Each month Goodreads highlights a different charitable foundation that promotes reading, but given the recent devastation in Haiti, we've decided to recommend a group that does more than simply promote literacy. Save the Children has worked in Haiti since 1978 and has been instrumental in the emergency effort, providing medical attention, safe drinking water, and food distribution to more than 200,000 children and families. Rehabilitation of Haiti's education system is also a key goal. The organization is active in more than 50 nations.
