Man, alien or devil?

Spring Heeled Jack was not just the stuff of legends, he was the original legend. Before Jack The Ripper there was another Jack in town, but this Jack didn't merely reside in the shadows waiting to attack.....

The tides of time are a strange phenomena. Almost as strange as the reported appearance of a modern day killer, who bears an uncanny resemblance

With this book I am dithering between 2 and 3 stars for the review. I was intrigued by the synopsis, a demonic figure from English folklore who appears in modern times. The book itself is split between Victorian times, and the modern day. The idea seemed ripe for a good macabre read, however in reality poor execution really let it down.
Time zones would switch without warning, leading to confusion. The bad use of grammar, and the profusion of spelling mistakes ended up making this a chore to read

Urban legend Spring Heeled Jack receives an update in Stuart Neild's tale of horror and uber-violence. A Victorian Inspector is thwarted at every turn as he tries to track down the demonic creature holding London in its sway. In the present day, Kate, a young student plagued by nightmares of shadow and shape, is duped into participating in a pub hypnotist's exhibition and releasing something from the past upon the present. The narrative is fast paced and delivered from multiple perspectives ...more

Spring-Heeled Jack, scourge of Victorian London— part man, part demon— wonderfully reanimated by author Stuart Neild in this grisly tale of lust and horror. Masterfully written by a master author of this genre. Get this book!

a very clever two strand novel that leaves you guessing right up to the end.

I should have trusted all prior reviews but hoped the edition I got on my Kindle might have been corrected. Not so. I only made it 3 pages in before deleting, I'm afraid. I'm a stickler for proper grammar and spelling and this had neither. Sadly it makes it unreadable for me. Other reviewers on Amazon persisted but I couldn't.
Stuart Rimmer

At times not very well written, with grammatical errors and some untenable plot developments. However, set mostly in the Victorian era and mining the Spring Heeled Jack myth, it is often entertaining and, every now and again, compelling. This type of thing is done far better by others (see Mark Hodder's Spring Heeled Jack novel, or, for richly drawn Victorian macabre, Dan Simmons' 'Drood').
