This story ticked all the right boxes for me. The syle is classy, the story was for me a 'proper story' with a reason, an action and a conclusion and everything that takes place is in there for a reason,it has a purpose. I felt this was an intelligent read, and although the subject matter is not vanilla there is a 'quiet modesty' in the way the story is told.....that's not to say it's not explict, it is, but as I mentioned before it's a classy read!!

The ending of this was a mindfuck! Seems like my instincts were right cause in the back of my mind some of the time I kept thinking… Vivian's husband Michael isn't as innocent as he let's on. There's something he's hiding. And sure enough to the truth eventually came to the light. What kinda twisted husband would do such a thing as this?? 3.5 Stars for me.
I do love her writing style and intelligence in creating these dark and sometimes disturbing novels.
I enjoyed the story, but the content is not for everyone. Enforced slavery and all that, can be a tad upsetting you know?
It lost a star for being predictable at the end. It was a good read but not a great read for me.
Still I love Kitty Thomas and will continue to enjoy her books.

I have to say that I quite enjoy the way Kitty Thomas writes. Her imagination and writting process keep facinating me and I hope she keeps writting this way.
She takes so many risks in writting the books the way she does. Its not just the BDSM part or all the sex (and let me tell you, there is PLENTY sex). She writtes about Blackmail, Slavery, forced sex etc.
Her book Comfort Food was so distubingly amazing that I just had to read another one of her works.

Why do I like Kitty Thomas's books? I don't know. Do I have a hidden dark side? I don't know.

I've been known to read and enjoy horror books that have killers mutilating bodies or doing other unpleasant activities. However, I don't plan on mutilating bodies anytime soon.

I've been known to read and enjoy time traveling books but I have yet to find my circle of stones and travel through time. Nor would I want to time travel because I'm sure I'd just screw it up the 2nd time around.

I enjoy Kitty Thomas, and this was an interesting read. There is a twist at the end that I wasn't entirely shocked by. I felt the way this particular slave-selling operation was running was pretty glossy and unrealistic. The book in general wasn't quite as dark as I was expecting. It did, however, hold my attention and keep me reading to see how things would turn out. I would give it 3.5 stars.

This book was definitely interesting from the get-go. I loved the plot, I have never read anything like it before, unfortunately, I figured out what the end was going to be halfway through the book. But that didn't take away from my wanting to read it. usually with Kitty's books, I never know what's going to happen, her books are usually a shocker. this book didn't have its usual shock factor

From the beginning I thought Vivian was a horrible bitch. That pretty much stayed true throughout the book because of the way she treated her husband. Every moment with him was horrible. Another great fiction story by Kitty Thomas. Once again, the characters (with a few exceptions) were well-rounded and interesting, and the situations were (mostly) believable and titillating. But isn't fiction all about a little suspension of disbelief? Overall, I like spending time in Kitty Thomas's universe/s.

i really like Kitty Thomas' writing, and would recommend her books in a heartbeat to anyone interested in kinky novels. Her writing is technically very strong and she does a great job focusing on the psychological as well as the physical, and I always find that to be very refreshing. Trapped in an unsatisfying marriage, Vivian has not enjoyed sex or achieved an orgasm in years. The passion she and her husband had felt when newly married had been fleeting and long since been replaced with disgust and regret. When her husband sends her to a sex therapist out of frustration, Vivian must know in her heart that this is the end, but what she finds is only just another beginning.

Vivian’s journey to submission and slavery is an unconventional one. While her circumstances find her blackmailed, kidnapped and forced into submitting to Anton and his staff, she also discovers her latent desire to be dominated. Her discovery starts slow and is accompanied by a great deal of shame – both in dealing with disgust over her newfound desires as well as for her complicit role in her infidelity to her husband. Vivian’s internal struggle is an interesting one throughout. Most individuals discovering their submissive tendencies go through similar insecurities and upheavals, however, the fact that Vivian’s are accelerated and out of her control adds a definite element of arousing coercion to her adventure.

What I loved most about Guilty Pleasures is the element of force and nonconsent. Of course, as is clearly stated in Thomas’ disclaimer at the beginning of the book, it is a work of fiction and she does not endorse or condone any activities done to an individual without his or her consent. But, from the perspective of an active submissive who has fantasized about kidnapping, captivity and torture from a very young age, reading a book about just that is quite titillating. But Guilty Pleasures is less about evil people doing bad things than it is a tale of undeniable sexual allure. It is the equivalent of forcing someone to take a sip of the best hot chocolate in the world (oh, the torture) and then luring them in with a “you know you like hot chocolate… why don’t you follow me into my lair where you can have all the hot chocolate your heart desires?” Who could resist?

That being said, to truly appreciate Guilty Pleasures, I think that it is important that the reader suspend their moral outrage over the aspect of nonconsent and simply submit, as does Vivian, to their feelings — to submit to the hedonistic pleasure of sex and arousal that Vivian finds in the house, to submit to being out of control along with Vivian as she proceeds in her journey.

Aside from the aspects of nonconsent (more an element of titillating fantasy than horror) and the glamorized reprisal of Kitty’s “mansion of kink,” Kitty Thomas has done an especially good job at making Vivian’s adventures and the characters in them believable and realistic, even to an audience well-versed in kink. Vivian is lost and confused as one would expect a sheltered housewife to be under these extraordinary circumstances. Her reactions and emotions are very real. Her responses to captivity, pain, seduction, arousal… all are very believable. My favorite metaphor in the book is the repeated reference to Vivian’s banshee – her superego self – freaking out inside her head. At the risk of sounding schizophrenic, I also often refer to my own superego as if it’s an entity unto itself… one that, much like Vivian, I have my own struggles to calm and control.

In addition to this, Vivian’s husband comes off as just the right mixture of helpless, aloof and irritated over the situation with his estranged wife, and the treatment that Vivian and the other submissives in the house receive from the various dominants is also very believable. Specifically, Anton, Lindsay and Gabe are the perfect combination of heartless bastard and sensitive romantic that, at least for me, is the recipe for the perfect dominant.

All in all, I found Guilty Pleasures to be a great and titillating read. I enjoyed Vivian’s ride to submission and am hopeful that Kitty Thomas’ decides to keep the story alive so that we can learn more about Vivian’s life with her new Master.

Vivian is a lady who is stuck. She is at a bad place in her life and her marriage and she really has no clue about how to move out of the colorless, bland rut her life has become. She is frustrated, angry and unable to do anything about it. She feels and acts totally frigid. She is basically going through the motions of living and not being particularly gracious about it.

Her husband insists she goes to therapy sessions to try to recover her lost responsiveness to sex/pleasure and maybe find some happiness in life again. She grudgingly goes and the therapist recommends massage therapy. When she starts with the massage therapy she is horrified to find the masseuse forcing her into a sexual situation she doesn't want and then further horrified to find that even as she feels violated and abused, she is really getting aroused with the whole force scenario and all of the sudden her world explodes into color. The conflict of the story starts when Vivian is torn between the way the forced sex makes her feel good and the pain and angst caused because she is being coerced and blackmailed. Eventually she is kidnapped and taken to a place where she will be trained as a sexual slave and sold to a Master.

All the while Vivian is trying to assimilate the way the training makes her feel--happy, orgasmic and alive and reconcile those feelings with the shock, shame and fear of what is happening to her--being kidnapped and forced into sexual slavery. The disparity of the feelings engendered and Vivian's attempts to resolve her inner conflict and guilt is the driving force in this story of non-consensual abduction and sexual enslavement.

The reader goes through the story with Vivian, it is almost entirely in her pov. The emotions flow freely throughout the book. You are right there with Vivian as she learns about her own need to submit and begins to take joy in who she is as well as the guilt/shame she struggles with because she thinks she shouldn't want what she does. The outcome of the story is positive and IMO yes it is a HEA, not without some salt, but Vivian is definitely in a better, more hopeful (dare I say happy) place as she figures out what she needs and wants and finally begins to understand herself.

The sex is exotic and erotic. The scenes are well done and while parts may shock, there is nothing truly heinous or particularly brutal or vicious. No one is being held down in a dark alley in this book. Overall the story is one of passion, hope and discovery and you won't be sorry you took the time to check in on the dark side with Ms. Thomas' creation. (less)

My highest regard to Ms. Thomas for writing this without even the attempt to add BDSM into the equation. "Guilty Pleasures" is a straight dub-con erotic romance, for here we even get a fitting variety of HEA for once, whose main theme is relinquishment of sexual control and striving for sensuality.

I was eagerly anticipating Ms. Thomas’ new book Guilty Pleasures. She is one of the best writers of erotica. I read the book in one night and was not disappointed. I was completely sucked into Vivian’s desperate housewife life. At first you don’t want to feel sorry for her as she is completely self absorbed and treats her husband horribly. All Michael wants is for his wife to be happy but she cannot see past her own inhibitions and selfishness to give him anything other than dead fish sex. But soon Vivian is going to get caught up in a world of sexual submission she has only briefly fantasized about.

Frustrated with his wife’s frigidity, Michael sends Vivian to see a sex therapist. During their first meeting Dr. Lindsay Smith concludes that Vivian is too uptight and may benefit from the help of a massage therapist. She is then sent to a spa called Dome which is run by a sexy Russian named, Anton.

“Relax my dear. Dr. Smith was correct. You are quite a closed-budded flower. We will open you.” He made it sound so sexual and wrong.
“Are you going to rape me?” “No. I’m just going to make you come for me, Vivian. I’m going to make you purr my name.’”
*Swoon* (I would like to take the next massage appointment with Anton, please!!)

So begins Vivian’s sexual re-awakening at the capable hands of Anton. Through sexual blackmail, Vivian is coerced to make twice weekly visits to Anton and pay him for his “treatment”. After Michael learns of her expensive massage appointments he restricts access to her bank account and she is no longer able to pay Anton. This of course is not a problem because Anton is willing to accept sex as payment. If she doesn’t agree he’ll show Michael all the video of their massage sessions. Even though Vivian is unhappy in her marriage to Michael she doesn’t want to give up the security he can give her and deep down she loves him. So she agrees and falls deeper into Anton’s trap.

Eventually she is taken to Anton’s mansion where she has no way to escape. Vivian is introduced to Gabe and learns that he, Lindsay and Anton will be her trainers. She is told that she will be trained to be a sexual slave and sold to the highest bidder. The mansion is full of other women and more trainers. Vivian has her own room, there’s a cafeteria, gym, library, dungeons and a pool. It reminded me of the Playboy mansion where everyone was there to party and have fun. Kitty’s story telling ability is amazing because at times I forgot that Anton’s mansion wasn’t a fun house but a real business turning women into sexual slaves.

Vivian’s training is intense and the scenes are wild and oh so HOT! You will fall in love with all the trainers. I thought the HEA was fabulous. This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. Very intense BDSM but if you have a depraved mind like me, you’ll love it!

On the outside, Vivian Delaney lives a perfect life with a gorgeous husband who loves and wants her. But Vivian is not your typical desperate housewife choosing to entertain herself with her own devices while her husband works to support their lavish lifestyle. On the inside, Vivian feels like an empty shell, like a burden. She is withdrawn and inhibited. Unable to love herself, she doesn't understand what her husband finds appealing about her.

As arguments with her husband become more heated, he demands she meet with a sex therapist. Soon after and without her consent, Vivian is forced to submit to the commands of a very sexually charged man, Anton, who awakens her deep rooted desires. Frightened yet enticed, Vivian is thrust into a world she could never imagine, and suddenly discovers herself becoming a willing participant in a house run by a ring of men that train and sell women as sex slaves.

Circumspectly yet provocatively, Kitty Thomas once again draws in readers to not only explore raw human emotion but to also experience a descent into a illicit darkness that simulates the senses as much as it repels the mind. Thomas's character development of Vivian was fascinating, and it was maddening to realize that I found myself encouraging Vivian to release repressed passions and yearnings.

There was some predictability in the end. It was easy enough to guess who would buy Vivian to become her new Master, and I didn't care for the "grand scheme" planning of the husband and his friends. Still, I dare to say, I enjoyed the story as a dark fantasy novel and marveled over the writing style.

Word of caution, for those that do read D/s fiction, please note that Vivian was not trained to or given the option of using safe words. (less)

She hates her captor he main one but is addicted to the sex and humilation he gives her twice a week during the weekly messages which just turn to sex and whipping sessions.

When her husband goes out of town she is kidnapped. Taken to a large mansion with many other women who will me trained to be a slave, matched for a master and sold at a large price.

When her day comes to be sold she begs her captors to let her stay but she can provide nothing they cannot get for free since they take each girl in every way possible daily if they want to. And disipline them the same as they want.

She begs for them to call her rich husband to buy her and is refused.

She is sold.
A platinium collar is placed around her neck a slave, blindfolded, led to a car, I new who her buyer would be I guesses it 1/4 of the way thru the book, Or I had a idea but did not know for sure until he took her and I was right. Spoiled to much, but this is the most acceptable of Kitty's books to me, I prefer Cherise Sinclairs writing but this was right because of the husband / wife relationship and the characters who kidnapped and trained her then sold her. The treatment of her and the way she liked it, sick but she like it.

So I could read this with acceptance that the chacter / slave wanted it.

Wow!!! Ended up staying up 'til almost 3 am to finish this one. Dark and dirty but oh-so-good!!! Vivi and her husband Michael are in a 7 year slump in their marriage. Someone else had compared this book to the film "The Game" with Sean Penn and Michael Douglas...sooo true, only this is like the hot sex version of it. Yes, it is really dirty and there is a ton of sex and some of it is a bit disturbing because our main character is so lost, but it wasn't just sex scenes for the sake of sex....ther...more

Previous comments and rating had led me to expect something good with a special touch.
What a disappointment !
The writing itself was actually pretty good, especially for erotica.
But that's about all this book has for itself.
The characters all seem fake and are anyway completely cliché to start with. The overall plot is stupid and predictible. The supposedly hot scenes are lukewarm at best. The BDSM stints are never coming close to arousing. The author seemed to have been so poorly convinced about...more

Another piece of fantasy / erotica from the author of Comfort Food. I loved the opening.
