Well Jammee does her sister's name is Darcy and she is really smart and all of Jamee's teachers tell Jamee why cant you be as smart as youre sister. This book is Realistic Fiction because this can happen to anybody.I tought this book was okay because i like books with alot of action in them and this book was about how Jamee was getting bad grades and her sister Darcy alway...more

The novel Pretty Ugly is mainly about Jamee Willis a student at Bluford High School, who is struggling with friend, family, and school work issues. Her parents seem to not want to listen to her because they are so caught up in her older sister Darcy's college plans, and all this college talk is really irritating Jamee. At school her grades are falling apart because cheerleading tryouts are coming soon and Jamee wants to be a Bluford cheerleader, but she also needs to retake a math test she failed so th...more

In this book Pretty Ugly this is Jamee's freshmen at Bluford High. Jamee is feeling good about this year and is coming into the year confidently. She didn't really know that when she was in the middle school she did things that gave her a bad reputation, like kissed a boy she did not know and went out with Bobby Wallace, a student that wasn't liked. Since her big sister went to this school, a lot of people know Jamee because of her sister Darcy. Darcy had a good reputation so everyone is expecti...more
This book is about a freshman in Bluford High School named Jamee. Living in the shadow of Darcy Wills, her sister (Junior) she has to find a way to be noticed and stop being associated with her sister, and the only way to do that is to join the cheerleading team (the one thing that Darcy cant compete with her in). Jamee joins with her friends and meets a new girl named Angel. Angel is a weak girl who everyone likes to pick on (your typical high school story). As the story goes on Jamee becomes f...more

I didnt really like how at the beginning they talked about cheerleading which seemed like went on for forever.I would have to say that I would of been like Jamee in this book. When it came to Angel and all. There is always rumors going around about someone in high school or someone getting picked on and someone needs to do something about it. In this book I can understand how Jamee could get tired of being compared all the time but I think she was out of line at the end of Ch. 6. As far as there...more

This book was a good book because it showed a perspective of how people feel when they are being bullied and how people watched can help.
Jamee Wills doesn't like how the popular girl, Vanessa Pierce and her cronies treat a shy girl named Angel McAllister. The popular girls, Jamee , and Angel all try out for cheer leading but the things the girls say discourage Angel which makes Jamee decide to become friends with her. When Vanessa notices Jamee hanging out with Angel they begin to pick on her a...more

This is your basic girl drama clique book. Pretty Ugly is filled with all the normal teen drama and challenges you face through high school. Even though I have yet to reach high school I feel like all teenagers boys and girl can relate to the situations just in different ways. Pretty Ugly has girls who run the school and the main girl that everybody wants to be. Also it has that theme that if u want to fit in with the popular girls you have to follow the leader and the pact. There is tons of reve...more

I think this book teaches a very good lesson to people that doesn't listen to others and only care about the bad things that are happening. Jamee had always been compared to her sister, Darcy because Darcy is always into work and Jamee has bad grades a year long and doesn't do anything about it. She fails a math test but she doesn't retake it because she wants to be nice and help out a friend in her cheerleading squad. Jamee is conceded about her friend, Angel alone in the team. Angel thought of...more

Book Review

Do you think that bullying is OK? Karyn Langhorne Folan, the author of Pretty Ugly, puts Angel McAllister in a very horrible situation. Jamee Wills is the only one that can stop it. When Jamee tries out for cheerleading is when all the trouble begins. Angel is a very shy girl who is pretty, wears geeky glasses, and most of all, an easy target for Vanessa Pierce. Vanessa is one of those girls who think she has control of everything and by being mean to others will make her popular. T...more

Rating** Pretty Ugly is the latest installment of the Bluford series. I wanted to find out what the modern day high school girl is reading so I picked this book up. Pretty Ugly is about bullying, sibling rivalry, and cheerleading, and is definitely geared toward the contemporary urban reader. I found this book to be moderately entertaining, but believed it to have ve...more

Pretty ugly was by far an awesome book that I ever read. There are lots of stories that I can relate to in high school and middle. It was like I was very popular at every school I went to but I always had that jealous girl on my back.
‘’When I saw this book ‘’I just knew I was going like it because a lot of the things happen in this book related to me.
In this story there was a girl named Jamie Wills and she was becoming a freshmen at Blue Ford high school were her big sister Darcy attended to. Al...more
What I liked about this book was that it has interesting things in it and its realistic fiction so some of the things in this story you can relate to because it helps you deal with your problems . It also gives you real ideas about being in high school and how serious high school is. that a good thing because you get a heads up about all the activities their and the classes. This book is just like all the other books but with new characters in each story .
I would recommend this book to my frie...more
1) I liked this book because it was full of action and dialoge. They say all the dialoge and describe the action. For example, on page 64, they write out everything that people say.Another example is on page 135, they explain with details what people are doing.

2) You would like this book if you like action, dialoge, and drama. You would like this book if you like action, drama, or dialoge because this book is full of crazy drama and lots of action. For example, there is one of the pages where they wri...more

My fellow English teachers have been telling me how great the Bluford series is for our students for the last few years, but I've never really gotten the chance to sit down and read any of them until now. I got this one for free at a teaching event last fall, and after reading it, I can see why the students like them. The girls in this book sound just like some of the girls I've had over the years in names, actions, and speech, so realism is a high plus in the Bluford series.

In this book, Jamee...more
The thing I love about Bluford High is that they're easy reads that don't take too long, but yet they still carry a message. I liked the message put into this one about standing up for others, no matter the consequences.

I honestly felt bad for Jamee, though I didn't appreciate her avoidance of school work, it did seem unfair that she was always being compared to her sister.
This book series it geared toward high school readers with elementary level reading skills.

Pretty Ugly does a great job of addressing issues common to most teenagers including academic pressure, family conflict, and bullying. Written in 2011, it's main focus is on cyber bullying and does a good job of showing the conflicting feelings surrounding honesty vs. tattling.

In a nutshell: The main character Jamee gets herself in deep with mean girl Vanessa when she stands up for new girl Angel. All of the girls are trying out for the school’s cheerleading squad and the behavior goes from mean to downright ugly when Vanessa tries everything to make Jamee pay for not following the crowd and picking on Angel.

I really enjoyed this book because it was realistic and entertaining. Jamee didn’t choose to snit...more
I don't really think much about this book because I just started reading it. But I think this book would be interesting because of what I read in the back and a few pages of the book. I see that this book was talking about how a girl is new in Bluford High School and people were bothering her. So, one of the friends of the people that was bothering the new girl, was helping her and trying to make other people stop bothering the new girl. Then, through out the year everyone had made rumors and se...more

The book Pretty Ugly is verry good I liked it because its about Jamee who is Darcy's little sister and when jamee came to bluford hight school she thoght it would be fun to have everybody that was older come up to her and ask her if she was darcy's little sister, but it got old really fast even with the teacher's.

she wanted to become a cheerleader but it was hard for her because she had a lot of hard times with her school work and trubles at home with her family because they would always be wor...more

some girls in school can be down right nasty. It is proven in this book. I feel so bad for the main characters who have done absolutely nothing but try to fit in doing something they love!!

This was a good little read. I could connect to the problems and the character. I feel like it could have been better and more detailed, though.

i think anybody can relate to this, because it is based on every day lives. because you can find bullies or get bully anywhere you go. especially at school you see many people are getting bullied or you can happen to be the victim. it can either be physically, verbally, etc... just like jamee had stuck up for angel that was getting bullied, i think it should be that way in real life. i'm not saying you have to, but it would be the best thing to do, or you could tell someone you really trustb or...more
