Hi Chris, I was looking through reviews for the Hobbit (one of my favorites) and came across your review. I noticed you mentioned Tolkien as father of modern fantasy. I think you'd be happy to read a book or two by William Morris. I only say this because he is also quite often described as the first writer of what we now call fantasy, publishing his most often noted works in the late 1800's. I'd particularly recommend the Wood Beyond the World, and the Well at the World's End (Vol. I & II)
Do what you will with that knowledge :)

Thanks for the info I'm always open to new books, especially if it involves fantasy. I actually wrote this review I think at this point almost a year and a half ago and had to reread it myself to even remember what I had said. Thanks for the recommendation and I'll have to check Morris out when I get a chance. Also thanks for pointing out that I was somewhat wrong in a nice way haha.

It's hard to be "wrong" about such a subjective topic:) Differences in opinion on subjective topics are what make discussion fun. Enjoy reading and Goodreads!
