A solid three stars. A super easy second-chance at love, with a-bit-of-suspense-thrown-in-to-keep-the-pages-turning story. I mostly sped-read through the non-romance, non-suspense bits, which wasn't that much to tell you the truth.

Hero: hotty, with a badge Mike Andrews
heroine: sweet, hurting bakery owner and single mom Sara Jamison
mini hero: seven year old Ethan Jamison

Freebie on Amazon. It's a pretty cheesy romance. Sara and Mike are high school sweethearts until someone splits them up with lies. Eight years later, Mike comes back only to discover he has a son. Misunderstandings are resolved, but now Mike is dealing with some undercover information and needs to keep his family safe.

The story was really kind of all over the place. I didn't necessarily need a past recap, but everything was really fast. It was like everything in the past was forgiven and it doe

Sara Jamison has just gotten some news that she didn’t think she would ever hear – Mike Andrews is coming home. Mike had left small town Green Bay for almost a decade and he has had no contact until now.

Sara is petrified because not only did Mike leave town but he also left her pregnant. Him coming home did nothing for the animosity that she and her family felt for him. But she can’t think only about her sore heart or her bruised ego – A child is involved and he is deserves to know his father.

The coarse, unlikeable characters just turned me off right from the beginning and I could not enjoy this book. Garrett, the immature cop with such an out of control temper who never faced any consequences or discipline for his violent acting out, was just too much to swallow and one of the low points of this poorly developed story. Really, didn't anybody ever send that big baby to bed without his supper? Then there was the secret baby crapola...really that old chestnut has been so overdone, and ...more

4.5 stars of Second chance romance goodness!

This was such a surprisingly great story. It combined all my favorite things in a story. High school sweethearts, second chance romance and the surprise daddy trope. I was looking for an escape and was quickly sucked into this book which also had a little bit of a suspenseful twist to it.

Sara and Mike were high-school sweethearts torn apart by lies and deceit. Her best friend made her think Mike was an abusive cheater and in turn showed Mike a video of

When I grabbed my copy, it was free on Amazon Kindle. Don't know if it still is, but if you're interested, look it up. :)

Why didn't this book receive a higher rating from me? Well, one of these reasons may sound a little silly to a lot of people, but I don't really believe in the whole left you 8 years ago, because there was an accusation thrown in about your SO cheating on you, and then coming back and still being in love with the said woman. BUT the man didn't contact the woman not once during

First, I have an admission to make. At first, I was not a fan of this particular work. It punched several of my hot buttons, and not in a good way. But then, books have always been the way I approach, observe and comprehend life. And sometimes, what I read reflects back and shines light into the darkest areas of my soul.

Wow. Did I just say that? Well, yes I did. Pretty deep for a light romantic novel, wouldn't you say? But again, Donna has touched on a lot of issues in this little volume that a

This one started out interesting but quickly went down hill and turned way too predictable. Thankfully I picked it up as a free book.

Sara (h) is a single mother ,living with her brothers and her Uncle. She also runs a successful bakery. The father of her young son was her High School sweetheart, only he left her and left town and never looked back.......not knowing that he had fathered a child. She could never forgive him for the pain that he had caused her, still causes her al

It’s like crack. Or so I’ve been told…..

What I mean is that you start this book, you read 10 pages, and then you’re stuck. Trapped! Real life priorities like eating, sleeping, working, etc. just die on the vine…because you HAVE to finish this book. Can’t stop reading. And then you move on to Garrett’s story.

I like “secret baby” books, because I want to find out what would drive a mother to keep a child away from its father. If there’s a damned good reason, then the book hooks me. If not, she jus

I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved all the characters (brothers included). They were funny, intense and well...just what brothers are. I loved Mike and Sara, and how they were open to knowing and fixing what went wrong so many years before. Overall, this was a great read and I'm ready to read Garrett's story.

Good reading!

I was surprised at some of the developments in the story. It is much more than just a typical romance. Any reader who wants a well-rounded storyline that captures all emotions, will really enjoy this book!
Sometimes you read a book and almost none of the characters are likable, and it's such a shame, because the story line is just what you're looking for.
Added this 3 months after I read it and really had no lingering impressions

This felt like a Lifetime movie of the week only in book form. Cute story but a bit too sappy for my taste.

This is a quick, fun read with a bit of suspense and a bit of mystery thrown in. I really liked Mike as a character. I wasn't so keen on Sara, but he loved her, so that was good enough for me.

As with so many contemporary romances, there are the obligatory sex scenes, which can get pretty tedious. Just how many times must we read blow-by-blow (Pun intended) accounts of the same characters having sex? But I'm probably in the minority with this, so I will just have to content myself with skipping

Lies destroyed their past.

I couldn't. I struggled from the point where Sara claimed Mike didn't have enough faith in their love. It's a contrived storyline but I was doing pretty good up until that line. The more she continued to act like a bratty child, the more I struggled. Why can't someone write a rational female character. She seemed to have some semblance of logic in the beginning. I continued to read hoping someone would call her a hypocrite or shed realize it herself. And then the scene where she tells him he has ...more

This was a freebie that I clicked on. I am glad for that click. This was a wild ride book. It had love, drama, and suspense. This is a second chance story for Mike and Sara. Years ago Mike and Sara were torn apart by a misunderstanding that caused Mike to leave without a word to anyone leaving Sara alone and pregnant and not knowing how to get in touch with him. The misunderstanding is found out quickly, thank goodness. Sara got a bit on my nerves as she blamed Mike for the misunderstanding when ...more

It seems to me that BOTH Mike and Sara are to blame for their breakup but for some reason the entire blame was put on Mike and that was completely unfair. They were both young, they were both foolish, they were both lied and deceived and they both chose to believe those lies. Yes Mike chose to leave and that was his mistake, but like I said he was young and that's what his decision was based upon.

The Jamison clan took over protectiveness to a whole new level, I mean to keep a kid away from his f

2.5 stars from this reader. Sara & Mike were lovers eight years prior in this novel which opens in Sara's bakery in a small town. She is raising her 7-year-old son with the help of an uncle and 3 strapping brothers. The characters were interesting, and I love anything revolving around domesticity and baking, so initially I liked it a lot.

After Mike comes back to town and it becomes clear why they lost their way as a couple, Mike discovers he is a father and that he still loves Sara. She lov

This is the first novel I’ve read from Donna Marie Rogers and I really enjoyed it.

The heroine, Sara Jamison, is the only female in the Jamison family brood and they all live in their childhood home. At first glance this may be hard to swallow, but Ms. Rogers makes it believable by having the Jamison parents die while the now grown children are young and leave Uncle Luke to care for them. When a pregnant teenage Sara becomes pregnant her elder brothers, Garrett and Nicky, stay home to help raise

Stand alone in a series

Silly and contrived and at times so slow I skimmed from quarter the way through. I didn't like the h for a host of reasons but these will do.

For eight years Sara kept her son a secret then blamed Mike when he showed up and gave him the royal runaround with the help of older brother Garrett.

Garrett called off a date for her with his colleague Jason then Jason spotted her out that evening with Mike and their son, Ethan.

She barely moved on and never had sex with an
I hate to say this is going to have be chalked up as a DNF for me. I'm about 1/3 of the way into it and I just can't seem to care what happens to these people.

I wanted to like this because the author is from Green Bay and the book is set in GB, which is my husband's home town but the book is written just to weakly for me. Not enough character and plot development.

A definitely 5 star deserving book..
I loved this book. From the starting till the very end.
I loved the characters, the plot, the writing, the humour...absolutely everything..
The best part about this one was there was no bullshitting done by the author.
Nothing dragged even for one second..
No stupid misunderstandings, no unnecessary complications, no stretching things even for one moment.
It was perfect and absolutely how it was supposed to be.
As the story went.. I suspected the author would try an

WOW I loved this book, I am looking forward to reading Garrett's story.

To have lost love to a bitch and her brother is sad. To come together again, get over the misunderstanding just to find you might lose everything you found is mind blowing. The ups, downs, twist and turns has you glued to your seats. Mike and Sarah had the best love, which two people torn them apart. Both believing the other cheated on them. With the death of Mike's father he came back. With hell to pay from the brothers he

This book is one that is hard to put down.

A high school romance had been sabotaged by a jealous girl and because of that, the boy left town and only returned due to the death of his father. Upon arrival in town he looked up her first love and when he found her she was very bitter. He tried to pursue her as to why and that is when he found out they had been set up. After asking around, he started getting answers. He tried to talk to his girl but she wanted no part. After certain facts were found
