This was more interesting as a peek at a 19th century gentleman farmer than for the actual information. The discussion of farm-dogs, for instance, quoted both King Lear, and An Elegy On The Death Of A Mad Dog, by Oliver Goldsmith, and made a passing reference to "the fides Achates, or parlor companions".
