The Fall
by
Marie Force (Goodreads Author)
Dr. Ted Duffy has finally met a woman who makes him ache with desire. Too bad she’s dating his best friend of twenty years. This simple premise has momentous consequences for Ted in “The Fall,” a story that explores the bonds of friendship, the expectations of family, and the power of love to unite and divide. Ted is a third-generation pediatric oncologist in Boston. He is...more

I’m speechless. Actually speechless and I can’t remember the last time it happened to me after finishing a book.
There was so much going on in this story I could never do it justice no matter how long or detailed the review, so I’ll keep it simple.
This was a complex story of long friendships being broken because of an act out-of-character, of trust toppling when someone does something unexpected, of bonds made in a blink of an eye, of “survivor’s guilt”, of wondering how something good can be bor...more

It's not that the writing in this book was bad, but I found all the characters' behavior so repugnant in this book that I really found it hard to enjoy the novel. I usually try not to rate a book based on my dislike/like of a character's actions, but it was hard with this book because I didn't find anything remotely 'romantic' about this romance. Icky. Definitely a love triangle that I did not like, and that is a first for me. Most of the time, I just wanted to slap some sense into the love bird...more
Whilst I really liked this book, I didn't love it as I have many others by Marie Force. Don't get me wrong, it's written to her usually high standard, the story stirs your emotions, the locations are beautifully descriptive, the story line is there and it has some good steamy moments, I just didn't fall in love with the characters as I usually do.

I love Marie Force. She is one of my favorite romance authors. She yet again wrote another good story. Not a great one, but it was still good. I love her writing because she always does a great job of capturing romance. She draws you into the story. I'm not crazy about Ted and Caroline. They seem to fall to easily in love. I know that people believe in love at first sight. Are you sure you can say you love someone after really knowing them for all of 5 minutes?

The Fall was a great story of love, heartbreak, fighting for what you believe in, and finding your happily ever after. While I extremely enjoyed this book I couldn't give it anymore than 3 starts because of the ending. It was a great story of true love and what the hero and heroine had to fight for and lose because they fell in love, I found myself engrossed with their story, what was going to happen next, would he regret what happened between them, would they be able to overcome everything that...more
I have no idea how a book that had such a promising premise and a great set up derailed so incredibly for me as I was reading. And 'derailed' is a good term because I felt like I was 'reading' a slo-mo trainwreck. That sounds hyperbolic and I don't mean it to be. But the story just started to unravel in so many ways for me that until the end I did not like, in any way, a single character in this book.

I really enjoyed this book and I am not sure why. It wasn't because the characters were likable, because I didn't like them in the least, and it didn't matter to me if the future worked out for them or left them alone and flat on their faces, because I really didn't care about them and felt they deserved whatever consequences they faced. Too bad the people they stomped all over did not deserve to face those consequences. However, the characters, although unsympathetic, were so very real--just fa...more
I really did enjoy this book. Talk about a page turner and a much different book from Marie than I expected.
The broken friendships and the death of a loved one takes Ted to the brink. I found it odd that he just gave up. It was as if he was saying you are all right. She is not worth it... I am not worth it ... we are not worth it... so I am going to run away. I really did not like the way Mitzi seemed to side with Smitty over her own son... that was just wrong. It would have been nice if Lilian...more

I honestly don't know what to say...I just finished this book and LOVED IT. It was so emotional. I have never felt like this after reading a book...ever, not even from books of my long time favorite authors.
There was so much emotional drama in this book that there were parts I felt like I was the one that it was happening to. I was reading it at one point today and felt ashamed...not because of reading the book but because there was a part in the book the characters were going through such an e...more

My emotions were all over the place during this book. I can't remember reading a book where I wanted the lead couple to get together and at the same time was mad at them for getting together. Some authors take the easy way out when creating a "falling for my best friend's girlfriend" theme by making the best friend a jerk, but Marie Force made the best friend, Smitty, such a likeable and good man; I didn't want him to get hurt because of Ted and Caroline's relationship. It was not easy watching...more
This is the second book I have read from Force. The first book was the Wreck which I absolutely LOVED! Unfortunately, The Fall fell flat for me. I could see how some readers would absolutely love this book because the story line definitely had promise. However, 3 out of 4 friends literally jumped into the first date saying I Love you within minutes. I understand fate, love at first sight, kismet, etc. but really Ted and Caroline? Dropping everything and hurting alot of people after having a conv...more
You are bound to find a few cliche's in this book two that instantly come to mind and seem to suit this novel. "Everything happens for a reason and Love at first sight"
If you believe in the above then you will not doubt LOVE this book. If you think this is hog wash then you may want to pass on this love story.
I just loved that this story centered around a group of Best Friends best Male Friends!!! The way Force writes this gang seems very real and we grow to love the tight knit circle.

Was this story amazing?...YES! Did I love it?...not part of it. I rated it 5 stars because I am so glad I read it and it really got me... at least starting half way through the book, I cried and cried and I cried. I am not much of a crier either, I get choked up, maybe a tear in my eye, but not sob, I sobbed. I don't think I should go into much detail because it would just spoil it. There were many heartbreaking themes that affected friendships, family, and deep love.

Its been a while since I read this book but I remember it vividly when I see the cover. I think it was the first Marie Force book I read. I really enjoyed seeing the main character struggling with doing the right thing compared with his feelings. I know it was a struggle for all of them, and I thought it was realistic how each explored their feelings about what happened. In the end I think it was the right choice for everyone and the "happy ending" that everyone needed was achieved and the strug...more
The other books that I've read of this author's, I really enjoyed. While I was looking forward to reading this story because of the premise (hero falls for his best friend's girlfriend), it turned out to be painful to read through to the end.
While I can understand the need for the angst and turmoil that happened, it got to a point that I really did not want to finish the book. The happily ever after ending fell flat for me.
Well, I guess you win some and lose some.

I love this author's writing style but I had problems with the love triangle portrayed. I think Ted and Caroline should have behaved with more honor and dignity, there is a way to handle these situations with more grace. By their selfishness, they hurt their families, their friends, and ended hurting their relationship too. I loved the secondary characters, especially Smitty who behaved with more humanity than the other guys.
A 4.5 stars!!! First off - I ADORE Marie Force. This is the last of her books that I hadn't yet read. She is a must read for me. I think I cried more reading this book than any I can remember. Very emotional writing, wonderful characters, complex page turning story of relationships between friends, families and lovers. Gotta say I almost gave up on Ted in the last few chapters before he redeemed himself with Caroline. And it’s usually the female leads in a story I want to smack a little sense in...more
I have mixed emotions with regards this novel. I felt like i'm on an emotional whirlwind. I can honestly say that i love the resilience of Caroline, one of the main characters. I love how she stayed until the end. I was frustrated for the both of them (Ted and Caroline) at first, but well, everything worked out fine.
The story which revolved on Love, Friendship and Family really got to me.

I didn't think I was going to like this book as much as The Wreck when I initially started reading it. At the end, I think I liked it more than the Wreck. This book, like the Wreck, kept my attention and I read it in just a few days. The relationships in this book, although difficult, were enticing!
Normally Marie's books do a better job at building the romance. This one was a bit too much love at first sight. There just wasn't enough there to explain them being willing to betray their friends for it. Then after all the fighting, I really wanted to smack Ted in the end! I still liked the book, I just didn't love it.
I have only recently discovered Marie Force and read this book while anxiously awaiting the next in the Fatal series and Gansett Island series. While I liked this book, I didn't fall in love with the characters the way I do with her other books. I had a hard time connecting to Caroline and Ted and had a hard time wrapping my head around how fast things happened for them.
