the second novel definitely has much more actual plot, a more complex story and a faster pacing. Books 3 and 4 were more of a mixed bag for me.

This book was a chore for me too. I did pick up the second and it was much the same chore as book one at first, but it picked up, and I actually ended up loving the characters and the relationship dynamics so much that I gave it four stars. I only gave two to The Thief.

@Maya: I'm glad you liked the second one. There seems to be a lot of differing opinions about this series.
@Stephanie: It's encouraging that you liked the second book. Thanks for the warning about the beginning. I won't get disheartened if I'm not immediately sucked in. I almost rated this one two stars too. It certainly didn't make me eager to read the rest of them despite all the praise.

I'm glad to hear you're going to try the sequel. I liked book one because of Gen, but I think the others in the series are a lot better. Good luck with

Thanks Emily. The consensus seems to be that the second book was better. I won't give up on this series before reading it. :)
