message 2: by karen (new)

karen holy shit, right?

message 3: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling Really??? Do tell.

message 4: by karen (new)

karen yeah, i am definitely going to review this, but i still have some others to review - i am reading too quickly to keep up with the reviewing! but yeah - soooo much fun!

message 5: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling Cool. Have it my pile, but have been hesitating because reviews have been so divided.

message 6: by karen (new)

karen not mine!!

Jenn "Awww Yeaaahhh" Haha, love the spoiler! And yes, I want the entire series NOW!

message 8: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling Awesome! Bumping it up the list. PS--kittens in a paper bag, or in a tied canvas one? o - O

Erica (daydreamer) Love your review!

message 10: by K. (new)

K. Maybe I took this book too seriously because like you said, sometimes we should just accept and go with it. But still...anyway, your review was...fun! Haha!

message 11: by Crowinator (new)

Crowinator Maybe your dislike of the cover explains why this book is not checking out in my library despite the buzz surrounding it (at least among librarians and booksellers and publishers) and the popularity of teen dystopias. I thought it was cool-looking, but maybe it's too abstract?

message 12: by Wesley (new)

Wesley Yeah for me this one came out of the left-field of awesomeness. Good stuff.

message 13: by karen (new)

karen 1) kittens in a paper bag, like when they get curious and pounce:

2) the cover just looks cheap to me. and it looks like a boy-robot adventure book. or like this:

message 14: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling Agree with you on the cover. It looks sort of generic and I-may-have-a-weather-control-device type of plot.

I see your kitten in a bag and I raise you cat with a giant box.

message 15: by karen (new)

karen Tommy wrote: "i'm voting out of friendship. not out of respect for the star decisions mentioned above."

but you see my point. you remember i also gave fve stars to Killer Crabs. but also!!! also Lips Touch: Three Times. maybe i just have superhigh expectations for laini. (first-name basis - woo!!) no, but tomato, you know i loved that book. i loved that book. now i gotta go see what this giant box is all about.

message 16: by karen (new)

karen oh my god that cat is so fat!! soooo cute!

message 17: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling I looooove Maru. Best cat videos ever.

message 18: by karen (new)

karen i got a hopping red panda:

message 19: by Miriam (new)

Miriam Marshmallow syrup?! I did not know there was such a thing! Can you put it in grilled cheese? Or on emergency rations?

message 20: by karen (new)

karen it's the stuff ice cream parlors have. i like it best over black raspberry. i don't know why i said strawberry before.

message 21: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling The husband and I were JUST talking about red pandas this morning! Weird.

This review is so awesome, btw. I know what you mean about "if you need your dystopian fiction to make sense..." if I like the writing and am entertained, I'm willing to overlook some stuff. This sounds really fun! But I will be back to complain loudly and bitterly if it sucks.

message 22: by karen (new)

karen there are no sharks in it.does that help?

message 23: by karen (new)

karen marshmallow on human flesh... i like your thinking...

message 24: by karen (new)

karen read it!!

message 25: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling Karen, it's not the sharks I loathe...it's the self-centered, stalker-ish, whiny teenage girls.

Tommy: Eh...this is awkward. I have not read LTT, mainly because I was so weirded out by the constant references to the red, red lips on the men. :/ I know, I know! I have seen the rave reviews, but I don't know if I can do it.

message 26: by Karen (new)

Karen I am soooo glad you liked this book... I feel HONORED to have recommended a good read to you ;)

message 27: by karen (new)

karen how had i not heard of this?? you are the best for opening my eyes!!

message 28: by Bill (new)

Bill as usual, my fucking library doesn't have this book which means if i want to read it i have to buy it...i guess since you gave it 5 stars, it's worth it, yeah?and how did you get daughter of smoke and bone already? it's not supposed to be coming out until september!

message 29: by Bill (new)

Bill now i can't even order one because of the fucking postal strike...GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! the good news is it's only just over $10 from bookdepository.com.

message 30: by karen (new)

karen tommy got me an ARC from BEA. as for this one - it's a lot of fun (as you may have gleaned from my review)but i'm skeered because i don't know if other people would like it enough to own it. i need to see where the rest of the series goes. but if it's cheap - why not?

message 31: by Begona (new)

Begona Fernandez I'm another one that hadn't even heard of this book. Oh well better late than never. One more for the wish list. By the way my favourite place to read is in the kitchen. And always with music

message 32: by Sarah (new)

Sarah love this review, and couldn't agree more. i want to read this book for the first time again and again, but it won't be the first time :( oh whyyyyy is the second one not out yet?

message 33: by Cassie (new)

Cassie Love this review (after typing this I see that this is just how the last comment started...heh). But I love the fact that you make it very clear what about this book worked for you.

message 34: by karen (new)

karen i don't mind repetitive compliments!

message 35: by Trudi (new)

Trudi Could not agree more about the cover -- truly bad!!! "there was no grilled cheese that night" :D :D :D
Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down either. Groovalicious!

message 36: by karen (new)

karen i hope the paperback will be better.

message 37: by Trudi (new)

Trudi It's being translated into 16 different languages ... I'll be really curious to see the design foreign publishers come up with

message 38: by karen (new)

karen seriously- someone's gotta get it right. sweden, i'm looking at you!

message 39: by Lisa (new)

Lisa I agree with you on the cover!

message 40: by Ritesh (new)

Ritesh I don't know how to make my reviews fun fun fun fun fun fun fun fun :(

message 41: by karen (new)

karen just play with the format - be creative. "reviewing" here gives you all sorts of opportunities that regular reviewing doesn't. like this:

any time you can put that picture in a book review - it automatically becomes fun.

message 42: by Ritesh (new)

Ritesh Hmm .. seems like I'll have to start writing different reviews for goodreads and my blog ;)

message 43: by Karen (new)

Karen Wow! awarded best book of the year!

message 44: by karen (new)

karen ha-HAAAA! take that, suckers!

message 45: by Giana (new)

Giana "i want this entire series to be written, now, and i want to climb out onto my fire escape with a package of iced oatmeal cookies and my rabbit and some pink lemonade and not be disturbed for a week or so. depending on how long this series is going to be."

Hahahahaha this is why I love your reviews Karen!! So true!!!

message 46: by karen (new)

karen oh, man - i really want iced oatmeal cookies right now. i am so susceptible to my own words.

message 47: by Gea (new)

Gea Fun review. Fun, fun, fun.

message 48: by karen (new)

karen haahh thank you!

message 49: by Kristy (new)

Kristy Your spoiler makes me laugh. And, 100% agree on the cover!

message 50: by karen (new)

karen oh, man - i loved that scene!
