I did manage to finish this book, mostly because it had so many good reviews, I thought it must be going to do something surprising. It didn't really, at least not plot-wise. This was the book that wasnt quite sure if it was about faith, or a mystery, or a romance. Yes, something can be all 3, I just dont think this came together.

So, Jake is a work-a-holic widower cop who lost his faith after his wife's death. He is assigned to do protective duty for a judge whose pregnant sister was shot in her
I've heard good things about Irene Hannon's romantic suspense books...and it is all TRUE!! Wow! Fatal Judgment a wild ride!!

Both Jake and Liz were great characters. Brought to life through Irene's writing voice, I really connected with them.

And the whole adventure, with the wacko killer after Liz, was intense! Especially the very detailed, and brilliant, abduction. I was on the edge of my seat, rooting for Jake and his friends to find her in time. What a close call!!

All in all, I thoroughly enj
This is a run-of-the-mill story with no surprises. The writing flows along well enough, but not a lot is said and none of it fresh. The hero, Jake, has ‘chiseled features’ and a ‘clean-shaven jaw.’ She ‘nestled against a broad, solid chest’. This is not essentially bad but when the same kind of formulaic description and incident occurs on every page it is hard to stay the course. The discovery of the villain’s identity felt very contrived and the ending drags on far too long once the action is o ...more
SUMMARY: U.S. Marshal Jake Taylor has seen plenty of action during his years in law enforcement. But he'd rather go back to Iraq than face his next assignment: protection detail for federal judge Liz Michaels. His feelings toward the coldhearted workaholic haven't warmed in the five years since she drove her husband--and Jake's best friend--to despair . . . and possible suicide.

Being a U.S. Marshal, Jake Taylor should be used to the lack of downtime but that does not mean that he has to like it. Jake is barely off the airplane, when his phone rings. It is his boss. I appreciate that this was a clean book and wasn't just about shooting people. It was exciting at parts.

However, I found myself gagging on the lameness and dry-heaving on the cheesiness. I'm not an author, nor have I had any extensive training in writing, but I kept getting distracted by rewording really awkward sentences, unrealistic dialogue, and over-the-top interactions in my head. Doesn't the author have an editor that's supposed to help her out with that stuff? What about a writing group
I have to say the cover is what made me check it out to begin with, it didn't hurt that I got it for free.
I have to say the author did a good job of creating characters that I could liked. Their relationship developed over time instead of instantly which I liked.
This book didn't focus on sex, even thought there was some sexual tension, there wasn't any foul language, and the story actually centered on the characters themselves.

This was my first book by Irene Hannon, and I am now a fan!

The writing: The story was so well written and I loved how the characters were portrayed. The writing made me love the characters and being drawn in to their story from the start. I felt compassion for both Liz and Jake and loved to see the love between them grow, as well as how they went through the healing process from their past.

The suspense story was also well written. The bad guy was revealed from the beginning, however, I liked thi
"Fatal Judgment" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. Since the main characters were more concerned about each other than the threat for most of the story, I'd call this more romance than suspense. The physical-danger suspense was low during the first two-thirds of the book because the "good guys" weren't sure Liz was actually in any danger until then. However, the suspense did spike at the climax.

The characters were complex and dealt with some realistic relationship issues. The details about
Summary: Jake Taylor, U.S. Marshal, is assigned to protect federal judge Liz Michaels, who just happens to be the widow of his college best friends. Liz's sister was murdered at Liz's house, and the police believe Liz may have been the target. Jake dreads protecting Liz based on his friend's description of her cold ruthlessness and focus on her career above all else. Liz surprises Jake by being warm and caring, the total opposite of what he expected.

U.S. Marshal Jake Taylor has spent a stint in Iraq, and he’d rather go back than to cover his next assignment, Federal judge Liz Michaels, the former wife of a now deceased college buddy. Jake is convinced she drove him to despair and … possible suicide. For five years he’s thought of her as a cold-hearted, workaholic woman.

Given a mistaken murder and an unknown enemy, the circumstances up the ante, leaving Liz in even more danger. The who and why are uncertain. With little to no clues, they nee
I absolutely adore Irene Hannon! Since reading her Heroes of Quantico series, I've been looking forward to this new one. This first book of series was everything I expected and more. As with her others, this book immediately sucks you into the suspenseful plot and keeps you on your toes, all the while, capturing your heart with a touch of romance.

Besides the engrossing plot line of Hannon's books, one thing I enjoy the most is how her heroines are always strong and admirable. Federal Judge Liz M
The last thing U.S. Marshal Jake Taylor wants is a high-profile protection case that places him anywhere in the vicinity of the widow of his best friend from college – federal judge Elizabeth Michaels. Convinced that the woman’s single-minded drive to advance her career destroyed his friend, Jake determines to maintain a strict professional distance. But his resolve is tested when it becomes apparent that Liz’s sister was murdered in a tragic case of mistaken identity, and the judge herself was ...more

Fatal Judgment is a chilling story that can be taken from today’s headlines. Irene Hannon pens a realistic, intriguing, gripping story I couldn’t put down. In light of a recent shooting that took place in Tucson, Arizona a month ago, of a female politician and a man in Florida who held a school board at gun point earlier this year, the situation in this book is very real. I was thankful to receive a review copy of a book where a federal judge’s life is in danger. The FBI procedures Irene Hannon ...more

I like Irene Hannon. I've enjoyed everything I've read by her. Like her Heroes of Quantico series, this one is fast-paced and exciting with the right amount of suspense and the right amount of romance. The characters are well developed and likeable. The premise is one that could be taken from headlines today: disgruntled people with a grudge against the government who attack politicians and government representatives.

Liz has her faith tested when her sister is murdered and she finds herself und

Fatal Judgement is the first book by Irene Hannon that i have read. It most certainly won't be the last. Hannons characters are superby detailed, enough so they become real people. The plot is reasonable and apt to happen. Liz, a federal judge is targeted for execution by an anti government zealot. He mistakenly kills her sister. Liz is assigned protection from the U.S.Marshall services with personal interest from Marshall Jake. Despite the best laid plans Liz gets kidnapped and it's a rush by J ...more
I really liked this book.. action is great, mystery twists is awesome. and a little romance on the side just made it perfect!! with the exception of how insane that guy was. I know its reality - there are people like that in the world, it just scared me a little.
*** I never knew that red pen was indicating anything and i love using it.I had to stop filing my business contracts with it after this book.
I'm totally recommending it to all that love mystery romance.
This my first time reading a book like this. I loved all of the action and how it kept you turning the page. It was taken place in Chicago when a federal judges sister was murdered. They assign a group of marshals to watch her. Turns out one of the marshals (jake) knows her. This book was absolutely amazing and I recommend it to all.
I really enjoyed this book. it was suspenseful and had some romance, albeit cheesy thrown in. There wasn't too much development in the romantic department. My big conflict isn't really major. the only thing that kept bothering me was that the author kept using out of date terminology for technology. this book was written 3 years ago so her terminology shouldn't have sounded as if the older generation was working the case. I don't know how old the author is but that may have played a factor. over ...more

Great start to the Guardians of Justice series. The series revolves around the Taylor family - Jake, Cole and Allison. Fatal Judgment is Jake's story.

Jake is with the U.S. Marshals - SOG devision. He is assigned to protect Judge Liz Michaels after her sister is murdered. Liz is the widow of his best friend. Based on everything his former best friend told him about Liz, Jake did not like her. Could he have misjudged Liz?

As with all Irene Hannon books this book is full of suspense with a side of

Her characters are always wonderful and the suspense keeps you up into the night wanting to finish the book. I cannot wait for the next book. I enjoyed all the characters and would love to see any of them with their own book in the series. Jake and Liz have great tension between them and you enjoy seeing it develop. The author creates a great relationship with Jake and his siblings. You will not be disappointed by this book. I also highly recommend her Heroes of Quantico series....

Despite it's predictability, I definitely enjoyed this book. The predictability factor goes along with most romance novels but I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. I will definitely be looking into the next book in the series.

Here it goes....

Judge Elizabeth Michaels is a strong willed, fair, supreme court judge. She doesn't have much family left but is a strong woman and can get through anything on her own. She lost her mother young and her father a little bit later. Her husband also died

This book was not one of my favourite Irene Hannon novels. It featured more a romantic theme than a criminal/suspense novel. There were so many logistical errors in the criminal plot line that made it unbelievable, e.g. neighbours and staff members visiting and delivering good to a US Marshall's safe house; let alone still going to the office for work. In the romance department, my initial thoughts were both of them have lost their spouses at the ripe old age of twenty something? How convenient ...more
Once again I have found a suspense book that I really enjoyed. Fatal Judgment is the first in a new series from author, Irene Hannon who is definitely making a name for herself as one of the top suspense writers, at least in my book (no pun intended)! What really surprised me about this story is that even though the author let's us know who the bad guy is right away it didn't take away from the story at all! Usually if I can figure out who committed the crime I lose a bit of interest in the book ...more
I will admit I am a fan of Irene Hannon since I first read Against All Odds last year, but I have to say that Fatal Judgment just blew me away. Tight suspense, great romance and strong characters made this book shine and made it hard to put down. I'm not even sure I can do this book justice, it was really amazing.

First I'll start with the plot. Diving right into the action, the book starts with Liz's sister being shot in Liz's home. What looks like a domestic dispute gone wrong turns into someth

Warning! This book is fatally hazardous to ones sleep! True to the description on the back of the book, the book keeps the reader turning the pages long, long, long into the night. Each turn of the page brings fast paced suspenseful crime blended with tender romance. It lasts through out the book (starting immediately from the first sentence!) until the very last page. Thus, the fatal hazard to the readers sleep. You will NOT be able to, or even want to, put it down. And, the good thing is, this ...more
