This was ok. Another summer read. Not bad. I didn't put it down. I found some characters irritating. Book was lengthy enough, however, that each main character did get sufficient time. Two characters that had irritation with each other was the most annoying part. It's tiresome to read about a guy demeaning a woman over and over again for an immature reason. The book also includes the new popular plot point of the summer (aside from a house where either distant family, friends, or strangers come...more

Hmmmm, funny thing. Ponzi scheme is the theme of the culprit in this book and also in the last book I read, Silver Girl. Weird how that happens. Madoff inspired beach reads???

A great read! Loved Ten Beach Road in so many ways!!! Wow, where do I begin. First and foremost the characters were divine! Loved the rags to riches and back to being homeless; struggles and challenges…can relate is so many ways, as have been involved with corporate America in whistleblowing and other SEC investment firm scams with companies I have worked for in Atlanta and Florida. Have been defrauded by Atlanta company, and lost everything at one point, so there is always a tough climb back! S...more

What Stephanie Thought: Wendy Wax understands the most difficult of dilemmas regarding family, secrets, undying passion, and inner turmoil, and that makes her stand out as a writer. Carefully, she identifies three women with three different concerns and takes readers on a journey that highlights not only on how their problems are solved, but also the struggles the three women go through, in order to get there.

A headlining Ponzi scheme involving Malcom Dyer leaves Maddie, Avery, and Nikki (among...more

Three women. One house. Lots of money down the drain. What's a girl--or three--to do? Renovate!!!

This is a delightful read. The characters are vivid and feel like they could be my friends. The writing flows well and grabbed my attention right away. I read this book in one sitting and with over four hundred pages, that's quite an undertaking. As soon as I started the tale, I had to know what would happen next. Ms. Wax kept me guessing throughout. Every time I thought one thing would happen, the...more

Overall, Ten Beach Road, was the perfect book to go with my "Spring Fever" mentality. Once I got past the whole, "Could that really happen" aspect of these three women getting possession of Ten Beach Road when there were hundreds of others still waiting for their money. The descriptions of the historical mansion was enough to satisfy my daily cravings for house porn and the relationship between the three different women was interesting and unique. I especi...more

Wow! Wendy Wax has earned herself a spot at the top of my awesome authors list! She is a fantabulous author with terrific writing skills. She really blew me away with her characters, her wit, and her plot line. It is wonderful book to get lost in to past a beautiful summer day with!

Imagine this: life is great. Life is everything you wished it to be, with a few minor bumps along the way. Then you get a phone call. A devastating call that tells you you have absolutely no money left, save for a su...more

What might be called a "chick flick" only in books - is the story of three women whose lives have been decimated by a Ponzi scheme. The only thing they have in common is one-third of a mansion on the Gulf Coast in Florida. Strangers to each other - they quickly learn that in order to retrieve some of the cash they need -- they will have to restore the home to its former glory. Each woman comes with her own back story and must learn to live with each other as they spend a long summer doing much o...more

Now that the hot, humid weather has arrived, my thoughts are turning to my summer reading list. As I began scanning my list, one author just grabbed my attention: Wendy Wax. Ms. Wax has been on my “new-to-me” author list for a while. I thought Ten Beach Road would be the perfect way to kick off my summer reading.

In Ten Beach Road, the reader is introduced to three women at various stages of life. First is Madeline. She’s a wife and mother and is looking forward to having an empty nest. Dreams fi...more

Ok, so after looking back, I realize that this book took me quite a while to read. But as I was reading the last two chapters, I also realized just how worth it the book was! What an amazing read. This was the first book I had read of Wendy Wax, and can I just say, I can't wait to read more. She has such a wonderful way of writing that makes you absolutely connect and fall in love with the characters.

In this book you follow the journey of 3 "lost" women, all at very difficult times in their live...more

Excellent novel and my first by Wendy Wax. Definitely scoop this one up this summer and throw it in your beach bag or save it for a rainy weekend cause once you start this one, you won't want to put it down! 3 women's lives are ruined by a major financial scandal and one man, one mastermind was behind it all. Although he's since fled the country, the FBI was able to seize some of his properties and as a result, victims, Maddie, Avery, and Nikki have inherited shared ownership of a mansion in Pas...more

Wendy Wax has an excellent beach read with substance in Ten Beach Road for those of you looking for an end of summer winner. Ripped from the headlines, these three women find that their only remaining asset is a rundown beach house (Bella Flora) in Florida after Malcolm Dyer — aka Bernie Madoff — stole their life savings. Madeline’s life has been flipped upside down when she realizes her investment advising husband not only lost his clients’ money in a giant Ponzi scheme perpetrated by Dyer, but...more

Great storyline. Story moves along nicely. There's three women all involved in restoring a historic home on the beach in Florida. They are thrown together because they are all victims of a ponze scheme that has taken all their money. The women are all very different and form a bond with each other as they toil to help restore the estate. There's some interesting drama and an unexpected twist and ending. The one thing out of place is one relationship between the man who's the contractor and one o...more

If you are an HGTV fan, you will probably find this book hard to put down. A Bernie Maddoff-type swindler makes off with over $300 million in his clients' money. Three of those clients find themselves with only one asset remaining - equal shares in a glorious old Florida beachfront mansion which needs serious restoration, but is an architectural gem. The three women, plus two relatives, move into the wreck, romantically named Bella Flora, and begin the painstaking job of cleaning, repairing and...more

I have a few complaints about this book, but even as I mentally whined about not liking one of the annoying overly emotional main characters, and there being too much detail about the renovation of the house--- which is at the center of the story---I realized that I kept right on reading, and looking forward to my reading time. Today I found myself reading during the day, something I rarely do, and I finally just sat down and finished it. I don't like detailed reviews that give away much of the...more

I found this book to be totally delightful! I recently spent some time in the St. Petersburg, FL area, which is the setting for the story. If you are at all familiar with the area, you will recognize places such as the Paradise Grill, Pass-a-Grille and the Don CeSar Hotel.

The author uses a particular event that affects the circumstances of three women, who are unrelated, but which brings them together in one place at the same time. Wendy Wax explores the lives of the three women and the relatio...more

Three women from very different backgrounds find themselves thrown into a common situation after they all become victims of a Ponzi scheme and lose everything, except for a single rundown beach house in south Florida of which they learn they are co-owners. Knowing this is their only shot to survive, they work together to renovate Bella Flora and get her ready for the market.

I liked this book. It was a simple story- there weren’t any great mysteries to keep me on my toes- but the characters were...more

I'm calling this a two and a half stars for exceeding my very low expectations. So I had to go pick up my sister at work which means waiting around for her, and I had JUST finished a book like five minutes earlier and I had that book panic where I just needed Something To Read, and I grabbed this. I didn't have high hopes, but you know what? For a beach reading book it really wasn't bad! A quick read and actually had some interesting characters. Of course some of them were totally uninteresting...more

I did not enjoy this book. But maybe if you like large doses of drama and women with serious personal issues and all the tension and angst and anguish their baggage brings, with a little bit about home renovation thrown in, then maybe you'll like it better than me. But let me tell you a few things about it before you pick it up thinking the deceivingly fun cover will be a nice, relaxing easy read. Wrong.

It took 29 chapters (yes, that's twenty chapters + another nine) before I felt any of the cha...more

Ten Beach Road has all the hallmarks of a feel good, chick-lit novel. It covers friendship, family, and trust. We watch women building relationships, forming friendships and learning about loyalty. There's a lot of house remodeling drama along the lines of reality television. We have an unwed mother and a celebrity father. We see a marriage stretch, strain and strengthen.

All the parts were there and while it was a nice diversion, it was nothing more. I liked it well enough, I didn't love it. Th...more

I've loved all of Wendy Wax's books but Ten Beach Road lacked the emotion her other books had. The story was great...three women are cheated out of their life savings and have to restore their co-owned beachfront house in order to sell it.

I loved the house the most as it seemed to have a personality of its own. The characters were great. There were a couple of surprises. But the story seemed to drag a little.

This is a good read for those "pick up and read a little" places; While dinner is in th...more

I picked the perfect time to read this book...when the weather gets a bit cooler and I long for the days of summer. The author did a great job creating these characters because I felt a kindred spirit with each one of them. I am a huge fan of strong female women and this story has them tenfold. What struck me the most is that even though they had lost all of their money they were not going to settle for crumbs. They put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into the renovation of the beachfront home...more

It is important to realize that I review and rate books for myself alone. I don't mind anyone else reading them and choosing books based on my likes and dislikes. And although, in some cases (those books that I feel touch the very soul and essence of life) I might almost become radical in my insistence that you read a book, I would never tell you NOT to read a book. The books I don't particular like have everything to do with me - the books that I love have everythi...more

An excellent beach read--induced me to neglect everyone and everything else while I read this cover to cover. Three women from very different backgrounds who have lost their life's saving through an evil investment scheme find that they co-own a dilapidated beach property in FL so they throw in together to get it ready to sell. They aggravate and teach and support each other through a tough summer... that keeps getting tougher... and emerge on the other side wiser, stronger and with each other a...more

Madeline is a suburban mother of two children who have now left the nest. She is all set to begin a new phase of life when she discovers that her husband lost his job and has been keeping it a secret from her for months. Avery and her ex-husband host a “do it yourself” show on HGTV. She’s not happy that she has been reduced to slightly more than a pretty prop, but she’s even less happy when she finds that she’s been fired from the show. Nicole is a matchmaker for the rich and famous, but she has...more

Ten Beach Road takes readers on a journey through the lives of three brilliantly different women: Madeline Singer, Avery Lawford, and Nicole Grant. The one thing they have in common? The fact that their life savings had been depleted in a ponzi scheme that left them each a co-owner of a gorgeous mansion named Bella Flora.

For me, the book was featured a slow building plot that explored the lives of our three protagonists. This in-depth discover of our leading ladies was completely necessary in un...more
