I decided I was going to take some time to percolate my ideas for this book, but it's still up in the air what I exactly think. Had some aspects I liked (i.e. time-travel), and others I didn't (i.e. the arc of the story).

Alright synopsis first: Gwen is a sixteen-year-old girl who lives in London (the book was written in German originally so I'm not sure why that setting was chosen). Normal enough, but she comes from a family who can time-travel. Thankfully the gene bypassed her and w More...

I knew Ruby Red wouldn't be quite my type of YA lit after reading first couple of pages of it. Even though the main character, Gwyneth, is 16 going on 17, she sounds about 12. Naturally, a quick decision-maker that I am, I made up my mind to drop it right after finishing chapter 1. After finishing chapter 1 I decided to drop it after chapter 2, and so it went...

When I found out about this book I knew I had to buy it. Simply because the cover is so very pretty! Plus, it is written by Kerstin Gier. You can't go wrong with that.

To be honest, I expected some kind of vampire novel regarding the cover. I am kinda glad that I was wrong. Although I wasn't very convinced that I would like the time travel part. But Kerstin Gier proved me wrong. The time travel is kinda logical, exciting and mysterious. Gwen is a very ni More...

Ruby Red,set in present day London, follows 16 year old Gwyneth Shepherd as she discovers that she has a gene that enables her to time travel into the past, sometimes multiple times per day. Her cousin Charlotte has been prepared for this eventuality her entire life, but it turns out Gwyneth has the gene instead. This,of course, creates more animosity between the already at-odds cousins, and even more problems for More...

This book was actually much better than I had expected it to be. The story itself was a little predictable and I sometimes found it a tiny bit too young for my taste (the heroine is 16, but feels younger compared to other heroines of her age I've read about), but it wasn't as girly as I had feared (and as the pink cover suggests) at all. Simply something cute and fun for in-between, with a little romance and time-travel thrown in. Finished it in one setting!

In Gwen’s family one of the girls is born with the ability to time travel in every generation. However that ability won’t manifest until after they turn sixteen. Everyone has assumed that Gwen’s cousin Charlotte will be the time traveler, because she was born on the right day. Charlotte has been prepared her whole life to start traveling, so when it turns out that Gwen is the time traveler in the family, everyone is shocked and suspicious. Gwen is not prepared for any of it and it will compl More...

Originally published in Germany, “Ruby Red” is already a best seller overseas. And it’s no surprise; “Ruby Red” is a gem of a book. It’s creative and different and fast-paced.

“Ruby Red” has elements of magic and adventure. There are also dark characters and scenes and death plays a role. But there’s a careful balance between all elements that helps the novel feel lighter than it otherwise could be.

Gwen is a multilayered character who readers More...

Wow. Just wow. The reason I picked up this book in the first place was because the cover is so different, and I am so glad I did! This is my first foray into the world of time travel, and I couldn't have picked a better novel to start with. Ruby Red is an enthralling story that will captivate you from the first page. I can definitely see why it's an international bestseller.

The pacing of the book was a bit slow at first, but the characters are so well developed, and the story was so More...

Charlot More...

I honestly didn't think much of this one at first. But then I found myself unable to put it down. Typical plot line for a YA novel; awkward girl falls into some mysterious alter-life, meets unbelievably hot guy, goes on unbelievable adventures all while the geeky BFF stays behind playing amateur sleuth on the internet trying to figure out the mystery of main character's life. Oddly enough, it works here. Gwen is a bumbling 16 year old, klutzy, naive, and very sweet. It's not her fault she was th More...

Kerstin Gier's Ruby Red is very engrossing take on time travel and how Gwyneth Shepherd, a destined time traveler gets pulled into the world she isn't prepared for. All of her sixteen years of life, Gwen has seen her cousin Charlotte being prepped for this very purpose.Gwyneth on the other hand has had a care free life involving family , friends and school. Just when the family is eagerly waiting for Charlotte to begin her time travelling, Gwyneth realizes that it isn't her cousin but herself wh More...

A delightful combination of time travel, romance, ghosts, complicated family relationships, mystery, and a secret society blend into a must read book. Sixteen-year-old Gwyneth Montrose lives with her widowed mother and two younger sibs in a Mayfair mansion filled with their extended family. So far so good.. engaging, entertaining, and well paced/written.

I've finished! This was a delightful read. Interesting premise, well set up conflicts, characters are well drawn, well paced writing that pulls you through the narrative. It does end somewhat abruptly but gives a nice teaser lead in to novel #2. This seems to be standard for this type of young adult novel in recent years. [the ending abruptly rather than winding up the story so it could - if needed -- stand alone. I More...

Finally! A time-travel novel that makes sense! The author of Ruby Red does a fantastic job creating the rules for time travel. The time-travelers in Ruby Red are the descendants of two family lines, twelve in total. Somewhere over the course of the ancestors’ lives, they began to prophesy the coming time-travelers, which is why Charlotte, instead of Gwyneth, is thought to carry the time-traveling gene.

On their own, the time-travelers have no control over their ability. They can travel More...

Molto bello.
Dopo l More...

C'è Lesli More...

This book is the best book I read last summer. It is one of those books that inspire people to write about time travel, if your into that sort of thing. Kersten Gier is brilliant!
Gwyneth Shepherd is a good heroin, but not great. She is witty, but with a touch of self doubt that makes her so Mary Sue, not that I'm prejudiced to that sort of thing. It is always a pleasure to read about a character that catches their own faults, and especially fun to see a character find faults that More...
