Johnny Great review! The world of YA lit needs a few more shark punching, egg-eating authors like Rossi!

message 2: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Thanks John! A recent tweet from Rossi confirms she can Falcon Punch. Be afraid all ye nonfollowers of the Rossi.

message 3: by Kate (new)

Kate Copeseeley Okay, am I missing something? What in the hell is a Falcon Punch??? *googling*

message 4: by Kate (new)

Kate Copeseeley Nevermind. Freakin' internet memes. Yeesh.

message 5: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy You know, Rossi could always teach you to falcon punch if you wanted to know.

message 6: by Kate (new)

Kate Copeseeley If it could make me a better writer, I'd try it! Although, given my tendency toward clumsiness, I think I'd be more likely to punch myself. :)

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Okey, with that review, I'm so going to read this. And author with guts? for YA? count me in

message 8: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Hey Taly, I think this book was very bold and achieved something that I think a lot of other YA doesn't and that was a truly romantic atmosphere. I finished it with a big, satisphied sigh. I think you'll like it.

message 9: by Tatiana (new)

Tatiana Just wanted to say that I agree that this book benefited from less-is-more approach to world-building. It is tricky to decide how much of explaining is enough. I am leaning towards writing only what is absolutely necessary. Some authors write themselves into a corner by over-explaining without thinking things through properly. Wither immediately comes to mind.

message 10: by Trish3 (new)

Trish3 I love your review! You're right on!
I've decided to go deep into this falcon punch thing!!!

message 11: by R.K. (new)

R.K. I almost never comment on GR anywhere at all, ever, but this is the single best review I have ever read and I lol'd quite mightily.

So, thank you for that.

message 12: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Thanks Rick! It was merely inspired by the badassery that is Rossi.

message 13: by Flamo (new)

Flamo Sacoalto Badassery is good!

message 14: by Arianna (new)

Arianna So it isn't just me getting confused about the century old vampire falling in love with a teen concept. Thank God.

message 15: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Definitely not just you!

message 16: by Tasha (new)

Tasha B Loved your review and loved the book! Left me with a good buzz at the end. To be honest I am just grateful that two main characters got to have sex with each other!

message 17: by Ayesha (new)

Ayesha I wasn't planning to read the book... then I read this review.

message 18: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Ayesha, I think you've made a very wise decision.

message 19: by Ellie (new)

Ellie How'd you come up with "raw falcon eggs?" Are they in the book, or something?

message 20: by Eva Rose (new)

Eva Rose I am in the middle of this book and its a relief to hear I am not supposed to yet know just what the fuck the Aether is, I can now focused on the characters better. XDD

message 21: by Didi (new)

Didi Kat, your imagination never ceases to amaze me! The lines you come up with, the backstory you create for some of your reviews are nothing less than ass-kicking hilarious! Maybe you should collect all your gems and create a book of Katerisms :)

message 22: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Hmmm, my lovely friend Manny actually published a book of his reviews. But, unlike him, I am exceptionally lazy and cheap! But I will continue to give them away for free here on Goodreads!

Please do, but I swear I think I peed myself laughing for this review! Hazards of the job :) Next time I'll keep a pack of depends near by :0

message 24: by WitchyKilljoy (new)

WitchyKilljoy Excellent review. I did NOT care for Aether explanation either. Aria and Perry are too awesome to ignore. Probably my favorite "couple" from these YA books. So realistic.

message 25: by Claire (new)

Claire Wow. Are all of your reviews this awesome? I kind of appreciated that she didn't explain the Aether. I also agree, Crossing mist indeed be a badass!

message 26: by Clare (new)

Clare dooley So Kat-now that we're dancing I'm going to grab my falcon punching hand & knock out anyone who looks at us sideways... What? I take my dancing seriously... Like really seriously !its almost dance card going steady ( for the dance) see my dance card is also quite full but, for this dance, I want the focus on my moved! Oh yeah... The book ruled.

message 27: by Elaine (new)

Elaine A+ review, you have outdone yourself Kat.

Two thumbs up.
/hands you a drink

message 34: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy I take your drink, and cheer to your good health!

Novels On The Run LOL!! You always make me laugh out loud !!! I am writing my review as we speak...or I speak...you listen/read and yes The Aether....but eat a falcon egg and who cares where it came from...right!

message 36: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Best. Review. Ever. :)

message 37: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca You may have just won the best review ever.

message 38: by Mike (new)

Mike Ok, Ms Kennedy... I've never read one of your reviews until this...
And I am pretty sure I'll be a regular reader. You rock!

message 39: by Jason (new)

Jason For the most part I think you're spot on, but I'd consider satire the exception, though.

message 40: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Mike, thanks! Glad you enjoyed.

Jason, thanks! ...I think.

message 41: by Jason (new)

Jason Sorry, I should've been more specific. I was referring to what you wrote at the beginning, about liking the MC making or breaking the book. I mean, I think that the point of most satire is to expose the ludicrousness of the characters being portrayed, so we're not being asked to like them. The Great Gatsby, Gone with the Wind, and some contemp. satire (Where'd you go, Bernadette?) are among my favorites, but I wouldn't say that I like the characters. I'll like the author for successfully pointing out the ludicrousness of the people being portrayed. But I do see what you mean for books that are action-oriented, like this one.

message 42: by Talia (new)

Talia *Whispers* I loved Gatsby...

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

The poor fool

message 44: by Gayle (new)

Gayle Terrific review, Kat. I expect no less.
Terrific book. Didn't know what to expect. Read a long time ago.

message 45: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy This Is a great book! Ya?

message 46: by Jordyn (new)

Jordyn I rarely read reviews on GR and this is the first time I've ever commented on one. I think this is a badass awesome review and I agree with it wholeheartedly!!!

Bipasha{is eviscerated by fiction} haha nice review! saved me a lotta trouble!
its funny...in the first line you mentioned mc and its ironically a short form for a REALLY bad abuse in our country.
you know i was stunned for a moment.then i got back to my senses.
great review anyways!
;) *still laughing* sorry...;)
