French for its location in the Crescent City; Silk for the fine material comprising the majority of the suggestive garments she designs; together, the name of Claire Laurent’s thriving mail-order lingerie company, half-owned by supermodel Jasmine. It’s not the sort of book that would ordinarily pique my interest.

Claire is the illegitimate child of a rogue a itinerant hustler. Her naive trusting mother descends mentally into a morass from which she doesn’t recover. Toss in the past-prime model, a...more

I am becoming a huge fan of Sandra brown. I have devoured three of her books in three days and she may just be my new favourite author.

The novel is named after the lingerie business that Claire Laurent owns and runs, which in turn is named after her aunts chocolate cake recipe. A TV evangelist is murdered and Claire is the prime suspect on Robert cassidys list
The setting in this book is beautiful. I love the descriptions of the french quarter. Brown does a beautiful job in describing the life, p...more

I won this book on Goodreads First Reads.

3.5 stars (if only Goodreads allowed half stars, one day, please!)

I must admit, usually I don't read romance novels, because I find them repetitive and boring. But this would have been good if it was just a straight forward crime novel. I enjoyed that element of it, the suspense and finding out all the little details about the characters. It was fun, and honestly quite enthralling.

The romance aspect of it was still probably about 50% of the novel so there...more

In spite of some flaws, I enjoyed this early work of Sandra Brown. The characters were well formed and felt real. The plot led me on a merry chase - I don't mind saying that I thought I had the mystery figured out very early, and maintained my conviction throughout, only to have a clever switcheroo at the end.

On the down side, some of the plot points were less than believable. For example, why is the assistant DA involved in a murder investigation? Usually their time to shine is after the indict...more

French Silk by Sandra Brown
Claire grew up poor and removed from her mothers house. She now with a friend runs a lingerie shop in New Orleans and does
even better with a mail order catalog. There is a stumbling block-the minister, Jackson Wilde who thinks her work is porn and tries to get her shut down.
When he is found dead from his wife, who had spent the previous night with the stepson going over their music, she is accused of his murder as her business name is on the minister's hit list of plac...more

This was the very first book by Sandra Brown that I ever read. It is by far my favorite. From the beginning I was caught up in the story and with every chapter I was surprised.

It's the first book of this genre that I actually had not figured out "whodunit" by the end. Although I was sure I knew who was guilty by the end of the first chapter, I changed my mind with every chapter thereafter until at the very end...I was shocked.

I have read it several times and I always remember my first read and...more

I first discovered Sandra Brown through her romance books but this romantic thriller / mystery was one I hadn't previously read so I was pleased to discover it at a local second hand shop.

I enjoyed the twists and turns that the story took. Some i guessed others I didn't. My only quibble was that the heroine seemed to tell a lot of lies and although people caught up in serious criminal matters possibly do tell less than the truth to protect themselves or people that they care about, I still found...more

This book is insane good!!! This was my first Sandra Brown book. I don't remember the exact date i finished reading it but i know it was within a day or two of finding it in a box in my parents garage. Once i finished it i was at the library every few days to see if i could find any more Sandra Brown books. This book remains one of my favorites, Sandra Brown introduced me to a genre of books i never even knew existed! Sandra Brown has a genre that's all her own!Once you've read this book, other...more

Pure cheese. An Assistant District Attorney (for some unknown reason) is the only homicide detective in New Orleans. It seems there are no real detectives in New Orleans so he is trying to find the killer of a TV evangelist. His main and only suspect is a very successful entrepreneur (supposedly), but she doesn’t act like it. She’s a weak southern flake. It could be the narration that made her sound more like Scarlett O’Hara than a well respected business woman. Of course (again for some unknown...more

Sandra Brown is one of my all-time favorite authors. If her name is on a book, I know I'm going to like it. (This was one of her earlier books; hence, the sappy sounding sex scenes). However I still liked it because of her suspense, and not being able to figure out who's done it until the end of the book. Plus, I love the fact that she writes quite a bit about New Orleans, The French Quarter, and Louisiana.

Ms. Brown is a very versatile author who never fails to deliver whether writing romance, s...more

The story was quite good, it was very suspenseful from the beginning on. No one could have seen who the murderer was and a lot of the evidence was misleading the reader. The characters were also very likeable, except for the hero and the heroine. I couldn't stand either, or maybe that's too strong to say, but I definitely didn't like them and they did quite some nerve-wracking things. Claire, the heroine, was way too stubborn for my liking. Even when she was about to head to jail she didn't want...more

Hampir sama dg The Alibi. Seorang penegak hukum yg jatuh cinta pada wanita yg dicurigai sebagai si pembunuh and akhirnya terjadi benturan kepentingan.

Jasmine-nya nyebelin bangeeeeeeeeeettt!! Pengin nabok wajahnya yg digambarkan cantik jelita it. Kira2 siapa ya artis Amrik kulit hitam yg wajahnya cuantiiiiik and bikin tiap orang terpesonah?
*masih mikir and belum nemu yg sesuai dg deskripsi si Jasmine*

Claire-nya jg ngejengkelin! Bo'ong dan bo'ong terus! Capek deeeeeeeehh!!!

I liked this book but it seemed a bit over-the-top with so many aspects. It has a beautiful, sexy, successful suspect, with a secret past. She has a southern belle, mentally unstable mother, a best friend with secrets of her own and a handsome district attorney who is falling in love with her. Add to this the evil, murdered evangelist with the young token wife and under-appreciated son and the suspect list continues to grow. This book would be a good summer/beach read.

Sandra Brown can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. This was one of her earlier ones and I did have a few problems with the plot. Would an Assistant DA really spend time socially with a suspect, kiss her and then ask her to admit to murder? Hum.

That said it was still a page-turner and I mostly didn't guess how it was going to turn out. I certainly didn't guess the identity of the real culprit, which is usual for me.

Not one of her best but still well worth reading and certainly worthy of four st...more

Ms. Brown did it again. Though this one was written in the beginning of the nineties, it didn't "sound" old-school at all (despite the ADA wearing suspenders ;)). A wonderful mix of suspense, drama, and romance, with a few story-lines intertwined to create an intricate and complex plot rife with twists and turns to keep the reader at the edge of her/his seat and guessing.

Well-paced, wonderful characterization with lovely multi-dimensional and flawed protagonists, mysteries and secrets galore, a...more

This is Sandra Brown, whom I love...he can do no wrong, with that said I don't think this book was that awesome. Maybe it was because I didn't really like Cassidy as much as I liked her other male leads. I was also infuriated with Claire most of the time but their attraction was believable. The mystery got a little predictable at some point but the ending was rather unexpected. Still it was a good book and I don't regret reading it.

I had just finished Huntress Moon, which I really liked, when I read this. This was disappointing. It was like soap opera pace of chinese/korean tv shows where even if you miss a few episodes, you didnt miss anything. The ending was rushed compared to the rest of the book. It was unbelievable. I finished the book cos I bought it on Amazon. If it was free, I would have abandoned reading this book.

This book reminded me a little of one of Brown's other books, but was still different enough that it was unique. Given that this is my what? My 8th book by her (I think), that isn't bad especially since; although some elements of the ending I considered as possibilities, I could not predict what would happen beforehand. Perhaps more a 3.5 star then a true 4. Not my favorite book by the author, but quite enjoyable.

I heartily recommend this book for readers who enjoy mysteries based on red herrings rather than actual clues, twists based on shock value rather than character consistency, and totally irrational and often idiotic behaviour in the main characters. Bonus elements include constant head-hopping, a load of melodrama about sin, and multiple uses of the word "moxie," which I thought had died out decades before this book was written.

"Arousal curled around his sex like tendrils of mist off a bayou, taunting and teasing and, to his greater frustration, causing quite a reaction." Ick. The last time that I take a patron's book recommendation? Will I make it through?

UPDATE! I did it! I made it through! The patron convinced me that I wouldn't see the twists and turns coming and guess the killer and she was right. At least about the killer part. My last Sandra Brown, though, I'd say.

This was my first Sandra Brown book to read and I absolutely LOVED it. I loved the characters because she made them seem true to life. The ending was a pleasant surprise and the best part of the book in my opinion. I love a book that I don't figure out "whodunit" in the beginning or middle. Yes, the ending was not predictable!!

I usually like Sandra Brown's work. This book had a decent story, but it seemed to go off on tangents. She tried to portray the main character as a woman of many faces, but it came across as poor planning of the character. I guess it is an okay book. But it didn't live up to some of her other books like Envy.

Another interesting romantic-suspense story emerges from New Orleans. In this Sandra Brown novel, a televangelist is murdered. Brown adds several well described characters, wild sex and enough clues through off a blood hound. Eventually, the killer is caught and hopefully if you are lucky, you've guessed who it was.

A good beach read/who-done-it/romance. Perfect for a vacation and some light reading. Set in New Orleans, it revolves around the murder of a well-known televangelist who has been attacking businesses of questionable "morality," including the protaganist, Claire Laurent's lingerie business French Silk.

I always enjoy Sandra Brown however this isn't one of her best. The relationships used in the book were weak. It was a quick easy read with lots of twists and a surprise ending. Several issues in this book bothered me mostly because they were against of my own moral beliefs.

I loved the mood the book set by way of the environment. I had to google Orleans French quarter to get the picture in my mind. But once I did - I enjoyed. There was not much to the story and felt Sandra brown dragged it out too much but enjoyed it - left me wanting to try GUMBO

Kebohongan..kebohongan..dan terus kebohongan. Itulah yg selalu diakui heroine disini..sampai kasian samaa heronya..suspend Sandra Brown yg ini benar-benar bgus plot dan alurnya mantap..apalgi pas flash back ke masa lalu..dan juga pelaku pembunuhan yg benar-benar gak terduga.

>> the first thing i thought when i started reading the book was :
when does this book take place?! sounds so oldfashioned! since when is a silk pajama considered "racy lingerie" ? Even if written in the '80s - lingerie catalogues were not looked upon as porn!

Otherwise - really interesting read, with some not very sexy sex scenes (i guess i like them to either be more graphic, or not described at all > "she sank onto his sex" just sounds weird to me:) )
A very good mystery that keeps on...more

This was my first Sandra Brown. I love mysteries and this one didn't disappoint. At one point or another I was convinced that everybody had done it. The ending surprised me a little and definately didn't disappoint. I'll be looking for more Sandra Brown.

Some SERIOUS TRASH here! If you need to escape to the Island of steamy sex fiction (i.e: if you need a book to which you won't have to give an ounce of thought), read Sandra Brown. I went through this phase for many years and have read most of her books.
