I agree with you on the ending. It felt like her editor said let's give it a fairy tale ending and she added one in. I felt the book could have ended a few pages earlier and felt truer to the storyline.

I agree... Cried like a baby. Very cathartic.

I disagree that she gave this book a fairy tale ending... I feel like the ending made the whole story that much more heart wrenching. To know that they were there all along. Kills me. I thought the ending was wonderfully done

I think what bothered me about the ending was that it seemed too perfect. The mother told her own life story as a "fairy tale" to distance herself from the horror. Then the end tied up all the loose ends too perfectly. Maybe I should've been happier about the ending but the contrast with the tragedy in the middle was jarring for me. I'd read it again though!
