremely angry and would have probably asked for my money back. I felt so cheated. And I completely agree with you.

message 15: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Hipple I'm gonna go ahead and remove this from my Amazon list. Thanks.

message 16: by Katherine (new)

Katherine i am soooo glad i wasn't the only one who had the exact same opinon of this book as you did Kat. I couldn't even stomach finishing this book.

Maddi at megamad4books That's such a disappointment! I really hoped this book would be option A :( so glad I checked out the reviews first!

message 18: by Sandra (new)

Sandra So few pnr/uf writers for adults seem to get it right in the YA field. Who wants a 16 yr old alpha male with instalove???? Certainly not me!

Thanks Kat for a wonderful review as always.

message 19: by Kadbury (new)

Kadbury I actually enjoyed this but It was not what I was expecting AT ALL either... the title and synopsis is misleading (that's actually an understatement)
1. The only connection between this Alice and Alice in Wonderland Alice is the name
2. There are no zombies... There are some new type of creatures which the author for some reason has called zombies.
3. She's not in a different world like Zombieland or anything...

message 20: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Most of the Gina Showalter I've read has received this type of response from me.

message 21: by Swan (new)

Swan Good to know, from the synopsis, I thought it was more of an option A plot. That's the plot I was more interested in reading, so thanks for the review!

message 22: by Kimchi (new)

Kimchi I'm on page 30 and I am struggling to finish. I too, also thought A.
I thought the book would contain the plot of Alice in wonderland with a twist of zombies in it. Or like a survival like game thing....
I don't know whether to continue reading or just back out. And yeah, i agree with you on all. Especially the last bit. I would love to see that in the book than the original.

Besides the story itself, I love the cover and the blurb. It's a bit misleading though. Haha
Thanks for the review. Nicely done.

message 23: by Butterfly_Kisses (new)

Butterfly_Kisses A really great retelling of Alice in Wonderland is "Splintered" by A.G. Howard. It's so very dark and twisted- I loved it!

message 24: by Swan (new)

Swan That sounds great! Thanks Kathryn21. It's on my "to read" list now!

message 25: by Butterfly_Kisses (new)

Butterfly_Kisses I'm glad you're planning on reading it! You're welcome!

message 26: by Carolina (new)

Carolina I founded it kind of vague. She was such a Mary Sue, and the story had no coherence. She lost her hole family and she was just like: "Oh, God. Look at Cole, he's so hot." I agree with you in every single thing you said; this was no what I expected.

message 27: by Cherrie (last edited Nov 23, 2013 06:50PM) (new)

Cherrie When my friend first introduced it to me I instantly thought of Alice Madness Returns(I've never played it but I LOVE it <3), and when she asked whether I wanted to borrow it I was like "YES PLEASE I SO WANT TO READ IT!!"
...I can't be more regretful.*facepalm*
Whoever designed this misleading cover & subheading, I hate you. I HATE YOU. ;A;
I guess it's a sign for me to play AMR....

message 28: by Ethan (new)

Ethan Moos Why could't have been option A?

message 29: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy I dunno.

message 30: by Ethan (new)

Ethan Moos The world isn't fair, I guess. :(

Michelle (Pink Polka Dot Books) Super secret zombies and weird make out fantasies at first sight... Ugh I want option A!!! I had no idea this was set in high school! I thought it was gonna be teenagers who were living in a wonderland-like zombie world. But I got real world with super secret ghost zombies and high school drama. Yawn!!!

message 32: by Katy (new)

Katy I too thought it would more be like option A, but I wound up enjoying this book. It was hilarious and I really, really liked Alice. She was a strong, three-dimensional character, who I would love to be friends with and she did actually have feelings for Cole, who I also liked. He honestly cared for Alice and wasn't just an 'alpha-male'. Yes he was strong and tough, but he was a zombie hunter. He had to be strong and he has watched family and friends die horrible, bloody, painful deaths. Wouldn't you start to build up walls? Another thing, what else do you call a living corpse other than 'zombie'? Please tell me.I'm simply 'dying' to know. The zombies in this book are rotting corpses come back to life to feed on human flesh and turn more humans into zombies. The plot was solid other than being a little confused about the zombies, but there are more books to come, so I assume they will be explained in more detail in books to come. All of the characters were likeable and by the end of the book, I felt attached to them and their crazy quirks. Alice wasn't just a plain Jane, cookie-cutter heroine. I like how the author didn't spend an entire book leading up to Alice learning about zombies, and just jumped into the action halfway through the book. It felt like I was reading two separate books. Overall, I honestly loved this book and can't wait to get my hands on the second book.

message 33: by Katy (new)

Katy If anyone disagrees, with what I'm saying, feel free to message me.

message 34: by Say (new)

Say I thought it would be American McGee's Alice in book form.... I am so annoyed right now....

message 35: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy I'm so sorry, Katy. I'm so sorry your life has been reduced to this. Get well and take care of yourself, okay?

message 36: by Scott (new)

Scott Rhee It's a shame, because it's a great title. Wasted, apparently. Thanks for the warning, Kat. Hopefully somebody will someday write book A...

message 37: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Blue I personally loved it. And the fact that the "zombies" arent ur typical zombies is awesome for me because I got sick of reading about the whole im gonna eat your brains n im gonna kill u.
Yes your opinion matters but mine does to so please don't attack me like u did Katy

message 38: by Varia (new)

Varia I THOUGHT A THEN TRIED READING THE BOOK AND REGRETTED THE PURCHASE CUZ IT WAS JUST A TERRIBLE BOOK I COULDNT EVEN FINISH PAST THE FIRST FEW CHAPTERS!

message 39: by Winnie (new)

Winnie Chen I love love love this book and I thought it was very interesting I thought B of course I didn't know what to expect of the book but it's actually awesome and my number one favorite !!! Just on glance at the back cover and I was so interested in it sorry if it was misleading but it was for me but then I loved it cause it was soo interesting

message 40: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Full stops. They're your friend.

message 41: by Rachel (new)

Rachel It's interesting to me that people seem to write their own reviews in the comments of your reviews.... odd really.

message 42: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Maybe I inspire people?

message 43: by Thebookwench (new)

Thebookwench I was umming and ahhing over this one. Every single one of Gena Showalter's books that I have read in the past has disappointed me, in one way or another, despite how many people I have seen recommending her books. But I was drawn in by the pwetty cover and the same part of the plot that you were, with similar expectations. However, given your review, I might give it a pass...

message 44: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Quah I actually don't mind both option A) and B) Which is why I gave the book a go :> Though, I totally 'feel' you..

message 45: by Aisha (new)

Aisha Jab u people really do need to read this book! just because one person didnt like it doesnt mean that all of u will hate it! I, for one, absolutely LOVED this book.
