Aunt Severe and the Dragons
Forced to live with eccentric Aunt Severe when his explorer parents vanish, Daniel’s problems only increase when he finds four dragons hiding in a tree in her back garden. Before he can help the lost dragons, three of them get captured by the unscrupulous Gotcha Grabber and thrown into his private zoo. Daniel sets out rescue them, but things get complicated.

This book doesn't have the depth or cleverness to be particularly fulfilling to adult readers, but I think it would make a nice early read-aloud for 4-7 year olds. The plot twists may be fairly predictable, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing for young listeners, who love to feel in command of things. Plus, for them many of the old plot standbys will still be fresh and fun, including the missing parents, the ridiculously strict aunt, the forgotten identities, and the slow-witted bad guys. Daniel has to go live with his aunt after his parents disappear. He refers to his aunt as Aunt Severe because that is how she dresses and acts. One day he finds himself face to face with 4 young dragons who lead him on the adventure of his life.
