I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

Ugh. Slogging through this collection of poems was depressing and confusing and utterly exhausting. All of the poetry in the book revolves around some variation on the same theme, which is that all of mankind (except the author himself, of course) has become shallow and depraved and coarse and materialistic and oblivious to the depth of soul and beauty of nature that the Creator(s) initially intended. I don't know what to say. I love poetry for the sounds, the rhythm, the rhymes, the ideas. And I did not find anything here. It is just prose, not poetry for me, and not about very interesting ideas. Where are Rimbaud, Rilke, Blake, and so many others? If this is poetry, I'm sorry not to be able to get it.
