SPOILERS IF YOU HAVENT READ CRUEL LOVE. So i've been looking forward to this book since I finished the last one, but not anymore. I feel like I know how Reeds story ends already. She graduates and goes to george town because thats where Arianna tracks her down to... I feel like the only thing this book is going to tell me is if they get Billings rebuilt or not.
*This review does not spoil this book*
Alright, so I have given all of the books in the Private series five stars apart from the previous book (Ominous). I hated the sudden witchcraft element and felt like Kate Brian had lost the plot with her usually so intelligent explanations for all of the crazy things that happens in the life of the Billings girls. Luckily for me (and other readers who felt the same way) it abandons the 'wow, we're witches?' element and I was so happy that it got back on tra...more

Vengeance by Kate Brian
The last book in the Private series, ended as much of the readers would've expected. Once again Reed Brennan found herself at the center of deceit and death. It seems as though someone doesn't want her to rebuild the Billings house and the plot to stop her will only cause more pain for the young student.
Kate Brian does an effective job at setting the book up for a climatic ending! When a past Billings girl comes back... "If I wasn't so completely thrown by the presence of...more

When I first started reading this series in early April, I never expected it to end like this.
At first I thought it was just about a bunch of rich snobs who love to party. All they cared about was shoes and boyfriends, just like any other chick-lit YA novel.
Nooooo, I was so wrong. This was about everything from taking Vaca's in New York to murder. By the first word of Private, I was hooked. That's my story about the Private series and it pains me to see it go.

First of all, I'd like to say that the only reason this book gets 2 stars is because I liked the rest of the series.
Going into the book, I had no idea what to expect. The first novel, Private, was great and so were the other 7 books, but after that everything went downhill. Still, I decided to give the final book a chance. I was expecting a huge twist, and that's what I got. The thing is, it wasn't a good twist.

At the end of it all, I feel that the Private series deserves some credit. For the past year or so, they've provided me with my guilty pleasure YA soap-opera mash trashy chic lit fix. I need those. They've consistantly given me decent storylines, semi-likable characters and enough slightly cliche plot twists to keep me guessing and putting the next book on hold at the library. No, they've never been 'good', and I have overdosed at times and gotten altogether sick of them (and the insepid Reed),...more
SPOILER WARNING
I must agree with the general consensus on this one: Vengeance is an underwhelming, surprisingly inconclusive conclusion to the lengthy Private series. As Reed plans to rebuild Billings, she is once again stalked and yet another character returns from the dead. I happen to love characters who come back from the dead; that's not the problem here, and neither is the identity of said non-corpse (but why couldn't it be Thomas?). It's that the motives of Reed's antagonists are both mea...more

I loved this book so much!!!! I got hooked on this 14 book series about a year ago, and I couldn't wait for the final book to come out, Vengeance. This series by Kate Brian is very well written in my opinion. There is great voice and tone, as well as description! It is a mystery and has amazing cliffhangers! I literally could not put this book down. I just couldn't wait to finish it!!

OMG....wait. does this mean private's over??? No f'in way! This series has literally ruled my holidays... They were amazing, and they were the whole reason [or atleast most] that i finished 15 books in 4 days... have to say, that's a personal achievement....

This book was amazing, this series IS amazing. True that maybe it was getting tiring that Reed had cheated death more than I can count in this series because of billings curse, but it was amazing hands down. I would never, ever forget this book series. They even had a web-series that they took off the website. Noelle especially gave me a new way of looking at the world in a more confident way. I just sometimes wish the characters were real people. I'm very sad that this is the last book in the se...more

STALKING AND SCANDAL
Private goes out with a bang!
Reed is back at Easton for her junior year with just one goal - to rebuild billings under HER rules. Mr langes' death, and reeds' subsequent trust fund, will be more then enough to fund the project - it should be easy, right?
But nothing ever comes easy for reed brennen. When construction is suddenly halted days before the billings dorm is due to reopen, reeds paranoia hits an all time high. She knows someone is out to mess with her,...more

This book would get a zero i it was possible.I just don't understand how someone could change a plot that was all normal and regular to all witchy and paranormal. You might as well add zombies and vampires!Honestly, the only reason I read this was because I don't like to leave things unfinished.I used to be excited for the next book but ever since the whole magical stuff came into it I really didn't care. And even before than I was getting bored of the plot. It's the same thing!Usually some boy like...more
I can sum this book up into one word: Disappointing. I have been on the edge of my seat throughout every single book, with very high expectations of this one. Maybe I should have done a little research on here prior to reading. I just feel disappointed. I hated the ending. I mean, really? We need closure on so many things...! And what about the spinoff's ending? How does Private tie into the Privelege series? What about the Ariana sightings? *scratches head*. I just don't get it. I am hoping tha...more
Though this action-packed book could not be put down, it did drag on a bit. Kate Brian does a brilliant job of adding new surprises and crazy drama that most series' like this tend to overplay. She makes you fall in love with a bunch of rich snobs, which is more than I could do. This was the onclusion to the series you thought might never end. I enjoyed the surprising new develpements and was very surprised at the way things played out. All and all a very enjoyable read, though I wouldn't recome...more
Ok, i'll start by saying this book wasn't as intense as Ominous, for example, but whatever. I started to read the Private Novels in september and i never thought i'd like them so much. I read all the books, including the prequels, in only 2 months, and i can only be sad because it's over. About this particular book, well i felt a little disappointed that Kate Brian left out all the witchcraft stuff, i mean, they were all starting to get to know what they are, at least Reed was, and i was expecti...more

This book was surprisingly good, after the fiasco previous 4 books had been, this one turned out be a surprise. I am so relieved that Kate Brian managed to return to her usual form and deliver a good end to this series. There were many, MANY holes in the story but the suspense and drama made me nearly forget all of that.
SPOILERS AHEAD

I'm so sad that I finished the series. I wish there was another book! Kate Brian can totally
write about Reed's senior year. The end of Vengeance was so suprising!!! I dropped the book and my mouth was hanging open! It was such a big twist! Overall I loved every single book in the private series.
Kate Brian never let me down. From Reed, to noelle the charecters she created made me smile laugh and cry. I really really liked Josh and Sawyer. Kiran and Taylor were great. And all the other Billing G...more

FIVE YEARS I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS. I AM DONE THE SERIES!!!!!! IT'S OVER!!!!!!!!!! I AM REJOICING AS I WRITE THIS!!!!!!! Okay so...I started out by LOVING this series, I loved Reed, and Thomas, and even Noelle and Arianna. By the...eighth book I think...I started to actually HATE most of them...not Thomas, he was dead but EVERY OTHER CHARACTER in this series. Reed was SO whiny and just could not help herself. The other big problem I started was that the plot was PAPER THIN, there was ALWAYS...more
let me first say that i love this series. it was pretty much what got me into reading. the series however has gone on to long and has gotten away from the orignal topic.
the end was just not satisfying at all. and its just not fair that everything is always okay. i love reed but i guess i kind of wish she would have died or something would have happened to her- it would have been a nice twist. even some other major character like noelle dying would have been good for the plot. the series kind of...more

After Billings was knocked down, Reed felt like she lost a part of herself. After all, Billings was the place she met Noelle and her other friends, and finally felt like she fit in. Reed sets out to re-build Billings. Newly rich after learning she and Noelle are sisters (and after the murder of Noelle and her father) Reed puts all her energy into re-building the dorm. As a very loyal fan and long-time admirer of this series, all I can say is... "Well, that's disappointing."
It's the final novel, it's supposed to be explosive, and I get that the twist was supposed to make our jaw drop or something, but it all just felt very contrived to me. Like a plot that wasn't meant to happen that way from the start and was just changed later, so the added details and explanations were scrambled at the last minute. It was unimpressive, disconnected, and repetitive. I'm not...more

Finally got around to this one! I actually pre-ordered it, and then it took me a year to actually read it. I'm not sure why, exactly. I think I had been reading this series for SO LONG that I kind of wanted to wait and hold out for a while, so I could keep thinking about it and theorizing how it would end. Now with a new Kate Brian book coming out soonish I figured I should give this one a go.
In a way I feel like this series could have ended sooner. How many people want to kill Reed, honestly?!...more

My review contains some spoilers from previous Private books, but NOT from Vengeance, assuming you have read every other book before it.
The end is not near, it's here! After 14 installments and 2 prequels, the Private series has come to an end.
Going into Vengeance I thought that initially at least, there would be more talk about Mr. Lange's death and you know, more grief, and that it would take more time for the girls to go back to thinking about boyfriends and frenemies. Unfortunately, th...more
