Kandice I so, so, so wish you were not on a new book ban!!!! Great review, I just wish you could read State of Fear next. It was his most cntroversial book, and I think it might be his best. It's all about Global Warming, and I never thought of Malcolm being the precursor, but I think you're right.

Becky Thanks Kandice! I'm glad you liked my review. :)

Tressa Great review, Becky! I enjoy reading all your reviews. Glad you're a GR friend so I don't miss anything you write.

I couldn't get into The Andromeda Strain either. Thought it was just me. I read Jurassic Park when it first came out, but the movie erased the book from my brain. I might have to revisit.

Your views on global warming are similar to mine. No one wants to walk around with a hospital mask on like they do in polluted China, but thinking mere mortals can control the cycles of the sun? It's laughable. Crichton was a smart man and he will be missed.

Kandice So, Tressa, did you read State of Fear?

Tressa No, is it good? I read many articles about Crichton discussing this topic around the time his book came out.

Cameron I enjoyed this book as well, but it always bothered me that Crichton invariably chose a single character in his books to be his own personal mouthpiece. There's always one guy (Malcom in this book) who's always right, tries to get those obstinate scientists to listen to him, tries to warn them, and then gets a giant "I told you so" in the end. Of course, I've only read Jurassic Park, Congo, and Andromeda Strain, so maybe I shouldn't say *all* his books are like that - just enough to prevent me from reading any more. The soapboxing just turned me off.

Julie S. Yes, this is a case of the Book Better than Movie. I agree totally with that.

Erik Still agree about the global warming thing?

Yup. Earth will still be here even if we make it like an oven. Humanity will probably all die. Animals will probably all die. What doesn't die will adapt. But the planet itself will still be here until the sun dies or Darth Vader blows us up or something.
