Have you ever seen the movie "The Game" with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn? Well, this is like an erotic, BDSM version of that movie...sort of...

I haven't heard much about this book, probably because everyone couldn't seem to talk enough about K.T.'s Comfort Food...which was also a great read, but this one is FANTASTIC! Oh! I freaking loved this book! Now, you have to go in to this book knowing that it is not light and fluffy. It is on the dark side, but when you look at the story overall once y...more

This story ticked all the right boxes for me. The syle is classy, the story was for me a 'proper story' with a reason, an action and a conclusion and everything that takes place is in there for a reason,it has a purpose. I felt this was an intelligent read, and although the subject matter is not vanilla there is a 'quiet modesty' in the way the story is told.....that's not to say it's not explict, it is, but as I mentioned before it's a classy read!!

Without giving too much away this is the story...more

My thoughts go out to my GR friends who threw me into a cockpit with this read and wanted to know what I thought of it before they read it themselves.Mmmmhmmmm....ya'll know who you are. smiley, wink

Well for starters,I had a lot of mixed feelings on it.I had a very hard time rating it,so writing a review was a little difficult as well. So these are just my feelings and what I thought of the book.

Alrighty! It lost one star, cause for those of you who know me well, ya'll know I'm a terrible guesser on predict...more

Disclaimer: I am a fan girl when it comes to Kitty Thomas.

Guilty Pleasures is aptly named; it was a pure pleasure to read and my guilt comes from not reading it sooner.

Vivian is a bored wife, unable to have a satisfying relationship inside or outside of the bedroom with her husband Michael.

"She wasn’t even sure it was his fault anymore. She wasn’t sure it was anyone’s fault."

Vivian is sent on a journey of discovery not one of self discovery from the start because it was not her choice but ulti...more

The ending of this was a mindfuck! Seems like my instincts were right cause in the back of my mind some of the time I kept thinking… Vivian's husband Michael isn't as innocent as he let's on. There's something he's hiding. And sure enough to the truth eventually came to the light. What kinda twisted husband would do such a thing as this?? Basically send his wife to a sex slave sanctuary to get trained into being a sex slave!

Aside from the ending..I think this book was fairly good. It starts o...more

3.5 Stars for me.
I do love her writing style and intelligence in creating these dark and sometimes disturbing novels.
I enjoyed the story, but the content is not for everyone. Enforced slavery and all that, can be a tad upsetting you know?
It lost a star for being predictable at the end. It was a good read but not a great read for me.
Still I love Kitty Thomas and will continue to enjoy her books.

I have to say that I quite enjoy the way Kitty Thomas writes. Her imagination and writting process keep facinating me and I hope she keeps writting this way.
She takes so many risks in writting the books the way she does. Its not just the BDSM part or all the sex (and let me tell you, there is PLENTY sex). She writtes about Blackmail, Slavery, forced sex etc.
Her book Comfort Food was so distubingly amazing that I just had to read another one of her works.
I do think this book was a step below t...more

Why do I like Kitty Thomas's books? I don't know. Do I have a hidden dark side? I don't know.

I've been known to read and enjoy horror books that have killers mutilating bodies or doing other unpleasant activities. However, I don't plan on mutilating bodies anytime soon.

I've been known to read and enjoy time traveling books but I have yet to find my circle of stones and travel through time. Nor would I want to time travel because I'm sure I'd just screw it up the 2nd time around.

However, reading...more

I enjoy Kitty Thomas, and this was an interesting read. There is a twist at the end that I wasn't entirely shocked by. I felt the way this particular slave-selling operation was running was pretty glossy and unrealistic. The book in general wasn't quite as dark as I was expecting. It did, however, hold my attention and keep me reading to see how things would turn out. I would give it 3.5 stars.

This book was definitely interesting from the get-go. I loved the plot, I have never read anything like it before, unfortunately, I figured out what the end was going to be halfway through the book. But that didn't take away from my wanting to read it. usually with Kitty's books, I never know what's going to happen, her books are usually a shocker. this book didn't have its usual shock factor

A story of an unhappy housewife who makes bad choices. After realizing her marriage is not what she wants and repeatedly rebuffing her husbands advances he tries to help by getting her therapy. From this moment on the wife is coerced by others either by guilt or force with emotional blackmail into a lifestyle she at first rebels against. When Anton her first mistake tells her "You don't know what you want" she is doomed. I was repelled by the exercise of her training in this den of iniquity and t...more

Wow! This was quite a book.

From the beginning I thought Vivian was a horrible bitch. That pretty much stayed true throughout the book because of the way she treated her husband. Every moment with him was horrible. It seemed like he was trying and it didn't seem like he was a bad guy or anything. I really didn't get the way Vivian was acting. And it really wasn't his fault because she didn't know what she needed.

After all the other men came into the picture, it got even more complicated. And to...more

Another great fiction story by Kitty Thomas. Once again, the characters (with a few exceptions) were well-rounded and interesting, and the situations were (mostly) believable and titillating. But isn't fiction all about a little suspension of disbelief? Overall, I like spending time in Kitty Thomas's universe/s.

A personal note: I'm not entirely sure I like the edge that Thomas almost always gives her characters, that of guilt and suppression in their own submission. There is always that psychol...more

i really like Kitty Thomas' writing, and would recommend her books in a heartbeat to anyone interested in kinky novels. Her writing is technically very strong and she does a great job focusing on the psychological as well as the physical, and I always find that to be very refreshing. Her novels are always enjoyable because they delve into the realm of fantasy without apology, without the tiresome trend of trying to make kink lifestyles/practices "acceptable" -- this is something i notice in a lo...more

This review was originally posted at Zelda's Bookshelf.

In Guilty Pleasures, Kitty Thomas’ second novel, she has once again produced a wickedly arousing tale of nonconsensual submission that turned me on, satisfied me and left me wanting for more.

Trapped in an unsatisfying marriage, Vivian has not enjoyed sex or achieved an orgasm in years. The passion she and her husband had felt when newly married had been fleeting and long since been replaced with disgust and regret. When her husband sends her...more

This is more like 3.75*

My highest regard to Ms. Thomas for writing this without even the attempt to add BDSM into the equation. "Guilty Pleasures" is a straight dub-con erotic romance, for here we even get a fitting variety of HEA for once, whose main theme is relinquishment of sexual control and striving for sensuality.

Like a few other readers I guessed the punchline early on, but didn't mind at all. I enjoyed reading about Vivian's slow journey towards letting herself go with her own sensualit...more

HOLY F@CK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Solid 4-4 1/2 Stars

Talk about a wrench tossed in in the end :) was not expecting that at ALL!!
Can not say to much more or will give it away LOL

Good read once you get past the first part of feeling like the book was right on the fine line between Raping the girl and her willing to do it!!!

This was an interesting read, I've never read anything like it and I definitely hope there aren't places like this in real life.(view spoiler)[
I found myself not finding the sex scenes very erotic - not because they aren't very well written or described but because I discovered through this book that I only like explicit erotic scenes when they are associated with romance or with the possibility of romance.
The ending was predictable about half way through and I was a little bit relieved when it

I was eagerly anticipating Ms. Thomas’ new book Guilty Pleasures. She is one of the best writers of erotica. I read the book in one night and was not disappointed. I was completely sucked into Vivian’s desperate housewife life. At first you don’t want to feel sorry for her as she is completely self absorbed and treats her husband horribly. All Michael wants is for his wife to be happy but she cannot see past her own inhibitions and selfishness to give him anything other than dead fish sex. But s...more

I find that I'm having a hard time expressing what to say about Guilty Pleasures. It would be easy to pass judgment or to scoff at the content and plot. It would be easy to cling to cliches and call the story sick and twisted. It would be natural to feel outraged at the absurdity of situation the protagonist finds herself tangled in. And I believe most would feel completely repulsed by idea of considering rape anything but a violation, blurred lines be dam...more

I believe this is my favorite so far in Kitty's books,

Less violence more manipulation from the captors come due to the women who is taken due to her own fault. She visits a sex therapist at her husbands request and is uncomfortable from the start with this Doctor. He sends here to a message therapast who more or less sexually rapes her by permission and blackmail and instead of reporting him she keeps coming back twice a week for a new appointment, she is placing her self in the devils grasp, s...more

Wow!!! Ended up staying up 'til almost 3 am to finish this one. Dark and dirty but oh-so-good!!! Vivi and her husband Michael are in a 7 year slump in their marriage. Someone else had compared this book to the film "The Game" with Sean Penn and Michael Douglas...sooo true, only this is like the hot sex version of it. Yes, it is really dirty and there is a ton of sex and some of it is a bit disturbing because our main character is so lost, but it wasn't just sex scenes for the sake of sex....ther...more

Previous comments and rating had led me to expect something good with a special touch.
What a disappointment !
The writing itself was actually pretty good, especially for erotica.
But that's about all this book has for itself.
The characters all seem fake and are anyway completely cliché to start with. The overall plot is stupid and predictible. The supposedly hot scenes are lukewarm at best. The BDSM stints are never coming close to arousing. The author seemed to have been so poorly convinced about...more

Another piece of fantasy / erotica from the author of Comfort Food. I loved the opening. Vivian is locked into an unhappy marriage where she hates sex with her husband and denies him at every opportunity. She dreams of a way out, but loves her husband, and knows she would never do anything to jeopardise their marriage; he is a wealthy man and Vivian wants for nothing. When her frustrated husband tells her to see a counsellor – and makes an appointment for her – she is angry, but goes along to ke...more

Not a bad story from Kitty Thomas and the ending is most surprising.

(view spoiler)[It started with Vivian's daily "night" routine with Michael, her husband. Then Michael sends her to a therapist to cure her "unhappiness". Who knew the massage therapist, Anton is a person that open up Vivian's sexual desires.

Anton slowly open up Vivian's heart to the dom/sub relationship and then brings her to The House to meet/train with guys up in the house. It is said to Vivian that she would be sold to the hi

Kitty Thomas writes dark literary erotica that explores power dynamics and sexuality. This work is fiction and meant for an adult audience. The author does not endorse or condone any of the behavior carried out by characters in her stories.

Her work is not “erotic romance”. Often on some level it is about love and/or obsession. Often the couple in some way ends up “together”, but the work should no...more
