This book is hard to review and I won't give it any raiting, because it's a good and solid book per se, but I haven't been satisfied with the MC's relationship.

Maybe it's just not my cup of tea, but I couldn't connect with Nate. I immediately loved Jasper - he's great - but I didn't get Nate at all.

The beginning was great and promising, but then for the 2/3 of the book Nate'd continued pining for Peter, Jasper retired and then suddenly Nate realised, that he's in love with J More...

Jasper has been working at Madame Delacroix’s brothel where he has been catering to men for a decade. Most of these men are fat and bloated and ones Jasper hates servicing. But her has made a good living off of being a prostitute and has a nice, tidy savings to help him retire to the country even though he’s not even thirty. He has one client he enjoys being with–Nathaniel Travers, who always asks for Jasper whenever he visits the brothel. Nathaniel has been a client of Jasper’s for five years. More...

I liked this one, but didn't love it.

The sexytimes were intense and hot, and the angst of unrequited love (the prostitute for the client, but the client for his straight and clueless best friend) was palpable. I had a hard time getting on board with the resolution, wherein the client, Nate, just "realizes" that Jasper is the one he wants, after all. One part I found rather comical (in an unfortunate way) occurred when Jasper said one of the things he most admired about Nate More...

Favorite Quote: “I shall miss you.” More than you shall ever know.

Jasper has been serving Nate at Madame Delacroix’s brothel for the past five years. Nate has been a little bit of a different client for Jasper. He doesn’t demand sex right away. They share conversations, sometimes a meal. Jasper knows the intimate details of Nate’s life, and has to remind himself that this is not love they share between each other – only lust and pound notes. This isn’t the only way Nate is different More...

I like Ava March’s work. I can’t help it. I don’t know her, and I don’t like BDSM as a rule, but there’s something about March’s writing of the subject that gets under my skin and makes it tingle.

This is no exception, and I can say hand on heart that if you liked her other work, you won’t be disappointed with this.

It’s a tart-with-a-heart story. Jasper is a whore of ten years, a man who already has enough money to set himself up in a decent house and retire, but he hasn’t More...

I absolutely loved this book. I haven't read a historical in quite some time. The reason for this is whenever I'd start one, it wouldn't hold my attention long enough to get far in the book but since I absolutely love books with unrequited love, I decided to give this one a shot. I'm glad I did because I was riveted throughout the whole story.

Jasper and Nate have known each other for five years, ever since Nate came to the brothel to fulfill a desire he couldn't get satisfaction fro More...

First of all, I like Ava March books, which is why I bought this. She's never let me down, though I often think the books should be some much longer/ more in depth for the amount of money I paid. And as far as her books go, this one is longer than most.

BUT. As beautiful as her writing is. As much as I love her characters. As much as I feel she weaves a brilliant story that has me hooked -- I swear to God, I'm taking a stand that I will not overpay for a damn book of hers again.

This was a good read. It's got a prostitute hero, and the other hero (since this is M/M) is his client, which is an awesome setup for me. The sex was hot and the angst was there. It was really interesting that the prostitute didn't have a particularly troubled past, just very poor and neglected, but didn't seem really worse for the wear. He seemed to have a decent view of his own self worth, despite obviously being aware of his status in society. In fact, the "tortured" one of the pair More...

Jasper is a prostitute at Madame Delacroix’s brothel serving the needs of clientele that not only prefer the company of men but also those with more eccentric tastes in the bedroom. But Jasper looks forward to his time with one client in particular. During the time he has worked at the brothel Jasper has developed a fondness for Nate. Nate has confided in him over the years and as a result Jasper has come to think of Nate as a friend and has even secretly fallen in love with him. However he is f More...

This novella length story was very interesting. Jasper Reed is a male prostitute that has been working for nearly a decade. He has saved enough money to retire and could have done so 2 years ago, but he has continued to work because he has been in love with one of his clients, Nate Travers. In a society where sodomy can literally be the death of you, Nate has discreetly visited Jasper for 5 years even though Nate has been in love with his best friend, Peter Edmonton, his entire life.

I admit most historicals bore me somewhat, even m/m historicals. They are so stuck on details I don't care about or they want to push forth the fact that people didn't bathe frequently so they wouldn't have oral sex and blah blah blah. I've read enough of those to turn me off the genre.

Until I discovered Ava March's gay historicals (and yes, before someone comes after me with a pitchfork there are probably others, now, too).

I read gay fiction, in particular gay romance, More...

Jasper Reed was born without proper parentage. Work as a prostitute within a renowned brothel, the most adequate option for an 1800’s English bastard. However, poor parentage does not stop even a courtesan from falling in love.

Nathaniel Travers’ heartbroken over his best friend’s pending marriage; having fallen in love with him who is definitely heterosexual. Spending time with a fallen man does not ease the painful loss of his best friend and unrequited lover. Making matters worse, More...

3.5 stars. I loved the beginning of this story: loved the brothel, the setting, the protagonists, the idea of a prostitute in love with his client. The corset and rouge made for a great sex scene. As in her other m/m regency novellas, Ava March vividly depicts that world but her stories feel at times rushed and rely too heavily on telling. For some reason I find it still works for me. I think I just would like longer stories from her. Some details in this story jarred me a little (“100 percent m More...

It was a sweet story although it does resemble her "Bound" series in terms of angst and lack of communication leading to misunderstandings. The only things I had a problem with was Nate's quick switch of affections from Peter to Jasper and how quickly Jasper came to realise his long held dream was actually going to become reality.

But I very much enjoyed the first half where both Nate and Jasper took turns to voice out their torments and misplaced hopes. And how skillfully t More...

The cover is hot, but I'm not judging the book by its cover.

I like m/m historicals. I know that the couple will never be able to show to the world that they are in love and that there's always the danger they'll be hanged. But the historical setting creates a whole different atmosphere with candle lights, the fire place, the layers of clothes. I like Ava March's stories of unrequited love and her characters with their kinks. I could read all the variations of her stories book after b More...

So satisfying. A lovely romance between a viscount's nephew and a male prostitute set in the regency era. It manages to not gloss over the issues facing a gay relationship while resisting the urge to wallow in the angst of sex-for-pay and fear of the hangman.
The classic triangle of A loves B, but B loves C, is finely drawn and though I occasionally wanted to give someone a good kick in the pants, I never felt the characters were stupidly stubborn, just heartbreakingly blind.

Another masterpiece by the Ms March. This one did not make me cry (again, only Oli and Vinny) but my heart did shatter into thousands of pieces. But then some sticky tape fixed that.

Loved the characters, but I did not like the way Nate just suddenly came to the conclusion that he loved Jasper. Wanted a bit more with that.
But still, amazing

I'm not one for historical romances myself, but this book was amazing enough to make me give the genre a second chance. That is, after I read all Ms March wrote.

Thanks Ivan for the rec, your review made me take a chance on this book, and I'm glad I did. The story was very soulful.

It is simply my favourite regency historical MM romance. It is well written, the characters are amazing, their chemistry is incredible, the story is beautiful, the sex is great, and I could go on and on and on... It is a great book. Keeper. In my opinion, the best of Ava March's books.

Very good kinky Regency m/m romance about a prostitute who's had enough to retire for a while, but stays on at the brothel because he's fallen in love with one of his clients - a client who's been pining for his straight best friend since they were at university together.

Another winner from Ava March. I won't rehash the story, it's been done many times here, but I will say, the characters are charming, the story different and extremely well written. I'm a fan, and Ava knows it. Well done, I look forward to more from you.

Just loved this historical. Jasper, a whore at Delacroixs, has enough to retire, yet stays for the opportunity to continue to see Nate, nephew to a viscount and object of Jasper's unrequited love. Nate loves another, and Jasper is always there for him. Jasper listens, supports, cares and satisfies, hoping for love in return yet knowing they are worlds apart. He is so sweet, so heart breaking.

I'm a sucker for rentboy stories - especially when there's a bit of crossdressing and light BDSM thrown in. The sex was sizzling and the characters had great chemistry. I couldn't help wishing for just a little more world-building around the secondary characters - many of whom are just mentioned rather than being fleshed out. Still, that would have made it a very different kind of story. Here the focus is very much on the erotica, although with plenty of emotional turmoil to spice things up.
