I re- discovered my love for 'The Gingerbread Man' during my 2nd placement in Reception. We focussed on this book for two weeks and the benefits gained from this book was enormous.

This book has the potential to be used for a range of purposes and it can be sued cross/ curricularly; to talk about settings (KUW), to explore the feelings in the book and the reasons behind the characters actions (PSED), sequencing and retelling the story (CLL), making character masks to enable them to act out story

Gingerbread Man:
The freshly baked Gingerbread Man escapes from the oven and runs away from the old couple that made him. On his way he meets all sorts of creature like cow, car, goose etc but he keeps on saying to all of them “.you can’t catch me, I am a gingerbread man.” Then he meets the clever fox and outwits the gingerbread man. Poor gingerbread man, after escaping for the old couple and outrunning all the creatures, becomes fox’s dessert.
The story has a repetitive phrase which children will

It can be used for both numeracy and literacy - there are plenty of ideas, such as changing the ending of the story, creating new characters, becoming the g

This delightful tale of a little gingerbread man, dashing out, hot from the oven into the street and cleverly evading all his potential predators, but one! Is this a lesson to children never to trust the kindness of strangers? Suitable for children from nursery to year one or two.

Is this story saying that you can't escape your fate? It's a gingerbread man's fate to get eaten. Also, would the old couple have eaten him if he hadn't run away? I guess they would have.
