An Affair to Remember: The Remarkable Love Story of Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy
It was one of the greatest romances of our time. They were both Hollywood giants in their own right, yet it was the nine hit films Katherine Hepburn made with Spencer Tracy that, in the eyes of the American public, defined them as Hollywood's most celebrated romantic team. On-screen, the headstrong Tracy had met his match and she put him in his place. Off-screen, despite t...more

If you have seen some of Hepburn's work and want to learn more about her life behind the scenes, check out this book. Hepburn was an incredible woman and her relationship with Tracy is fascinating. The two of them interacted with the greatest stars of the time. The book is filled with a million anecdotes that you can use to drive your friends and family crazy. Like Hemingway goading Tracy, "Can't you just have a drink or two? Do you have to go till you're insensible?" A big theme ...more
Twenty-seven years, that's how long the love affair of Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy lasted. The first book I ever read on these two remarkable people (Tracy and Hepburn) left me amazed by what they had accomplished in their film careers and introduced me to the beauty of their relationship with each other.
This book, by Christopher Anderson, helped me understand how "one of the greatest romances of our time" endured. Spencer had been married to the same woman for ove...more

There has always been a lot of interest in Connecticut about Katharine Hepburn who was born in Hartford and retired along the Connecticut shore. That was probably why our book group librarian picked this book about Hepburn and the love of her life, the talented Spencer Tracy. This biography tells about their parents and childhoods as well as their years as actors. Katharine Hepburn was a very independent woman, unusual for that time. The married Spencer Tracy was a very popular movie star, b...more
my favorite genre in books are new and old classic, fantasy and Biographies.. and I read almost only bios about old movie stars and this one was about the Amazing Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy and their remarkable love affair that lasted 26 years.. I didn't want to stop reading for a second it was by far one of the best books I have ever read.
You get to read about both of their childhoods and then the bigger half of the book is about their life together and they certainly were extraordinar...more

Words can not express the emotion I felt reading this book. I could not stop crying at the end. I have always admired Katharine Hepburn and even more so now. "She was merely the latest in a long line of tough, morally courageous women who made sacrifices for the far weaker men they loved...He needed her and she needed him to need her."
Absolutely beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful!
This book was a fascinating look at the 27 year love affair between Spencer Tracy and Kathryn Hepburn. It dispells a lot of myths about their affair and is a very moving story of two very difficult people and their struggle to remain true to themselves while trying not to hurt anyone else. They made fascinating choices for the times in which they lived.
This book was well done and really gave a background on both Hepburns and Tracy's lives - but Spencer Tracy was a dog and Katherine Hepburn must have had her own issues to tolerate his garbage for so many years!
I love Katherine Hepburn, but this was a little slow for me. My favorite Hepburn quote: "If you want to sacrifice the admiration of many men for the criticism of one, go ahead, get married."
This was a far more detailed biography of Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy than I had previously read and I thoroughly enjoyed it especially since I have enjoyed all their old movies.
A bit sappy and fawning, but still a fascinating look at one of Hollywood's most famous couples. And man, Spencer Tracey had issues, yo.
I liked this a lot. I have a new appreciation for Spencer Tracy.
Learned so much about my own relationship from this book.
Just another silly step in my full on Katherine Hepburn obsession.
A beautiful and honest look at the relationship of these two talented people.
This one was a slow start but picked up once it got into the relationship between Tracy and Hepburn. It was a dream shatterer for me though. I always thought they had this ideal relationship. Boy, was I wrong! They were as normal as everybody else. Lots of Hollywood gossip in this book too!
Great love story of Hepburn and Tracy. Obvious that three people (Hepburn, Tracy, Mrs. Tracy) were trying not to hurt one another while accepting the fact that Tracy and Hepburn were true soulmates.
"There was something exceptionally sweet about it. Though they were extremely sophisticated people, he was like a little boy with her and she was like a little girl with him" -George Cukor in the book.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit I read this -- the way I'm embarrassed when someone catches me looking at People magazine. Gossipy fun, though. (And yes, a pleasurable read.)
A beautiful book about the relationship between Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. I learned a lot about them I didn't know and it really shows how devoted they were to each other.
Lots of facts and anecdotes, but I still have no idea why a skinny prude WASP and a violent Catholic drunk hooked up to form the most fascinating couple in film history.
Amazing, lovely, in-depth biography of both Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, and their films - and personal lives - together.
Blech. Clip job from Christopher Andersen who is not the most insightful biographer to begin with. Save your money.
Total clip job. There are better Tracy-Hepburn books out there.

“The single most important thing anyone needs to know about me," Kate hepburn said, "is that I am totally, completely the product of two damn fascinating individuals who happened to be my parents. I've had a pretty remarkable life, but compared to my mother and father, I'm dull.”
