Laura I see you finally picked this one up :o) Looking forward to seeing what you think!

message 2: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy I know! It's taken me forever.

message 3: by AH (new)

AH That was an interesting review. Once again, I am awed by your use of visual aids. Very entertaining!

message 4: by Megan (new)

Megan I was interested in this one, but haven't heard much about it. Good to know it's worth checking out :)

message 5: by Kim (new)

Kim I'm reading this right now, your review is hilarious.

I see you're not a fan of Anita either ^^

I stopped reading her books before it got really ugly.

message 6: by Penny (new)

Penny I saw Vampires Suck, laughed uncontrollably through the majority of it, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Sure it was stupid. So stupid. But it sucked less then any one of the twilight books and was infinitely better then most YA UF/PNF being published these days.

Anyway, great review. I have the Paranormalcy audio book and will be starting it as soon as I finish Zombies vs Unicorns, and get through the last twenty-ish pages of Rot & Ruin.

I'm excited to start Paranormalcy because of all the positive reviews.

message 7: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa I want to see Vampires Suck! But I think I'm going to wait until it comes out on video.

message 8: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Penny - did you like Rot & Ruin? I quite liked it. Yes, Vampires Suck was better than the Twilight movie!

Kim - Yeah, you did the right thing. It went WAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy off the deep end. I hope you're enjoying Paranormalcy!

Annalisa - give it a go, it definitely had some funny bits.

AH - Visual aids are teh best. I highly recommend them. :D

message 9: by Pickles (new)

Pickles You've convinced me to give this a chance! I was up in the air about it.

LethalLovely~Maybe I've Always Been More Comfortable in Chaos Awesome review, Kat! I've had this book on my TBR shelf for awhile & it's a relief that it's not another crap-ass book with a beautiful cover. Now, I know Evie has Mary Sue tendencies, but does she has sheballs? Cause I likes a heroine with sheballs...as long as she doesn't flash me.

message 11: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy She has sheballs, LL! I'm impressed with her sheballs.

message 12: by Kim (new)

Kim I ended up liking this book, I didn't expect that.

message 13: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Same, Kim. It was refreashing not to have to trash another YA paranormal.

message 14: by Lina (new)

Lina I'm so glad that this is actually good because after Firelight I was worried to be taken in again.

Joyzi Vampire Sucks sucks *kidding*

message 17: by Danica (new)

Danica Mccabe thank you! i have been reading reviews for the past hour, and was starting to think there were no good books left! however, your review has made my day and i will most definitely be going to barnes and nobles tonight to buy this book.

I almost decided on Halo instead but laughed when i saw it in your category of boring, cliche YA books and quickly changed my mind.

message 18: by Amazon80 (new)

Amazon80 You write the best frickin’ reviews. I’m going to grow some sheballs.
I’ve been on a UF/PNR binge but will definitely throw this YA in for good measure. Another really funny YA that caught me by surprise was Hex Hall. Really funny!

message 19: by Nishtha (new)

Nishtha Your review is so funnny!!! I absolutely agree with you about the girl protagonist in up coming books are like weaklings!! They are not strong at all!! I tried reading fallen I hated it!! My favorite part was when the guy flips her of on the first day!!!

And if u like strong women roles!! Try out sabina kane series, chicagoland vampires, succubus series and Vampire academy series!!!

message 20: by Misty (last edited Dec 22, 2010 07:27PM) (new)

Misty Okay, a good portion of this review I had to skip over because I intend to read the book and don't want any pre-whatever; I will come back. HOWEVER, I did have to read the Jean Claude bits and YESSSSSSSSSSS. Jesus Christ, what the hell, Laurell K? I know we talked about this before, but she has issues.
♥ the pictures.

message 21: by SimBim (new)

SimBim Hey, nice review! I'm in Paris on holiday right now. Just saw this book in WHSmith and wondered if this was good enough to buy. It has good reviews...just wondering if this was a YA book, or a paranormal romance for adults...thanks.

message 22: by Misty (new)

Misty It's YA

message 23: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy As Misty said - very YA.

message 24: by SimBim (new)

SimBim Okay, thanks!

message 25: by Faith (new)

Faith u r high-larious... thanks

message 26: by Jess (new)

Jess I have always wondered about the Anita Blake marvel comics - What happens when they catch up to book 10 in the series and Anita starts having sex every second page. Will marvel start producing Porn???

message 27: by Sandra (I don't read, I devour.) (last edited May 23, 2011 11:46PM) (new)

Sandra (I don't read, I devour.) I really liked the characters voice here. I would compare it more to Lackey's characters. If you haven't checked her out as an author, I would highly recommend her books. Start with the Fairy Godmother or The Fire Rose.

Loving your review. Convinced me to move this book to the top of my to read: stack. First REAL book with actual pages that you turn I've read in a while. Kinda surprised me how fast I got back into the flick, turn page, forget your turning pages and just do it automagicaly mode.

message 28: by Wadzanai (new)

Wadzanai Mufunde lol! She-balls. I know what you mean about Vampire's Suck. I thought it was just awful. I loved your review. Very visual and quite funny. I found it a fun easy to read book. I really want to strangle Reth but I can't help but like him for some reason. I have an obsession with faeries since the Wicked Lovely series. Couldn't go back to Aprillyne Pike's Wings series after that though.

message 29: by Seth (new)

Seth Frost Awesome review; I was on the fence about getting this, but you convinced me to give it a try! :) Also glad to find another person who wasn't....charmed (?) by the Anita Blake novels; have you tried the Dresden Files?

message 30: by Abby (new)

Abby So funny! Geez, my reviews are lame compared to a lot of the ones I read on here. I think I'm compiling a list of favorite reviewers, especially if they've read books I have so I can feel socially validated in my reading selections.

I can recommend The Next Thing I Knew because the main character kind of reminds me of Evie. Thankfully she doesn't carry around anything like Tasey or a pink pocket rocket with rhinestones named Screwy.

message 31: by Jase (new)

Jase Have you read Nevermore by Kelly CReagh ?

message 32: by Therealbadkitty (new)

Therealbadkitty You forgot Zoey in your list of Mary Sues. Awesome review btw.

message 33: by Stella B. (new)

Stella B. I accidentaly google Paranormalcy insted of Paranormal Activity and the first few sentences of the review caught my intention, so I've read it since I've read the book, and then only thing I have to say that yes, Nora from Hush, Hush was extremely boring and dull in the beginning but she really did grew some sheballs in the end (proved!!) and also had Tessa (if you're thinking of that Tessa from The Infernal Devices). It's really nice to see a female character develop that way. (◕‿◕✿)

message 34: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Gumenick Ah vampires suck...that movie never fails to make me feel so much better about myself for some reason. I liked it better than twilight though that is a good book to read when your sick cause god is it funny to me. I still have yet to read most of those other books you mentioned...I was reading hush hush but I forgot why I stopped. I have them all on my list though so we shall see. I liked this series and I'm probably going to read it again eventually I just have so much on my list right now that idk when I'll get to it.

message 35: by Katy (new)

Katy H I got sick of Anita Blake too. I actually binged on Laurell K. Hamilton for awhile several (like 10) years ago and after a few books I thought "Wow, she's just going to solve all of her problems by having sex with various were-animals - oh yeah and the vampire, huh? Yep, I'm done." I have a tendency to like almost everything else though. As long as it's not raunchy, I don't mind it though I have grown a little tired of all the were-animals and shifters. Between Anita Blake and Twilight I think I just felt like I'd had all I could take but I often find it still doesn't bother me to read about them even now. As long as they've not having a ton of weird sex...
