Goodreads Voice: Book People Unite
Take the pledge and get a free download of the full-length track produced by the Roots with Chris Martin, John Legend, Regina Spektor, Jack Black, and more!
Are you a book person? Join the Book People Unite campaign to help the nonprofit Reading Is Fundamental raise awareness and funds for children's literacy. Access to books is one of the key predictors of a child's success in and out of school. So RIF has joined forces with the Library of Congress to enlist your help in getting books into the hands of young readers. Here's what you can do: Watch the PSA video at left—with music by a host of celebrity guests and starring beloved storybook characters such as Curious George, Madeline, and Raggedy Ann and Andy—and then pledge your support for the cause. RIF has distributed 400 million books to children in underserved communities since its founding in 1966.

I would love to sign the pledge, but unfortunately I can't since I have no American zip code (I live in the Netherlands). I hope Goodreads will make it international! :)
Too bad! My Philippine zip code is not accepted. I guess there must be a flash here that the pledge is for US-based people.
Real Books will never go away, at least until the day we all get chips installed in our head, for direct reading :-( God I hope that never happens!
Good news everyone! If you want to sign the pledge from outside the U.S., just use the zipcode 55555. Book People Unite!
I'm sure the reason international zip codes aren't allowed is because Reading is Fundamental has been generally funded by the US Federal Government... but it's great that people everywhere support this cause. I'm a librarian that has worked with RIF for the past three years, and RIF days are my students (and my) favorite days of the year.
Unfortuneatly, I can't sign the pledge as I live in the UK but I email some friends who live in America so I will recommend them to sign the pledge and I will support this fully.
