Personifying March first as a fierce and messy lion and then as a sneeze that heralds in the arrival of spring and a gentle lamb, this picture book ponders what happens to the lion after he leaves. It also follows the lamb's arrival with its accompanying allergies to all the spring buds and bugs. Some of the lines seem a bit cumbersome, and are all designed to set up the payoff on the last page. The illustrations consist of soft colors that reveal the personalities of both lion and lamb, both eq

In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb explores the popular March metaphor. The lion romps around, creating miserable weather everywhere he goes. His sneeze brings in the lamb, who brings delightful spring weather. Though the idea is clever, some of the rhymes were a bit forced. I didn't really love the illustrations either, though I've enjoyed Emily Arnold McCully's other work, namely Mirete on the High Wire. Best for ages 4 - 6, I'd probably skip this one for the K-5 library collection.

A cute picture book illustrating the saying March comes "In like a lion, out like a lamb." Lion - roar, rattle windows, scratches door, snow to mud, tromps across floor... Lamb section a little weak.

Actually, I thought the rhyming in this one was pretty well done, but I just felt like it was a little...eh. I would still recommend it, just wasn't to my own personal liking.

The transition from winter to spring in engaging verse and great illustrations.

lovely illustrations show the lion knocking on the door and creating havoc. Halfway through the story, the lion sneezes and in comes the lamb. The lion is not gone, though, just snoring until next March. A great way to introduce the saying portrayed in the title. I love the picture of the lion looking in through the window.

Welcome spring and the end of March with this book and hope along with all of us in Wisconsin that the snow will finally come to an end! Appropriate for ages 4-6.

Personifying March as both a lion and a lamb is a clever idea, but the rhymes in this book were clunky and lacked spark. When the lion sneezed and the lamb appeared in the spray, I thought it was gross (and not in a fun way).
