The romance part of this rom-suspense novel was excellent, evenly balanced with the suspense all the way through. As always Christy Reece solidly delivers in bk 7 of the LCR series. I have been a fan of the LCR (Last Chance Rescue) series since it first arrived on the book shelves. All of Christy's books are filled with hope, love and loss and Sweet Justice was no different. I loved getting to know Seth and Honor and also getting to revisit some of our past friends from LCR as well as becoming better acquainted with some of the newer members. Sweet Justice is amazing! I couldn't put it down! The villian is soooo BAD! I was cheering for him to meet a slow painful end. The relationship between Honor and Seth had my emotions all over the place. At times it was sweet and at times had me in tears.

My Take
This is just sick. The romance angle was sweet, but the religious end was just disgusting.

What jerks! Seth's family suddenly needs his "sleazy" contacts, so now they're willing to talk to him? Sure, I can understand their anger, but look at what he accomplished. They should be considering what he's had to go through as well. It wasn't easy for him then. Or now.

Nor has he forgotten Honor. And now, being side by side with this woman again, old feelings resurface. But surrounded in the face of danger, rebuilding their relationship is the last thing he should be thinking about.

Sweet Justice is dark, gritty, and intense. The villains are pure evil. Ms. Reece uses masterful skill to create such a depth. There's no holding back. I must warn you this book isn't for the faint of heart. There are scenes in this novel that made me cringe and wince, but the fast paced adventure keeps building and building until the explosive climax of the book.

The reader is taken on a journey through many places, including a place called Tranquility, which frankly, is anything but. The unspeakable acts that go on there are anyone's worst nightmare. This is where the LCR team comes in handy. But there's a price to be paid to stop these people. I sat, biting my nails and eyes glued to the pages and I just had to keep reading.

If you want an edgy suspense novel, Sweet Justice is it. And if you haven't picked up other novels in this series, there are plenty before this, and there will be more released in the coming months.

Now, his case is over but he's no longer the same, he has been in the filth too long, his family and the closeness they shared can never be re-captured despite them knowing the truth now. He still thinks about Honor but doesn't regret what he did, then he gets a call, his niece is missing and as it turns out that leads him to LCR, Honor and missing women.

Honor doesn't know what to make of Seth's appearance, for her peace of mind she never followed what happened with him. He broke her heart but she sees the trust Noah (LCR owner)has in him, they start working together and the truth comes out but Honor is not willing to put her heart on the line again and forgive, Seth should have given her a chance.

The attraction sparkles between and Christy sure knows how to give us sizzling scenes, angst and tension. Seth has suffered and knows he is not the same man anymore.

I loved seeing these two find their way to each other and the suspense part was really good. I despised the really creepy cult leader who thought he was God and tried to mould women.

The next book is something I am really looking forward to since it is Jamie's. But do read Christy's books, they have a perfect blend of romance, suspense and sizzling characters.

Good book. The LCR stories have a fairly rigid formula; but they are still better than most of the RS being written today. This story spent just a little more time with the bad guy than I cared for; I'm more into the solving of the crime than getting in the villains head.

I enjoyed this as a reunion romance; neither Seth nor Honor has ever gotten over the other, but there’s a lot of pain and mistrust they need to work through before they can truly be together. Their feelings for each other are essential to the plot, especially at one point when Honor is in terrible danger: “Though the room was dark, Honor closed her eyes and thought about Seth... Keeping him at the forefront, she knew without a doubt, she could survive whatever these monsters threw at her. Seth would be her light in the darkness.”

I also liked that, despite a premise in which women are inherently victimized, there are portrayals of strong women in the story, and Honor is no helplessly waiting for rescue by Seth.

The rest of the book didn’t work as well for me. The villains here are seriously upsetting: incestuous, sadistic murderers and rapists. Their operation is not very plausible but more importantly, I didn’t feel the story had enough emotional depth to balance out how truly sickening they are. (The details aren’t graphic but still, this is not for the squeamish.) Another downside was that several interesting threads just peter out. There was what seemed to be an interesting subplot in which one member of the LCR team becomes obsessed with one of the missing women, a plain, shy girl who no one had noticed missing for weeks. This was then abruptly dropped. We see one of the more resourceful kidnapped girls escaping and follow her adventures for awhile. Then this too is dropped.

This is 7th in the overall series and the first in the 3rd three book set. I haven’t read any of the others, but didn’t feel at all lost. I enjoyed it enough to give the author another try, though if meglomaniac evil villains are a recurring theme, she's probably not for me.

I also like Seth, but that's because we are privy to what is going on and to why he is breaking Honor's heart. Part of the reader will dislike him, but most of the reader will understand. Seth is really a good guy who is trying to do right and it just ends up being a bad situation. Love always seems to find you when you aren't looking for it and that's what happened to Seth.

Fast forward to several years later and that's when the meat of the story really starts. Honor is working for Last Chance Rescue (LCR) which Ms. Reece has written about in earlier books, but as far as I could tell this book stood alone quite well and this book is actually the start of a new trilogy. I think there are some mentions of several married couples in the LCR and I assume they are couples from earlier books, but I didn't feel like I was missing anything by starting with this book. So Honor is working with LCR and Seth's niece has gone missing and they have exhausted all the normal modes of trying to find her so Seth goes to LCR. Of course Honor is assigned to the case and works closely with Seth. There is great tension between them, but they also work very well together bouncing ideas and working to solve the case with other LCR operatives. So there is much more to the book than just them rekindling their romance. But of course they do rekindle, but not without bumps along they way. I like the approach of the seasoned romance, they didn't have to get to know each other. They had dated for awhile when Seth left her.

The kidnapping plot was great, I like how Ms. Reece made it into a greater plot and gave us a glimpse into the bad guys as well. And the bad guys are quite evil. One thing I really like too is even though the bad guys are quite evil, she gives us a glimpse but never goes into great detail so we aren't haunted by what is going on. We know it's bad, but we don't have to deal with really bad imagery and I appreciate that. I like my romantic suspense gritty, but not too gritty and I think Ms. Reece truly understands the line not to cross. She really builds up the suspense even though we know they bad guy. We are left wondering if Seth and Honor will figure it out, will they catch them and is Seth's niece okay. Trust me when I say there is plenty of suspense to keep you turning pages in this book.

In the end, I have a new name to add to my list of great romantic suspense authors and a ready made backlist to go through as well. I can't wait to see what's in store for me with Rescue Me, Return to Me, Run to Me, No Chance, Second Chance and Last Chance. And then there is Sweet Revenge coming in October which will be a must-read for me and Sweet Reward in December which is even more of a must-read because it will feature Jared who was in Sweet Justice and was the mystery man that I want to know more about.

Within that genre, there are several really amazing authors, but I don't think that there is anyone that consistently delivers emotion, suspense, and fantastic reading than Christy Reece. This book was no disappointment. It was amazing!

Honor is an FBI agent who has made an appearance in several Last Chance Rescue (LCR) novels. Five years ago, she was a rookie FBI agent when she met Seth. At the time, Seth was a restaurant owner who had quit his career as a police officer and was maintaining several questionable acquaintances within his restaurant business. This book opens with him being charged and arrested for murder.

What's never up for debate, as a reader, is how much Seth loves Honor. Quickly within the story, he breaks up with Honor, but he is doing that to protect her, because he is actually deep undercover in a case that is going to take years to resolve. His mistake was ever allowing himself to get involved with Honor, when he knew that he would never be able to pursue a true relationship.

Now it's 5 years later. Seth's case is finally complete (it took much longer than anyone ever expected) and now he is at loose ends after alienating everyone in his life throughout his undercover existence. But his 20 yo niece has disappeared and his family comes to him for help which leads him to LCR where Honor is now an operative, unbeknownst to him. As the lead operative on this case, Honor soon finds herself working very closely with Seth.

Honor is surprised, but not shocked, to find out that Seth was actually undercover all those years. She is even really empathetic to all that he gave up for that mission. What she can't forgive is that Seth knew what was happening in his life, but he allowed Honor to fall for him anyway...KNOWING that ultimately, they could not have a relationship and that he would break her heart. She can't forgive or forget that.

This is truly a heartbreaking story in that there is no right or wrong. Maybe Seth should never have given into his attraction to Honor, but then this love story would NEVER have happened. What is that saying, "It's better to have loved and to have lost, then to have never loved at all." He was in a no-win, ultimate sacrifice situation. He couldn't and didn't resist the allure of simply getting to know Honor although he knew that it could never end well. They both suffered immensely for that.

It is such a good book, and I will be honest...I bawled hard enough through sections of the story that it gave me a headache for the rest of the day. But there is something about a book that moves you to that extreme...So emotional and so moving.

The other thing that Christy does amazingly is create truly evil bad guys and I can't imagine that she will ever top this "bad guy"...OMG! Truly evil and horrific, especially considering how long he has gotten away with this behavior.

If you're looking for a romance book with a Criminal Minds feel, pick up Sweet Justice. The story begins with Honor and Seth's loving relationship. We get to read about their love for one another, watch an emotional break up and see the motivation for that separation. It all makes sense and helps when their story picks up five years later.

Seth is his family's last chance at finding his missing niece. He discovers a pattern of missing women while searching for her, but he needs help. That's where Last Chance Rescue comes in. With the company's assistance, he is hoping to bring his niece home. It's also the last place he expected to see his former lover Honor. Their non-relationship quietly turns into friendship as the couple rebuilds trust in one another and eventually it progresses into full-blown love. It's not that either fell out of love, simply that they are willing to acknowledge and share love together. They have hope of a happily ever after, something neither of them expected. I've got to admit that their story was the least of my cares.

I understand Honor's reason for being upset, but she took it to another level. Seth did his job and she was upset that she didn't have any input in the decisions he made. In the end, I didn't care if Seth and Honor hooked up because I was firmly invested in finding out what was going on with the cult. As details about the cult became clear, I dreaded and looked forward to reading more about it. The sadist leader, his children, his victims and his followers were equally fascinating. I actually would have enjoyed knowing more about them, especially after it was brought down. However, Sweet Justice is a romance focused upon the hero and heroine. Everything is about pushing them closer together.

Sweet Justice is told in the third person POV and flutters around following different people. Sometimes we are watching events from Honor and Seth's eyes, while other times we see things from the psycho/sadist's POV. There are other POVs as well. I haven't read many of the Last Chance Rescue novels, but some characters from previous books make appearances in Sweet Justice. I wasn't distracted, but I think those familiar with past characters will enjoy the short cameos and updated information give about members of Last Chance Rescue.

I thoroughly enjoyed the suspense in Sweet Justice. It was enthralling and more important to me than the romance. Warning: Some readers will not enjoy the references to incest and the descriptions of torture which are vital to parts of the story.

Sweet Justice was a thrilling ride into the lives of men and women of both honor and strength who rescue those around the world who seemly have no chance. The 7th book in the LCR series is about Seth and Honor, two people who are determined to let the past rest but are unable to more forward from it. Being so far into the series I was surprised at the ease I was able to pick up this story, as I have never read anything by Christy Reece before. The story was absolutely gripping with a perfect balance of both romance and suspense. Both Honor and Seth were captivating MC’s; Honor is a strong, independent and sensitive woman while Seth is a tough, honorable and sexy alpha male determined to protect those he cares for. He has sacrificed his life, family and love for justice and doesn’t think that anyone could love the man he has had to become. But Honor shows him that he is not only a man worthy of love but so much more then what he was. The romance and reconnection between these two was heart pounding and sizzling, wrought with not only sexual tension but emotional tension as well.

Christy Reece delivers an intriguing plot with chilling villains that gave me goose bumps. This pair has cultivated an intricate, and sickening, plot to rule a cult-like community and end up being probably the vilest villains I have ever read about. The plot was well paced and the suspense intense.

All together Sweet Justice was an incredibly stirring novel and I’m curious about the rest of the Last Chance Rescue gang now!

This was an ok read and had some good parts but overall I was not in love with the story or characters.
Hope and Seth were hot and heavy when Seth breaks it off and goes undercover without telling Hope why.
Five years later Seth is back wanting help finding his niece not knowing Hope worked for the agency.
That is the full background given. 5 yrs and they are right back at it like rabbits but you still have little explanation of what went on in the 5 years and no real life stories to make you...more

I read about this book on someone's book blog (Sorry I can't remember where, I should write this down!) and got interested. When it was offered on NetGalley for review, I grabbed it immediately.
I haven't read anything by Christy Reece before, so I din't know what I was in for. But I wasn't disappointment. I really like her way of writing and after reading this book I will definitely read more of her.

I can finally sit down and post a review on the 7th LCR installment, Sweet Justice.

I honestly don’t know what to say anymore regarding Christy Reece’s LCR series except for the fact that I have loved every single book. I honestly don’t know what to say anymore regarding Christy Reece’s LCR series except for the fact that I have loved every single book. Not only do I love her books, I think she’s just fantastic and one of the few authors on Twitter who replies to my tweets whenever I have something to say. She takes the time to interact with her readers and for that I am very thankful. I will say though that this was one of my favourites.(I think I keep saying this with every book lol) Before I start any series or stand alone book, I trudge through reviews and get others’ perceptions and views. Most times though, they leave me fuming and the reason for this is of course that I don’t agree with a lot of the reviews, once I have actually read the book myself, especially the ones that get so technical, they make me wonder if I am actually reading them in English. Pfft. I do know though that we are all of different opinions and although a lot of readers complain about the villains, do remember that you are reading romantic suspense and should you not be able to face the harsh realities (although this is fiction) of real life – then don’t read romantic suspense. It’s in-your-face descriptive and although it makes me shiver, it provides me with clear mind scenarios – exactly how a villain should affect you. It can't be glossed over and the story wouldn't be the same if we were just told oh, he kidnaps girls and marries them off to men at the compound. Yes it’s fiction, but we all know that these horrific things do happen in real life and if nothing else the author is simply highlighting them and hopefully making you, the reader, more aware of what filth and insanity is out there. Enough ‘ranting’ if that’s how it comes across and on with the review.

Loved Sweet Justice. As I mentioned above, it’s the 7th in the LCR series and still going strong! Right from the beginning Seth Cavanaugh is arrested for the murder of one of Hector Clemmons’ thugs although he didn’t actually do it. He needs to be trusted by Clemmons in order to work with him and then bring him down, hence putting up this front so as to be believed. He’s been dating Honor Stone, an FBI agent, for the past 3 months but decides that their relationship needs to end. Not only does he break her heart but does likewise where his family is concerned. He has no choice but to break all ties because if he doesn’t, then both Honor and his family could be in danger. However, he knew what he was getting into, as prior to starting a relationship with Honor (one he didn’t want but love happens when you aren’t really looking for it) the wheels on this particular undercover operation, had started rolling.

Some 5 years down the line and no longer with the police force, he receives news from his brother that his niece has gone missing. Although Seth still has contacts, they aren’t the sort of contacts that can help him find Kelli. His best option is to hire LCR and insists that he be allowed to work on the case with them. At a meeting called by Noah McCall (the head of LCR), Seth is somewhat surprised and shaken when Honor enters. She is no longer an FBI agent but an LCR operative. Placed into teams, Seth will be working alongside Honor, who has been put in charge of this particular rescue mission, to find Kelli. After much intel/info collecting, it’s decided that not only Kelli, but a number of girls prior to her have been taken and by the same man.

I must say though that this sick/evil/disgusting man is probably one of the worst I have read about. Alden Pike has created/built a place called Tranquillity. It’s along the lines of a commune/cult order and the people within all brainwashed. This is the future or so his perverted mind leads him to believe. It’s so backward minded that it actually gave me goosebumps every time a scene was played out at Tranquillity. Not only do they kidnap young woman so that the men can procreate with, Pike is actually sleeping with his own daughter who is so brainwashed, she has no idea which way is up and I don’t think she will ever have a clue as she’s grown up with ‘evil’ and so the same she became. He is so despicable and mind you, so is she, that when she asks her father permission to kill her own brother, he grants it. He killed his wife as it was time - she didn’t understand the dynamic in his and Tabitha’s relationship. Horrific. The training these young girls are put through to prepare them for the new life that awaits them - which is to serve their men - is so sadistic, I am surprised I didn’t have nightmares about it. For any further insight into this 'Kingdom', you will have to read it yourself.

Despite the horrors, there is also love, eventual understanding and forgiveness within Seth’s family and of course from Honor for what happened in the past and finally the rescue of not only Kelli but the other girls who were kidnapped and forced to lead this life which I constitute as slavery. The taking down of Alden Pike and his world? Awesome. He is so delusional he can’t actually believe that all he has ‘worked’ for is on the brink of ruin. It’s just not possible. He is untouchable. I have no words for this waste of air space. If I were a character in the book, I would have loved to take him down myself – it’s how much I despised him and how much he repelled me! A character that’s very well written Ms. Reece, so much so that he scared me!

Of course Seth and Honor end up together, lovely. I love HEA’s. (I do, can’t help it). Onto the the 8th LCR book hopefully next week which is named Sweet Revenge and then the 9th which was released on 27 December 2011, called Sweet Reward. A double thumbs up from me. (less)

Seth's niece is one of many students who have disappeared from college campuses ranging in ages from late teens to early twenties. After some investigation we soon learn that the young women have been abducted from different states going back over 10 years. After reviewing all the states, they come to the conclusion that Wyoming was the next state the perpetrator would no doubt look for another student. Honor goes undercover with other women operatives dressed as students, in the hope that one of them be taken in order to find missing girls and put an end to this villains operation. He is an evil sadistic individual with a disturbing relationship with his daughter.

As always the emotion in this book is intense. The relationship between Seth and Honor thugs at you heart. Honor understands why Seth did what he did 5 years ago but can she ever forgive and forget. She tries not to give into her need for Seth, but just one touch and these two give into the undeniably chemistry between them. Seth not only lost Honor but his family can't forgive him for not telling them the truth. They believe he was some kind of villain working for a drug lord.

Can never fault the romance in these books. Its Sizzling hot and the characters weather we met them before or not are so compelling you just want to know them better. The suspense action have to say is getting better and better. Truly a wonderful read.(less)

I've heard a lot of good things about Reece's books, and I like the setup -- the slightly mysterious organization that stays in the background and helps good, decent folks during terrible situations. There was a lot to like in this book. There's a good balance between the romance and the suspense, some nice action scenes, and the bad guy and his family are chillingly evil. Seriously, he was really, really creepy.

I thought Honor was a great heroine -- smart, strong, and sassy. She's good at her job and proud of how she helps other people. She came across as very capable, compassionate, and professional. Yes, she's upset with Seth for how he treated her (and rightly so), but she doesn't let it get in the way of finding his niece.

However, I didn't like Seth nearly as much. I know he had to lie to his friends, family, and Honor to protect them, but he was cruel to Honor in the beginning of the book when he breaks things off with her. Plus, there's one scene later on in the book where Seth insists on being by Honor's side, and he does it in a very loud, vocal fashion front of the other LCR operatives that Honor is in charge of. I understand that Seth wants to protect Honor. However, all along he says how brave and capable she is, and then he basically undermines Honor's authority while she's leading the search for his niece. That didn't make me like him any better.

Also, there's a pretty big coincidence at the end of the book. I know it had to happen for the story's sake, but it did seem a little convenient. However, it leads up to an action-packed finale when Honor and Seth finally face down the bad guy.

Overall, this is a solid romantic suspense, and I'm looking forward to reading more books by Reece.(less)
