Goodreads Voice: Books For Africa
By Goodreads Staff | Published Sep 06, 2010 07:05pm
In Africa, nearly 50 million children have never attended school. Even for those with access to education, it is not uncommon for an entire classroom to share one textbook. Books For Africa hopes to fight this paucity. The non-profit gathers book donations from publishers, libraries, and individuals and sorts the materials into age- and subject-appropriate batches. Since 1988, the organization has shipped more than 22 million books to rural school libraries, adult literacy programs, and communities in 45 African countries.
Book shipments are made possible by generous donations from people like you. It only costs about 50 cents to send a book to Africa. Please consider supporting one box of books for an African classroom.
