Lady Allison Gooood to know, Sarah! I had a hard enough time with the first one & I hate love triangles, too!!! SO overdone in YA.

message 2: by ♥ Sarah ♥ (new)

♥ Sarah ♥ Hey it's just a prediction. But, seems pretty likely huh? ...and yes, so do I! It just seems like the easy way out for authors to create conflict in relationships. There are definitely other ways to create the necessary conflict. Adult novels do it all the time! lol

Lady Allison Adult novels do it all the time!

Exactly!!!

message 4: by Rajshree (new)

Rajshree I wonder if she might be falling in love with the idea of a revolution and fighting back.... just a guess

Good thought! Could be. I'd actually be happy if that were the case because then there wouldn't be the dreaded love triangle! lol ...AND that might mean more action in this book than Delirium. :]

message 6: by Rajshree (new)

Rajshree lol i don't want their to be a love triangle either :)

message 7: by Dania (new)

Dania Black Love triangles aren't THAT bad... are they???

message 8: by ♥ Sarah ♥ (new)

♥ Sarah ♥ I guess that depends on who you're asking! ;) I personally am not a fan (obviously). I just think it's not a very creative way of stirring up conflict. Then, if you end up actually liking both of the love interests, someone ends up getting very hurt in the end (good example would be Vampire Academy). And that's just no fun! lol

message 9: by Dania (new)

Dania Black But it IS sort of entertaining...

message 10: by ♥ Sarah ♥ (new)

♥ Sarah ♥ lol I'll give you that SOMETIMES. I'd personally rather have more smoochy scenes with one guy thought than two guys fighting over her and NO smoochies happening though. hehe

message 11: by Dania (new)

Dania Black haha! depends what you're in the mood for I guess...

message 12: by Marisa (new)

Marisa ditto they are the worst. PLEASE let her end up with alex!

message 13: by ♥ Sarah ♥ (new)

♥ Sarah ♥ I hope so Marisa! :)

message 14: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina Alex sacrficed his life/freedom for her for crying out loud. That's TRUE love and no other boy can replace him!

message 15: by Sylwia (new)

Sylwia Reszczyńska I hate love triangles too, If she's in love with one guy why create the unnecessary drama? :D

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I hate and also love triangles. I guess it's the only way to keep it entertaining.

message 17: by ♥ Sarah ♥ (new)

♥ Sarah ♥ @Audrey. I don't necessarily think so. Adult novels create conflict outside the relationship as well as inside the relationship (in other ways) all the time.

If there is one guy the heroine is definitely leaning towards, I don't hate them as much because I know who to root for without getting my heart broken in the end! lol But...if she seems to be 50/50 then I very much dislike them because someone is bound to get hurt in the end (good example: Vampire Academy).

message 18: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca I hate love triangles and I hope that isn't what happens!

message 19: by Denise (new)

Denise Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of triangles, really... The girls ('cause there is always two guys an one girl) are all so annoying that sometimes you wish you could just reach inside the books and slap them.. Hard.. ;-)

message 20: by ♥ Sarah ♥ (new)

♥ Sarah ♥ @Denise - lol Yes! Or...reach inside and steal one of the guys from her. Hey, it would solve her love triangle woes. ;) lol

message 21: by Becca (new)

Becca i don't like them but i'm not saying that they suck.

message 22: by Amy (new)

Amy Sarah, I disagree with you on the love triangles, I think they give the books more flavor and keep a lot of female readers interested, they also make it easier to debate on the main character. When we discuss who the main character should pick we discuss who that person is, because what argument would work if we only pointed out how much we liked one of the options instead of who we were choosing for them. For example in The Hunger Games trilogy Katniss chooses between Gale and Peeta, and everyone who's read the series has picked a side, which is either Gale or Peeta. In The Girl Who Was On Fire 13 authors break down how choosing between Gale or Peeta helps readers understand the character Katniss. Plus, love triangles also allow room for more books, they leave loose ends that the author must tie up in a follow up series, like with Vampire Academy. In the series Rose battles with not only undead creatures but with herself. In the end we don't know what happens to the guy she didn't choose, nor do we know what happens to Sydney and/or the Keepers. So in a way, love triangles are good because they keep readers interested, help they digest the characters, and leave room for more books to come.

message 23: by Amy (new)

Amy I know it's a depressing thought, but I think she's going to pull a Romeo and Juliet on us. Alex is probably in the Jail right now in the same section that Lena's mom was in, he'll plan an escape and get out, but not soon enough, cause he'll probably find that Lena has either turned herself over to be cured or she'll have killed herself. Then, following the Romeo and Juliet theme, Alex will kill himself.

message 24: by ♥ Sarah ♥ (new)

♥ Sarah ♥ I do totally get what you're saying Amy. They do leave room for debate and it creates a more community from the book because people choose teams and that can be fun. I will admit that I jump on those wagons as well and sometimes it's fun.

But I guess I would like to see an author WHO CAN pull off a book series without a love triangle. I really don't think it's mandatory because plenty of adult urban fantasies do it. But at the same time, I really do get your points and in fact agree with some of them.

On a side note, I would have probably been pretty pissed off with not knowing what happened to the guy she didn't pick in VA if there hadn't been a spinoff series. The way that ended left my stomach in knots! lol

As for the Romeo and Juliet theme. I really don't think that's going to happen, it seems a little too dark for this series. Who knows, I could be surprised, but I just don't see that happening in this particular series. No, I think she'll use the thought that Alex is dead to introduce another love interest and then Alex will come back into the picture alive and well, only to learn he has some competition. But hey, that's just my opinion! :)

Thanks for your thoughts Amy, I really appreciate it. :)

message 25: by Amy (new)

Amy Yeah, I guess the whole Pearl Harbor (the movie) thing could happen too, but I think she was doing some foreshadowing in Delirium when Lena said her favorite piece of literature was Romeo and Juliet in her first evaluation.

Anything could happen in this series, there are still so many books to come....!

message 26: by ♥ Sarah ♥ (new)

♥ Sarah ♥ Ahh good point. I didn't remember that part where she said that. Hmm...that'd be interesting and ironic, yet tragic! lol

message 27: by Amy (new)

Amy I don't think it would be ironic, since that would mean she was FORESHADOWING, but i agree with you that it would be tragic...

message 28: by ♥ Sarah ♥ (new)

♥ Sarah ♥ No I meant ironic for Lena's character.

Gabrielle Carolina That's my prediction, as well.

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

Not the biggest fan of Love Triangles either. it can be entertaining sometimes but it's overused and besides! Alex risked his life for her! No1 can replace him. No1! D:

message 31: by Erica (new)

Erica No no no no! Ok seriously, i heard/read somehwere that lena finds a guy named julian(? I think) in the wilds... And then alex comes back!!! Seriosuly that is gonna be a huge love triangle...

message 32: by [deleted user] (last edited Dec 02, 2011 07:30AM) (new)

Erica wrote: "No no no no! OK seriously, i heard/read somewhere that Lena finds a guy named Julian(? I think) in the wilds... And then Alex comes back!!! Seriously that is gonna be a huge love triangle..."

i wouldn't mind if she started liking someone in the wilds but Alex came back and they got back together without any real relationship between the possible Julian and Lena

message 33: by Sana (new)

Sana Noor I hate love triangles too! They frustrate me far too much!

message 34: by Britnie (new)

Britnie Nooooo, literary deities, no. I don't think I'd be able to take it. I'm not fond of love triangles but I can stomch them if they happen in the first book (so I know what I'm getting myself into from the beginning) or before I've fallen in love with one of the guys myself. I adore Alex too much, if Lena starts falling for someone else I don't think I'll be able to stop myself from imagining slapping her fictional face. I mean honestly. It seems like a good prediction based on the summary but I really hope it's not true :(

HAHA i think the same things when there are love triangles..i seriously want to slap the girl in the face, she's so stupid during love triangles.

message 36: by ♥ Sarah ♥ (new)

♥ Sarah ♥ Britnie wrote: "Nooooo, literary deities, no. I don't think I'd be able to take it. I'm not fond of love triangles but I can stomch them if they happen in the first book (so I know what I'm getting myself into fr..."

Agreed. I really hope I'm wrong! lol You're right though, they're much more tolerable if they're introduced in the first book before we get attached to one of the guys.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) NO LOVE TRIANGLE!ERGGG..

message 38: by Gracie (new)

Gracie I have a really bad feeling that this is how the book is going to go...
she'll meet someone else in the wild, she try and go back for alex but he'll be cured, her and whats-his-face will search for a cure and she'll leave what's-his-face after Alex is cured...
Sounds a lot like UGLIES to me

message 39: by ♥ Sarah ♥ (new)

♥ Sarah ♥ hah. Yeah good point Gracie, that does sound a lot like the Uglies. Hopefully not though, but definitely a good possibility!

message 40: by Gracie (new)

Gracie Either way, i cant wait to read it

message 41: by ♥ Sarah ♥ (new)

♥ Sarah ♥ Oh yeah, definitely. I'll be reading it either way. I've heard some good things from people who received ARCs, so that's a good sign too! :)

message 42: by Erica (new)

Erica i read the ARC!...i was actually kinda disappointed throughout the book, but i can't say it wasn't good. It was amazing, i just wished it was more...ehh i can't say anything...don't want to spoil it. But anyways, the ending was amazing, and breath taking...and the whole story was great!

message 43: by Abigail (new)

Abigail I SERIOUSLY AGREE WITH YOU. all 3 things i guessed when i first figured out that there was a third book was everything you thought.

message 44: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Damn girl, you got it all right, so predictable. Although was an amazing book.

message 45: by Caity (new)

Caity ughhhh more love triangles! so over it! am i still dying for the next one? very yes.

message 46: by Emily (new)

Emily Uhm yes you were right! I'm sorry but I will always choose Alex! <3 I hate love triangles! grrr

message 47: by Janysa (new)

Janysa I mean I like love triangles if there done right, like how cassandra clare with will, jem and tessa. Anyways I'm so hopping she ends up with alex. And it isn't her fault, she thought he waz dead. You just have a miserable life becuz the one you love lost... you have to start living again, and thats what she did. It's just alex just had to come at the last minute..... nice goin alex:(

message 48: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Sanchez you were right!!!! but there is no way i can choose anyone but alex. its not Julians fault but alex was her first love and what started it all.

๑ஜ๑ Jαѕмιиє ๑ஜ๑ I too hate love triangles. Hate them. A lot.

message 50: by Kethnie (new)
