"Tell me the truth. When you were a kid, did you always color inside the lines?”
"Coloring in the lines is the whole point. That’s why they have lines,” I said.
“That’s where you’re wrong. The lines are there just to hold you in. Like a prison. Think what you might have created if there hadn’t been any lines."

★★★★★ Funny, funny, funny, love it, love it, love it...

So, I must confess that the story itself is not memorable (but it is as sweet as honey.. I mean not that sweet, I don't like honey.....more

The Education of Hailey Kendrick :

Love love love. This is a fast read. I was absolutely in love with this book. Everything about it just pulls you in and is a real problem.

Hailey is tired of being perfect, she wants to shake things up. She does something one night out of anger and hurt and it turns everything she has known upside down. She damages school property and is found in a compromising position with someone other than her boyfriend. Hailey is now shunned, she has hurt the person she nev...more

Hailey Kendrick doses everything that is expected of her. She is president of her school, has an amazing boyfriend, the right friends, she gets amazing grades, and she fallows the rules perfectly. You would think that she wouldn’t do anything horrible, but one night changed her whole life. In the book “The Education of Hailey Kendrick” by Eileen Cook, is an amazing book that shows that no matter how perfect you are, one little thing can ruin your life.
The main conflict in this book is that Hail...more

I picked this up as a fast summer read. We actually moved in the month of June, so it was more about books I could get through quickly in between the packing and unpacking that surrounded our lives. I was simply going for something I could use as a way to relax and not something mind-bending or thought provoking.

Hailey Kendrick has always been the perfect daughter, especially since her mother died. When her father breaks summer plans to spend time with her through email, she goes a little crazy...more

This is the second Eileen Cook book I've read recently and I am starting to become a real fan of hers.
The Education of Hailey Kendrick was an enjoyable read that I completed in a few short hours. Hailey's character was likeable and she was easy to feel sympathy towards.
I wish that Cook has focused on some of the other characters a bit more so I could have developed an opinion of them. However, for the most part, I just felt indifferent to the majority of them. (This was especially true for Jo...more

Eileen Cook's Getting Revenge on Lauren Wood was just really great read, so I was super excited about this one. The Education of Hailey Kendrick starts off quite slow and mediocre, and you're not really sure what to expect at all. One third through though (mostly, when you meet the awesome Drew), I started to really liked it. The story definitely picked up. The character development was definitely there - Hailey really emerged from her meticulous, careful, and boring personali...more

Hailey is so looking forward to finally getting to spend time with her Dad over the summer, but an unexpected job proposition has come up, and he must travel to England to make the deal. Hailey is furious, I mean, he did afterall dump her at a boarding school after her mother died, and hasn't really seen her since she was like 12. Hailey has done everything she could to get her Dad's attention, but it doesn't seem to be working. In a fit of fury, Hailey decides she's had enough of being the good...more

Ever since her mother died in a freak accident while crossing the street, Hailey has been the perfect daughter focusing on never causing trouble and always being safety conscious. Now in her senior year, with the perfect boyfriend, great grades, tons of popularity to keep her company, and college applications on the way, there's really not much bad going on for her.

But bad news often comes like a snowball rolling downhill and Hailey's gotten caught in the...more

Engaging and fun, The Education of Hailey Kendrick is a cute deliver onto a girls’ life trying to be ‘right’ all the time, but being ‘right’ doesn’t mean it’ll make you ‘perfect’. There were many amusing and laugh-out-loud moments, making it a pleasing chick-lit novel.

Cook built the plot line as if it were a ladder – if you get up the top, you’re in most trouble. It was a whirlwind for Hailey… a lot of mischief happens to her. She cheats on her boyfriend, broke a school’s statue, and looses the...more

Ever since her mom was killed by a drunk driver, Hailey has been the perfect child. Part of it is so that her dad will never have to worry about her and part of it is because she now knows just how dangerous life is. Even so, it hasn't meant that their relationship is better. He's sent her to boarding school. Still, though, her life is pretty fantastic. She's got a great best friend and a wonderful boyfriend (the son of movie stars!).

And then it falls apart. Her dad says that the two of them spe...more

This book is amazing, not only does the main character becomes stronger in the end, all the problems that she had were resolved. This character Hailey Kendrick is a realistic character. Not like other books where the characters are in love and a dilemma happens and in the end it is resolved/ This is different.

In the beginning she is popular and smart because she dates the hottest and most popular guy in the school. Everyone loved her!

However, Hailey Kendrick is not the type of girl you think you...more

Hailey Kendrick works hard for her perfect life. It's her senior year at an elite boarding school in Vermont. She's best friends with a popular party girl. She's looking forward to spending the summer after graduation at an internship working alongside her dad, but only after throwing the biggest and best end-of-school party that her even her wealthiest friends have ever seen...

After the death of her mother, Hailey has done her best to be a great daughter for her father. Hailey is an outstanding student with good grades and always followed the rules. She also gained popularity while dating her boyfriend, Tristan, who is the son of Oscar winning celebrities. Although she is an excellent student with a bright future ahead of her, Hailey does her best to please everyone else except herself.

Hailey wants nothing more than to spend the last summer of high school with her fat...more

This book was a bit of a surprise, to be honest. I really didn't expect it to turn out the way it did. The main character Hailey, had a lot of issues involving finding herself, and though she didn't really find herself at the end, she started to.

Any relationships she had changed for the better, and she evolved as a character from a somewhat depressing and almost whiny person to a more likeable person. One of the more interesting relationships was between her and her father, and the impact that...more

Concept/Ideas: 3.5/5

First book by Eileen Cook. I'm impressed. I like that her books always have humour, and they are definitely light reads. I love the covers of all of her books! The idea for this book was intriguing, but nothing really new. Still, I enjoyed it.

Storyline/Plot: 3.5/5

Better in the first half then the second. It kind of dragged a bit in some parts, but overall a fast paced read.

Characters: 3.8/5

I really enjoyed the characters, and they were likable, especially Hailey. Despite...more

I read and liked Eileen Cook's Unravelling Isobel, so I was quite eager to read another one of her contemporaries. However, I have to say that UI was probably the better of the two when compared to this book, because the plot and characters were much more believable and interesting as compared to The Education of Hailey Kendrick. The story itself is quite uninteresting, with the cliched version of "popular girl becomes rebellious and falls in love with a townie" plot. I read that many times in s...more

This book really ended up being a lot of fun. But it wasn't all about the fun only, as poor Hailey is going through a lot. I really, truly 100% felt bad for her. This book really brought out the emotions for me. I felt such anger at her father for letting her down, at her friends for not standing up for her in the beginning and Hailey for letting them get away with it all. She was a truly nice person who was willing to take the fall for something that wasn't all her fault and everyone made her l...more

It was another one of those books where the girl needs a boy to help her figure out who she is in the world. Don't get me wrong, I like when there's an element of romance in books, or dramatic circumstances surrounding love like love triangles and betrayls. But I don't like it when the male love interest in the book ends up being the sole reason that the female character finds her way. I guess I just appreciate a strong more independent character than Hailey was.

I gave it 2 stars because it was...more

This book was a really cute chick lit book, a pretty good page turner! I was somewhere between cheering for Joel and cheering Drew, but Drew was definitely my fav character personality-wise, because he was so funny and always seemed to be there when Hailey needed someone. This was a bit out of my kick-butt action and adventure books, but I enjoyed it pretty well. Most of the characters have room to develop, the writing descriptive and beautifully written.

My only complaints are that some parts co...more

"The Education of Hailey Kendrick" is an amazing book that may have changed my perspective, on boarding school, and how good I have it in life. Hailey Kendrick is a Senior in Vermont at her boarding school. The book is told in 1st person and is fiction. There are three types of conflicts in this story, person vs. person, with Hailey and all of her classmates but Joel, and Kelsi. Person Vs. Society, all of the school is against her, and the rules of the school, she has broken them. Finally Perso...more

I knew from the first sentence I was going to like this book. "There was a matter of life and death to deal with, instead we were wasting our time discussing Mandy Gallaway's crotch."

Hailey has tried to be the perfect daughter & student ever since her mother died in a tragic accident. For me, she was very relatable character: a rule follower, analytical and one who especially likes to stay in her comfort zone...that is until she kisses her boyfriends best bud, has a falling out with her boy...more

4.8!!! I'm going to be honest and say I totally didn't expect this book to be as good as it was. If your reading this review, go get this book and read it. You will not be let down. Oh and also, I love Drew. And Joel. Not so much for Tristan. He's okay I guess.

I really enjoyed this one. The book is about an everyday teen left with unknow decisions abouy boys school and everyday things. After loosing her momt at age 12 she has to live her dad and with her grandparents which makes it hard for her to do the things she want to do as a teenage like having the party of the year. Her dad promises Hailey that she will be able to the party but after her dad taking a job in another country and having Hailey live with her grandparents again, Hailey and her frien...more

Hailey Kendrick is the girl who has it all. She’s popular and pretty, has good grades, comes from a good family, goes to an elite school and has the perfect boyfriend. However, things are never as perfect as they seem. Ever since her mother’s death in a freak accident, Hailey has been trying to live as safely as possible. Although she does her best to be the perfect daughter, nothing she does seems to get the attention of her father, who sent her to boarding school after her mother’s death. When...more

Upon first examination, I expected this book to be "popular-girl" lit - something to make the airheads in high school feel good about themselves. Now that I'm done reading, I'm not sure whether it rose above that expectation or not.
Personally, I enjoyed the book after I got into it - Eileen Cook rushed to introduce the first two male characters, which I normally characterize as a beginner's mistake. That being said, she made the mistake only once, and I found that, thankfully, I did end up conn...more

Since the death of her mother Hailey has tried to be the perfect daughter for her father. She gets good grades, doesn’t get into trouble and does everything by the rules. What she’s most looking forward to is spending the last summer with her father before she leaves for college. But when he suddenly cancels their plans all her pent up frustration is unleashed as she takes out her anger on some school property. The one time Hailey does something bad and she gets caught. Overnight she ends up los...more

2.75. Not quite a 3, but better than a 2.5. Stars are silly things.

I liked this one. It was a one sitting read, and it was funny enough to keep me going. It reminded me a lot Sarah Mlynowski's "Ten Things" in tone and execution. I could definitely see the influence of "The Scarlet Letter," though much less so than it'd been pitched a number of times.

What I disliked tremendously was that the girl only learns to be herself through a boy. That's a trend that can go away any time now. I get the ide...more

I forgot how much I like Eileen Cook's work. I have only read What would Emma Do, and I read it such a while back that I forgot how much her words got to me. Her stories are relevant/current and laugh-out-loud funny. I have so many highlighted quotes from this book, I don't know if I can share them all without telling you the whole story! I also really like how she incorporates a theme/message into the story, without spelling it out to the readers. In this book it was about appreciation and goin...more

“It is a truth universally acknowledged that if you do something embarrassing like fall down the stairs in front of a group of people, you are required to act like you are fine, even if you aren't. Your arm could have a bone jutting out, and you would still try to laugh it off as if everything were hunky dory. This compound fracture? It's nothing! I like to let my bones out of my body once in a while for fresh air. It's good for them. 26 people liked it
