Aubry goes beyond just "getting it" as a means for understanding fiction and shows us a step-by-step challenging set of questions readers might use to broaden their comprehension tool kits, without which one might be continually doomed to the mundane class of readers known as "middlebrow."

I loved Aubry's book. In retrospect, I can see that "Reading as Therapy" broadened my cultural outlook. As I read, each successive chapter guided me closer to a far more sophisticated understanding of the work
